Chapter 273: The night begins - II

I walked back to the dressing room where Dorothy was already standing. I could tell by her face that Tristan had already entered my room which is why I did not delay meeting him anymore.

I turned to his direction and bowed my head, "Good evening."

He sighed softly and moved closer to me. "Do not talk to me like that." His fingers traced my jaw, "all but you, should not talk to me like that."

Unconsciously, I leaned more into his touch and nodded. Even though I was well aware of what I was doing it was hard to pull away from him. Something constantly attracted me towards him and I constantly blamed it on the bond that I have been made aware of.

"I was told you were going to bring something for me." I whispered, knowing that his Vampire ears could hear them well. I partly spoke and broke the moment because it was too much to be in.

"I did." He nodded and touched my elbow before guiding me towards the mirror and making me sit in the seat in front of it.

Nokul, who once again did not look at my face or even above my feet, handed him the wooden box, a similar one to what I had presented Marilyn with.

The moment he opened it and brought out the necklace my eyes opened wide.

It was a huge, humongous actually, necklace of Ruby and white diamonds. It was big enough that it would hide most of my cleavage that I was going with this dress.

This was one of the most beautiful necklaces that I had ever seen and definitely surpassed my mother’s collection of jewellery.

However, there was no denying that I did not deserve this especially with what I was about to do and that guilt weight heavily on my chest. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"Tristan.."

"Hush," silenced me gently and brought forward the necklace before placing cold jewellery on my neck making me shiver. "Aunt and the council agreed on your coronation when you will be ready to be the queen and accept the new reality. Until then I cannot give you the Crown but in lieu of it,"

He kissed my shoulder, making my breath hitch.

"I give you the necklace of the queen, my queen." He kissed my temple softly. "My Genevieve."

My eyes burned and I was unable to stop the tears that were forming in my eyes. I breathed so heavily to control those cries and blinked my eyes repeatedly. "I can’t.." my hands to reach the buckle of the necklace only to be stopped and held by his own.

"It would be great if you wore them." Tristan took my hands and placed them on my lap before retracing his arms back to his side.

I gulped down the guilt which was extremely difficult to swallow but I had no other option.

"If you say so," I agreed. He told me to do it so if I betrayed him he could have the blame on him.

"Come," he stepped back and waited for me to stand up. "I can introduce you to a few family members so that you know a few people out of the many that are going to join us."

He was going to introduce me to the family. I was not going to assume that it was a normal hardworking family or from one with an aristocratic background.

It was going to be a family sent for the vampires and I was going to be someone with warm blood pumping in her veins.

What does it feel like I was being paraded around like a scapegoat?

I nodded and surprisingly with an excited smile Tristan led me out of the room.

My hand was placed on his elbow and like the true king and queen of the palace we walked in the halls with our heads held high with people bowing down in front of us.

The small bottle that I carried in my skirts seems so heavy that I felt like it would drop and make a sound which would attract a for you want towards it and somehow it would all be found before—

"Genevieve, you are thinking again." Tristan led us to the stairs as he spoke, "why do you think of something else when you are with me?"

"And you do not?" That was out of curiosity.

"No, I do not." He answered and looked straight ahead. "It is difficult to spare time and be with you, which is why I utilise every bit of it."

"You spare time for me?" I narrowed my eyes on him. "I did not know of my importance in your life until now."

Tristan chuckled as he glanced at me before looking ahead again. "I keep myself away from you, Genevieve."

"Why?"

Suddenly, with a gust of wind and blur, I found myself with my back against the wall and Tristan right in front of me.

A silent gasp escaped me and stared at his astonishment. "Wh-what?"

Instead of expecting to see Tristan’s easy going and relaxed expression, I saw him staring at me with his impassive eyes and that scared me.

"Because I yearn to be in your presence and it’s difficult to be about." His thumb touched my lower lip and he sucked in a long breath. "Because every time I am with you I don’t want to hold and I don’t want to hurt you.."

"But I need to give you time and that means I need to be away."

My eyes lowered but his fingers Saturday below my channel and pulled my face up so that my eyes met his.

"Don’t lower those eyes, not when I have finally had the chance of looking at them."

I was going to break apart. My heart felt like it was going to shatter into a thousand pieces and there was nothing I could do to stop it.

"Let us go, Tristan." I told him and get my voice as firm and unwavering as I could before I slipped out of his whole and walked down the stairs alone.
