Chapter 258: A Shy Grey

No, she is MY daughter, and I am a guy, damn it!

Nevertheless, they all had names now, and they looked presentable enough to walk around in normal human society without causing too much immediate panic...

Except for Grey Ivy and those noticeable fangs of hers that still peeked out whenever she smiled.

Sigh...

How do I even begin to explain all of this to the fairies who are still waiting for me back there?

No, more importantly, how am I supposed to explain any of this to Shishi-no-su and Verdant Spire when the time comes?

I wonder what Titania would think about suddenly having kids who are already this big and fully grown.

Maybe she would laugh and suggest playing hide and seek with them across the forest clearings?

Then move on to setting up playhouse games and little tea parties with whatever leaves and petals they could find scattered around.

With that image lingering in my mind, I started to climb out of the crater, carefully placing my hands and feet on the uneven edges.

Without me saying a single word, the kids fell into step right behind me, following silently.

Grey Ivy had already climbed onto my back and taken a piggyback ride as if it was the most natural right in the world, her arms looped loosely around my shoulders and her legs dangling against my sides.

Ugh, I can already see Roselyn and Tera locking eyes in a dangerous stare-off that could turn ugly fast.

Guys, please do not start fighting right now.

Things are already way too complicated without adding that on top.

"And Ivy, stop thrashing around like that!" I grumbled under my breath to the titan currently humming a cheerful little tune on my back, her body shifting with every happy wiggle she made.

The others showed more restraint and kept a respectful distance.

But Briar had naturally slipped her small hand into my sleeve and was holding on lightly, like a younger sister walking beside her older sibling without thinking twice about it.

The simple gesture looked incredibly cute from the corner of my eye.

I... had better make sure they stay well fed soon.

These guys could probably put away an entire dragon if they got hungry enough.

"So... yeah, that is pretty much the whole story."

I finished explaining in a brief but clear way about how Grey Ivy and all her siblings had come into existence, my voice carrying across the small gathering as I addressed the fairies directly.

"Uh, if you can find it in your hearts... please, forgive them for what happened before. I already asked them nicely to behave themselves from now on and be gentle."

We were still standing right at the mouth of the forest where the trees opened up, and more fairies gradually trooped in from between the trunks to join the growing crowd, their wings fluttering softly as they landed or hovered nearby.

They looked visibly shocked as the details sank in, eyes widening and mouths parting slightly when they heard that the titans were somehow connected to both me and Titania in that particular way.

Actually, why wouldn’t they react like that?

Not long ago we had all been trying our hardest to kill one another without holding back.

"Okay, I get that part," Roselyn sighed loudly, her shoulders dropping as she walked closer to me with her eyes half-closed in a tired, droopy expression. "But she really does not have to cling so much to yo--!!"

GASP!

"Grey, stop right there!" I immediately yelled the moment I noticed the sudden shift in the air around us, my voice cutting sharp through the tension.

And Grey stopped moving instantly, freezing in place on my back.

Roselyn’s face stayed pale, the color drained from her cheeks, but her whole body trembled just a little, small shivers running through her frame as she stood there.

Poor girl.

This would be the second time she had to witness something like this.

I hope she is alrigh--

"Hahaha!" Suddenly she burst out laughing instead, her shoulders shaking with genuine amusement as she threw her head back a bit. "I bet she truly is your kid after all! I was scared out of my wits for a second there!"

That was Roselyn for you, always finding a way to laugh even when a strange force had just hit her hard enough to make most people freeze up.

As she had tried earlier, so boldly reaching out to pull Grey Ivy off my back, Grey’s eyes had rolled slowly toward her with a gross, wet schlick sound, the movement unnatural and fluid.

Her face had gone completely unreadable right after, her features smoothing out into something blank and distant.

She had hit Roselyn with some kind of [Fear Aura] type of ability.

For a moment there, it had seemed like Grey actually wanted to take a real chomp out of her instead of just scaring her.

Which reminded me of something important.

These kids would probably have abilities of their own, right?

{Affirmative: they all possess series of abilities, and those powers are even more stable now that they have achieved their main goal.}

[Hm? What goal was that exactly?]

{Meeting "Papa."}

Oh, right.

The other titans remained basically indifferent to the fairies around them.

It felt like they were only tolerating their presence because I had begged them to behave earlier, their gazes drifting elsewhere or staying fixed on me.

But so far, only Briar and Grey could actually speak in clear words, so I gently asked them to step forward and introduce themselves to the gathered fairies.

Grey looked up at me first, her expression shifting into something that looked almost nervous, fingers twisting together lightly before she turned her gaze back toward the fairies who had gathered in a loose semicircle.

"Grey Ivy... is sorry for causing trouble..." she said softly, her voice quiet but steady as she bowed her head just a little, the words coming out with visible effort.

Awwwwwn, the way she stood there being all shy made something warm tug at me.

It was hard to picture her as the same being full of eyes who had stood on that raised platform not long ago, towering and terrifying.

But hey--
