Chapter 113: You Can’t Burn The Bridge

Linda’s head drooped down, she couldn’t even lift her head to face Shawn. ’How did he know that was what I actually meant to ask?’ she wondered.

From across the room, she heard Shawn’s voice.

"Oh, so your family became so complacent because I did not do anything to you after your despicable action six years ago?"

"It’s been such a long time, Shawn and I thought you had forgiven me, I’m still very sorry for what I did back then. Is there nothing I can do to make you forgive me?"

"You have done enough to show me that you are indeed very sorry," Shawn nodded vigorously and his mouth curled in disgust at Linda’s failed attempt to sound sincere.

"I only let that go then because of the long years of friendship between my late father and your father."

"But since your mother dared to lay a hand on my wife, that friendship is forever terminated and I promise that I won’t hold back anymore."

Linda was startled and rushed forward but was immediately intercepted by Johnson before she could get close to Shawn.

All the anger Linda had been trying to suppress was conveyed in the glare she shot at Johnson.

However, she took a deep breath and forced herself to speak calmly.

"You can’t burn the bridge just like that Shawn, it took years for both families to get this far."

Linda’s comment instantly doubled Shawn’s irritation.

"What do you even take me for? A fool? A push over?" He chuckled darkly as if he had suddenly stumbled on a bad joke.

"Perhaps in your eyes I am nothing but a good Samaritan that no matter what you do, I will smile over it and treat your sores?"

With each question Shawn threw out, he took a step towards Linda, his face darkening with fury.

Linda’s gaze that was temporarily fixed on the floor as a result of her shame picked up the advancing finely polished Testoni leather shoes.

It immediately sent a danger signal to her heart which started beating in rhythm with Shawn’s steps as he got closer.

Feeling the large room getting smaller and smaller, and the air thinner and thinner, she could hardly get enough air to circulate her constricted heart.

She started to retreat backwards but what was the use? She was already caught in the web of Shawn’s fury.

Shawn sneered at the woman who was trying to escape. ’So you can harm others but can’t bear the consequences?’ 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

At the thought that they were not satisfied with almost driving Kathleen to her death six years ago and coming after her six years later, his anger spilled over.

He was already simmering with rage as he reached out and grabbed Linda’s chin in between his thumb and index finger.

With bloodshot eyes, he stared down at her, and only his firm control kept him from crushing every single tooth from her mouth.

A sharp flick of his fingers sent Linda’s head up and she was forced to stare into his eyes so she could see how much he loathed her very existence.

From his face, Linda could see anger, disgust, and the most profound and most painful among the emotions was his hatred for her."

And for the first time in her life, Linda realized something about Shawn Hudson. He had never cared for her and never will.

She had always known that he didn’t love her but she never imagined how intense Shawn loathed her until today. She was broken by this realization.

Her face was not the only part of her that went numb but her heart also went numb and she lost any strength she ever had to fight for just a day of his love.

Even the pain from the tight grip from Shawn’s fingers could not be compared to the pain she felt in her heart.

She couldn’t even move her jaw from the tight grip of Shawn’s fingers. A little more force and she will be suffering from face paralysis.

Just when she thought she was going to be crushed to death, Shawn suddenly shoved her away wiped his hand on a napkin, then threw it straight to the floor.

The force Shawn used was enough to make Linda fall miserably to the ground. From her posture on the floor, she was no different from a beggar.

Before she could even make up her mind to decide on what her feelings were, Shawn’s menacing voice cut through her thoughts.

"Give this message to your mother."

"I, Shawn David Hudson will personally supervise her incarceration in jail. She will live to regret the consequences of touching my woman."

"I will ensure that she lives a life worse than death."

Lindas eyes widened as she saw Shawn’s handsome face, which she had been obsessed with over the years, twist with a vicious snarl as he continued to dish out his punishments, each of his words laden with indignation.

"She will sleep and wake up everyday in terror, wishing for death, but she will never see it."

"And as for you, get lost and don’t ever appear before me again."

"Get rid of this trash," he commanded, his voice filled with impatience as he turned away, backing Linda.

"And inform security that anyone that allows her into this building henceforth is indirectly going against me."

Johnson quickly went into action as soon as the word left his Boss’s mouth.

Even before the boss gave the order, he had already planned on having a talk with the people at the gate.

Seeing the disgust on Johnson’s face as he approached her, Linda scrambled to her feet and stumbled out of the office, completely disheveled, a far cry from the once proud, conceited young mistress of the Beazell family.

After delivering the message to the head of security, Johnson returned back to the office for further instructions.

He met his boss scowling down at his phone as if it was owing him a debt that cannot be paid in six lifetimes.

He had been trying Kathleen since Linda left the office but she has refused to pick his calls or reply to any of the messages he had sent to her

"Which police station is that imbecile that dared to lay a hand on Kathleen?"

"From what I was able to gather, one of them died on the spot and the one that had survived has been in a coma since the accident and woke up recently."

"Get me every information about that case and I want to see the loser that dared take up the contract."

Johnson stepped out and in less than ten minutes he was back with the information his boss asked for.

Looking through the information that Johnson forwarded to his iPad, Shawn’s anger that was already stirred up after Kathleen refused to pick his call soared.

"Do you mean that good for nothing lowlife has been at Medstar hospital all these while?"

"How come I was never informed, and to think that I have been going there all these while. How dare Steffan hide this from me?"

Johnson’s scratched his head as his eyes followed his boss who has been pacing back and forth with an aggrieved expression. It appears the President is missing something here.

"Boss?" he called hesitantly.

"What do you want to say?"

"I don’t think Doctor Steffan knows Madam’s identity yet, so he might not have linked the incident to her."

Shawn suddenly stopped, and stared at Johnson.

The next minute he ordered, "Get the car ready immediately. We need to get to Medstar hospital now."

"Right away sir," he said and left the office.

The secretary saw them leave in a hurry and wondered what was happening today.

First it was Miss Beazell, then Johnson, now both of them.

She released a deep breath, and selfishly prayed, "As long as it makes them forget about the mistake I made earlier on, it’s all good."

By the time Shawn and his assistant exited the lift downstairs, the car was already packed in front of the building and the door already hanging open for Shawn to get in.

As usual, Medstar hospital was packed full with patients, especially as it was the weekend.

Some patients whose sicknesses were not an emergency would move their appointment to weekends if they couldn’t get off work on weekdays.

Shawn tried his best not to bump into anyone as he hurried to the floor that he had business with.

He was able to get to the floor but met a sordid resistance when he got to the door of a certain private ward.

Kathleen, who was busy enjoying some weekend family time at home, received an urgent call from the hospital.

She instantly rushed over after apologizing to her children and her parents.

She was appalled at the sight that met her eyes as soon as she stepped into Spider’s ward.

On the bed, a figure bent over Spider who was struggling fiercely and trying to release tha hand that clasped his throat. Both his legs were dangling in the air.
