The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 272: The night begins - I
Once again dressed in red, I found myself staring at the mirror again.
This time my lips had been painted the exact shade of the dress and my eyes were outlined with kohl. My cheeks had some artificial colouring on them making them look more plump than usual.
"You look so beautiful," Dorothy whispered, "I think I should make a low bun. It complements the jewelry well."
Would it be bad if I said I felt like I was going to be sacrificed? Because somehow I felt like I was getting dolled up only to die.
It was then I paid attention to her words. With a light frown I turned to look at her and narrowed my eyes, "what jewellery?"
At the moment I was not wearing any and the jewellery was the last thing on my mind. Not to mention I had not taken out any of the chests.
She gulped and her eyes dropped from the mirror where they had been looking at mine and focused on my hair. "The king is going to give you some. I do not know if it is an heirloom, but the vampires that serve the king were talking about it and I heard."
All I heard were vampires.
"Dorothy," I addressed, my voice cold, "Never be around them."
Her face turned to worry, "I.. I didn’t.."
"No," I cut her off, "do not even think about being around them or even try to overhear what they are talking about."
They were dangerous and there was no doubt on second thought about it.
"I was just walking by.." she whispered her explanation. By the look on her face, it was obvious that she realised what she had done. "I know."
She should.
The fear about the blood sucking creatures only grew and somehow it only managed to tone down when I was near Tristan because there were other feelings, completely opposite to love, surfacing.
"When is he coming?"
Dorothy gulped. "In some time. The king but come here just in time for your arrival in the ceremony."
"With me?" I repeated, alarmed by the fact. "he is going to enter the ceremony with me?"
No consort, mistress, concubine, no matter how beautiful or intelligent, entered any ceremony with The King. It was only the Queen who had owned that claim and unless she passed it on to someone, no one received it.
She nodded. "I overheard it."
Overheard, there was that word again.
I huffed. I had other things to focus on. "Just tell me when do I have to leave?"
"Well," her eyes went to the window in the corner of the room, "when the sun goes down."
When the sun goes down.. I did not have much time. It was already the evening and I had no idea where the day went.
"Is my hair done?" I asked her without taking my eyes off the window. It would be moments before the sun was completely gone and I was yet to get my plan together.
"I am about to place it in a bun. Why?"
I waved her hand away and got up from the seat. "You do it before he comes." I nodded. "Stay here. I will be back in no time."
"But where are you going?" She took a hurried step behind me. "I have to do your hair and we have to select the shoes!"
Shoes for the last thing on my mind. With the length of the sound no one could see what colour I was wearing or if I was wearing shoes to begin with.
"Stay there."
Dorothy halted, sensing the unspoken command.
"I am just going to the room where my dresses are kept." I told her, trying to ease my nerves and taking a cover in case someone was hearing.
Without waiting for her to answer, I moved out of the main dressing room and into the place where dresses were hung. There was another room in there that was for storage of the heavy chests and that was where I had shifted the small bottle to.
Making sure that no one was speaking from the door, I opened the heavy wooden lid and took the small bottle from the side before closing it shut.
I huffed. That almost took all my strength.
Staring at the small bottle in my hand, now I was left with one thing which was to plan the entire thing.
Only way I could make sure that the contents in the bottle were used and were consumed by the vampires was by doing so myself and for that I had to get into the kitchen.
I could not trust anyone for this.
Anna was the headmaid meaning if I gave it to another person it would be difficult for them to empty the contents of the bottle into something. Given that I was somewhat the queen named by them unofficially, Anna would not hold the power to question me.
I nodded to myself and reached under the skirts to hide It underneath the plain skirt that gave it more volume.
It would be another problem to take it out but that was something that came later.
Letting out a shuddering breath, I closed my eyes.
Why should I feel so..
I passed my heart and patted it. There was this feeling that was telling me something that was going to happen. But why was it there?
I was going to do something bad and I acknowledged that. But that bad was going to help someone and that was my defence against it.
Girls and boys like Rula would never have the chance to escape if I did not help them today. It was the perfect time when everyone was gathered together and no one would be suspecting anything.
"Princess?"
My eyes snapped open and I looked at the door but did not find Dorothy there. She was heeding to my command did not look inside to find out what I was doing.
"What is it?"
"The king is waiting for you."
My eyes closed against me for the opening and I looked up. ’Please,’ I prayed, ’please help me.’
I was not going to ask them to help me if I was doing something right because I knew I was not. Shaking my head and ensuring where the small bottle was, I made my way outside. It was time.
