THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 111: One Shouldn’t Underestimate The Enemy
"I’m sure by now they are already looking for the best lawyer they could find to bail her out," Stacy said, lifting the corners of her lip in a mocking smirk.
"Bail?" sneered Kathleen, "who will grant her bail without my approval?"
"She had better cherish the few days she has to spend in the beautiful cell at the police station because by the time she goes to jail, she would wish to be dead than spend a minute more there."
"I’ve spoken to my good friend the judge and he has promised that the hearing will begin in a week’s time," Director Wyatt announced.
"I’m more interested in this part," beamed Cheryl.
After she returned from her trip, nothing interesting had come up and she was really getting bored. Although this could be hardly considered as a case by her standards, it was better than being idle all day.
"I think they might want to approach you to help out," Director Robin Wyatt hinted
"If it was before, yes, but not after the whooping amount they had to cough out after the mall incident, they already know that Janice and I are friends." Cheryl had already ruled out that possibility.
"What if they offer you an amount you cannot resist, won’t you suspend our friendship for a moment then resume after the case?" Kathleen’s playful smile was a sly invitation for Cheryl to join the fun.
And sure enough, the next second ,Cheryl cocked her head to the side and squinted her eyes, her face serious like someone who was truly in a deep thought.
"It depends on how much they are willing to pay. A little more money will go a long way to offset some of my wedding expenses."
"After all if I work for you, you will only treat me to a meal or two," her head bobbed up and down, satisfied with her answer.
Kathleen’s amused smile showed she was in on the joke. "Aren’t you shameless? Joining hands with the enemy to go against your own friend and so-called sister -in-law."
With that, she flung one of the throw pillows at Cheryl who deliberately did not dodge, but allowed herself to be hit with the pillow.
"Ouch," her exaggerated scream echoed through the room. "Your crimes are gradually increasing. I will soon charge you for assault and violent tendencies," Cheryl warned in a deadpan voice, pointing a warning finger at Kathleen.
Stacy sighed and shook her head at the two girls who were obviously not taking the matter at hand serious.
"Can you girls stop joking around? We are talking about something serious here and you feel this is the best time for your jokes?"
"Mom," called out Cheryl which earned her an approving smile from Stacy, the previous dissatisfaction completely forgotten after hearing how Cheryl addressed her.
"There is nothing serious about this case. If it didn’t involve Janice here, I wouldn’t even glance at it. I don’t take cases that are not challenging enough."
"So what are you feeling like? A superhero or something?" mocked Kathleen.
"I don’t mind being referred to as your superhero, afterall I’m about to rescue a damsel in distress. And may I also remind you that not everyone can catch the fancy of Cheryl Moore nor afford her services," Cheryl boasted as she squared her shoulders and adjusted her blouse with a smug look.
"Here they go again," wailed Stacy as she pressed a palm on her head. "I give up on you two."
Director Wyatt’s eyes crinkled at the corners and a wide grin spread across his face as he found the girl’s interactions very funny.
He was pleased with the way they got along. There was no negative energy around them like one would see among other ladies who were soon going to be related by marriage. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"No matter how simple the case is, one shouldn’t underestimate the opponent," Director Wyatt suddenly said. It was his way of lending a helping hand to his wife who could not get the girls to stop joking.
"Who do you think they will hire as their lawyer?" Stacy was glad they were back to the issue. Although she knew she didn’t need to fret given that Cheryl was the one that would handle Kathleen’s case, but there was nothing wrong with knowing who she would be up against.
She believes having a proper knowledge of your enemy will expose his strengths and weaknesses so that one knows where to focus.
"From what I gathered, though I still need to confirm, the legal advisor to the Beazel Group is Mr Raymond Taylor. He is also a very good lawyer with outstanding records in his profession."
"Hon, do you think they might use him?" Stacy asked.
"He probably won’t be the one standing in court against me." Cheryl was the one that answered.
"Why do you think they will not use him?" Director Wyatt was taken aback. That’s one of the best lawyers they can come up with.
"Although he had not been appearinga in court, which perhaps might be because he was specially hired by the Beazell Group. His advice over the years is part of what has moved the Beazell group to where it is."
"I admit that he is good. The reason why I said it might not be him is because he will not take up the case," Cheryl explained.
"You are getting us more confused," even Kathleen was not left out in the web of confusion.
"What do you mean? Can you be more explicit?"
Cheryl had a conflicted expression on her face before she said, "It is something I would rather not talk about for now, that’s if you don’t mind," and quickly added, "I promise that when the time is right, I will make everything clear."
Despite almost dying of curiosity, they couldn’t probe further, since she didn’t want to talk about it. They were all matured and considerate enough to respect her privacy and not force her against her will.
