THE FORGOTTEN HEIRESS-Chapter 114: He Deserves To Die!
Since Spider had not fully recovered, he was obviously no match against the strong man who spared no effort in strangling him to death.
On the opposite side of the man, facing the door was Dr Sullivan, who was also trying to pull up the assailant’s hands from Spider’s neck.
From where she was standing at the door, Kathleen could only see the man’s back, but she noticed that Dr Sullivan’s movement was a bit slow as if he was being careful and restrained in his attempt to get the man off Spider.
He didn’t exact the needed force one would have expected him to apply under such circumstances.
Seeing this scene, Kathleen rushed to the bed and pressed on a particular spot on the assailant’s neck.
He instantly went limp and gradually fell to the ground, his hand on Spider’s throat slackening in the process.
Paying no heed to the man, she stepped over him and went straight to check on Spider.
"Are you alright?" her purple eyes were full of concern as she moved his head from side to side.
"I’m fine now," Spider said as he took short quick breaths.
From the bedside table, Dr Sullivan poured Spider a glass of warm water which after drinking, colour gradually returned to his pale face.
"Fortunately, you arrived at the right time. If not, I don’t know what would have happened if you had appeared a minute later," Spider said in appreciation.
"It’s Ok," Kathleen said, relieved that nothing had happened to him.
She turned to Dr Sullivan, her brows drawn together in a frown. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"What happened Doctor? I thought everywhere was tightly secured and no one could break in?"
Dr Sullivan had an apologetic look on his face as he adjusted his gold rimmed glasses on his face.
"The thing is that, em..., he didn’t actually break in"
Kathleen was baffled at the way he was responding, "Is there something you are not telling me?"
Suddenly her eyes widened in disbelief as a
horrible thought flashed through her mind.
"Don’t tell me you have been bought over?" That would be really troublesome, considering the stress she would have to go through to get a safer place for spider.
But her worries were uncalled for as the next minute, Dr Sullivan’s denial burst forth.
"Far be it from me, goddess. How can you even have such scary thoughts about me, goddess?"
"I’m sorry, but your actions leave me no choice but to allow my mind to wander a little."
"I will never betray you, no matter what. Even if a stone is tied to my neck and I am thrown into the river, I will still stand on your side." His expression was serious as he solemnly declared his stand.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, Kathleen couldn’t help but laugh. "So why did you allow a total stranger into Spider’s ward?"
Kathleen’s dissatisfaction was perfectly conveyed from her tone.
"I thought you understood the complexity of this whole situation."
"I do, goddess but the person is not a total stranger, he said he only wanted to see him and considering his identity, I couldn’t say no."
"Even if the person is not a total stranger, we can’t just trust anybody considering the possible danger that might pose?"
"At a time like this, Mrs Beazell and those behind her are capable of anything and we don’t want to give them the opportunity to jeopardize all our efforts."
"That aside, we can’t put Spider’s life at risk."
Seeing how worried Kathleen was about him, despite knowing that he almost killed her, Spider felt warm and an inexplicable emotion flickered in his eyes as he stole glances at the most beautiful woman he had ever come across.
Even her anger added a special touch to her beauty, making her mysteriously irresistible.
"He is kind of special and I didn’t know how to refuse him. Moreover, I didn’t know he was going to get violent."
"Now you have seen what could happen when you trust the wrong person," scolded Kathleen impatiently.
Kathleen’s recalled something "Come to think of it, you’ve been going on and on about this man’s identity. What special identity does he have that would make you do something this crazy?"
If not that she was confident about Dr Sullivan’s character during the few months they’ve been together she would have long doubted his sincerity.
"Let me even see who he is anyway."
She glanced over at the man that was starting to stir awake. He had fallen with his back facing up so Kathleen couldn’t see his appearance, but the more she looked, the more she felt that there was something strangely familiar about the man’s figure.
Before Kathleen could turn him over to see his face, the man completely turned over which elicited a scream from Kathleen.
"You?" Kathleen screamed, nearly jumping out of her skin.
"Why are you here?" Shawn frowned, massaging the back of his neck which still felt so painful.
As if she did not hear him, Kathleen asked, the surprise still etched on her face. "What are you doing here?"
Spider was also curious about the identity of the man that tried to kill him. He stretched his neck which was already showing some bruise marks to stare at the man.
From Kathleen’s reaction he could roughly guess that they knew each other.
Shawn gradually rose to his feet, and flicked his suit to remove the wrinkles, his tall perfect frame, imposing and awe inspiring when he stood to his full height.
His expression was dark as he glared at Spider who was also staring at him.
When their eyes met, Spider unconsciously shrunk from the animosity in the man’s glare to the extent that he was already one with the wall.
If not for the wall being solid, he would have melted into it long ago.
The icy glare from the man’s blue eyes was as deep as the ocean, bottomless and unfathomable which at the same time sent chills down his spin.
He initially thought that he was hardened and unbreakable but Kathleen and this strange man made him understand that he was still at the kindergarten level. They were way beyond his horizon.
Shawn adjusted the lapels of his suit, as he mouthed, "I will definitely get back to you," before returning his gaze back to Kathleen.
When confronted with Kathleen whom he had not seen for almost a week, most of his anger dissipated, but he still needed to know how he suddenly fell to the ground.
"What happened to me and why was I the one suddenly on the floor?"
Shawn was sure Kathleen was the one that knocked him out. She was the only person in the whole of Baltimore who has the nerve to do something like that to him and go scot free.
He knew Dr Sullivan couldn’t do it without considering the consequences.
’What do you think happened?" retorted Kathleen. "You were stopped from committing murder in broad daylight, Mr President."
"I bet you wouldn’t be saying all these if he had succeeded in killing you back then," sneered Shawn.
Spider quirked an eyebrow at Dr Sullivan, who signaled him to be patient.
Maybe he was going to find out the relationship between these two today.
It had come to him as a surprise when President Hudson had barged into his office and demanded to see the criminal in the special ward.
Of course he refused initially but when President Hudson threatened to withdraw his funds from the hospital, he reluctantly agreed, but not until he extracted a promise from President Hudson not to harm the man.
Who would have expected that as soon as President Hudson got to Spider’s ward, he would go straight for his throat, nearly strangling him to death.
Luckily he didn’t let him visit Spider alone in order to give him smooth passage, if not, he didn’t know what explanation he would have given to Dr Janice.
From their arguments so far, he had picked up one or two clues and could safely say that President Hudson knew that Spider was the one who almost killed Dr Janice.
But how did he connect the incident to Dr Janice? Her name was not revealed in the news neither was her picture added.
Or was he here to help the Beazell family. He remembered there was a rumor some time ago that the two families would be forming a marriage alliance, but he had not heard anything relating to that since then.
Dr Sullivan listened with interest as they argued back and forth completely oblivious of the hard puzzle they had given him to solve.
Shawn didn’t understand why Kathleen was blatantly arguing with him over someone who had tried to kill her and who he was sure was also a serial killer.
As a matter of fact, he refused to believe that Kathleen was his first victim.
"Why are you even keeping him alive?" he snapped. "He deserves to die!"
