Chapter 112: Drop The Charges

Mrs Carr’s voice who came to inform them that dinner was served was a welcome distraction to diffuse the somewhat awkward moment and the children’s cheerful voices as they returned back to the living room completely dispelled whatever tension that was still lingering.

"Let’s all head to the dining table, I’m sure no one would want to eat cold food." Stacy rose to her feet and headed to the dinning where the children were already seated.

At Hudson Corporations, in the president’s office, Johnson was giving a report to his boss. After the report he was about to take his leave when they heard a commotion at the door.

Before Johnson could step out to check what it was, the door burst open to reveal two ladies who were struggling with the door handle.

Shawn’s eyes flashed dangerously at the two ladies who had unceremoniously fallen into his office. One was his secretary and the other was Linda Beazell.

"What’s the meaning of this?" he barked, his voice was cold and with the ability to freeze the warmest hearts.

"I’m very sorry to force my way in but she wouldn’t let me in to see you," Linda hurriedly explained.

Shawn glowered at his secretary who was shivering in fright.

As Rita, his secretary waited for her to pass his judgement, a vivid memory flashed before her eyes; the last time something like this had happened, she had been given a stern warning not to allow a repeat of it.

At the thought of the fate awaiting her, her nervousness was like a swarm of bees, buzzing uncontrollably in the pit of her stomach.

After what appeared like eternity, Shawn commanded in a steely voice, "Get out!"

"Yes sir," she mumbled and disappeared in the twinkle of an eye.

"What do you want?" Shawn’s eyes were full of disgust as he glared at the person whom he never wanted to see.

"I- um, I..." Linda’s voice wavered, her voice tinged with a nervousness that betrayed her composure."

It was obvious she lacked the courage to say what it was she had come for and that was mainly because of the person involved.

"Have you eventually lost your oratory skills as a result of your viciousness," Shawn snapped impatiently.

"If you don’t know why you are here, get lost. I don’t have time to deal with conniving bitches."

Shawn’s words felt like a sharp knife cutting deep into Linda’s heart.

She blinked rapidly as she tried to ward off the tears that threatened to spill from her eyes.

Shawn continued with the document he was reading before Johnson came in to make his report, completely treating Linda as air.

Seeing that his boss had no intention of making things easy for Linda, Johnson decided to intervene.

"Miss, I would advise you to leave now, since you’re not in the best mind to communicate your mission. The boss is a busy man."

It wasn’t because he had any soft spot for the person that ruined the lovely marriage of his boss and in turn causing his boss endless pain, that he offered his advice but he also didn’t want her hanging around the office. As a matter of fact he regarded her as bad news.

’I can’t mess this up,’ Linda thought. ’Since I’m already here, I have no choice but to endure whatever humiliation that Shawn throws at me.

Who knows whether I will get a second chance to meet him again after today.

With this thought, she opened her mouth to utter the first word that came to her mind.

"I- I, need your help with something."

Shawn continued with his work as if he didn’t hear her.

"My mother has been arrested and is in police custody," continued Linda.

That succeeded in drawing Shawn’s attention as his hand which was about to sign on the document abruptly stopped. ’Mrs Beazell in police custody? What could have happened?’

His surprise was only for a few seconds as he resumed with his work the next minute .

Just when Linda thought Shawn had not heard her, his sarcastic voice sounded.

"Have you gotten so muddle headed that instead of looking for a lawyer, the first place you ran to is my office? For your information, defending criminals is not part of my business."

Once again, his comment was as spicy as the taste you would get when all the ingredients used in making ten portions of hotpot were used in a single portion.

She now had a perfect understanding of what the definition of insult truly meant, but she had no choice but to gobble everything down her throat, no matter how scalding it was.

"Why was she arrested in the first place?" Shawn asked out of curiosity.

"I just read it now on facebook that she was arrested for attempted murder," Johnson, who had not yet left the office, answered, his tone tinged with fury.

What a nerve for her to come and plead with his boss to help the woman who tried to kill his wife.

If he had known before now, that this was what she came here for today, he would have personally bundled her out of the office.

He passed the phone to Shawn and Shawn’s face darkened in an instant. All the previous nonchalant attitude he had been displaying was completely gone.

All of a sudden, Shawn’s rich laughter rang through the entire office, surprising both Linda and Johnson.

Linda, who had been observing him, shrank back and didn’t know whether to flee from the office or face whatever storm that was coming as there was a cruel undertone to Shawn’s laughter, a coldness that made the hairs on the back of Linda’s neck stand up.

Just when they were wondering what had come over him, the laughter stopped just as suddenly as it had started and Shawn stood from his seat, his vibe scary and ominous.

"You want me to help you talk to my wife to drop the charges against the person who tried to kill her in cold blood?"
