Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Arrival of a Distinguished Guest

A few minutes later, Alice York was sitting in Wyatt Sterling’s car.

She thought Wyatt would ask her about the details of the complaint, but he didn’t. Instead, he asked, "Want something sweet?"

Alice was silent for a few seconds, then a smile touched her lips. "Sweets do help lift one’s mood, but I don’t really like them."

Wyatt turned his head, his gaze calm as he looked at her.

Alice kept the smile on her face. "Sorry, Third Uncle. I’ve spoiled your fun again."

Wyatt said nothing.

The atmosphere had grown tense enough that it would be impolite to say more. Alice tactfully shut her mouth and turned to look out the window.

Gradually, she realized they weren’t on the route back to Shorecrest.

Just then, her phone rang. Alice glanced down at the screen; it was a call from Mindy Vaughn.

She answered, and Mindy Vaughn’s calm voice came through the receiver. "We have an important guest. Come back for dinner tonight."

"An important guest?"

’Whenever an important guest came to the old mansion, I was never asked to join them at the table. Why are they specifically calling me back today?’

As she was wondering, she heard Mindy say, "This important guest is someone you know."

"Someone I know?"

Alice grew even more confused.

Mindy didn’t elaborate, only reminding her, "Dinner is at six. Your grandfather dislikes tardiness. Don’t make him unhappy. Get back as soon as you can."

"I know," Alice replied.

’No wonder we aren’t heading back to Shorecrest.’

After hanging up, Alice turned to ask, "Third Uncle, do you know who the important guest at the old mansion is today?"

Wyatt’s tone was flat. "I don’t."

"How could you not know?"

"Do I need a reason to not know?"

"..."

Alice choked on her words, her mouth opening and closing before she obediently shut it again.

When they were less than two hundred meters from the old mansion, Alice insisted on getting out. She didn’t want *those people* seeing her return in Wyatt’s car every time. If it happened too often, it would become impossible to explain.

Fortunately, Wyatt let her have her way this time. Before rolling up the window, he reminded her, "Go straight to the front hall when you get to the mansion. The guest wants to see you."

’The guest? It must be that important person. I’m getting more and more curious about who it is.’

Alice nodded. "I understand."

Once the car drove off, Alice slowly started walking along the road toward the old mansion.

After returning to the mansion, she followed Wyatt’s advice and went directly to the front hall. From a distance, she saw the butler standing outside the entrance. Beside him was a young man, who was bent over, teasing something. As Alice got closer, she saw clearly that the man was teasing Nathan Sterling’s kitten.

"Here, kitty, kitty. Come here."

The man was crouched over, holding out his hand and calling to the kitten. The kitten tiptoed forward on its hind legs, sniffing intently as if trying to identify his scent.

Before the kitten could finish its inspection, the man’s patience clearly ran out, and he abruptly grabbed its head.

Unsurprisingly, the cat bit his hand. In a fit of rage, he flung it away.

"Don’t!"

Alice wanted to rush forward and stop him, but it was too late. The kitten was thrown through the air, slammed against the steps, and let out a wretched cry—

"You little beast. How dare you bite me."

The butler was stunned. ’Young Young Master Hawthorne was actually bitten by this cat!’

"Young Young Master Hawthorne, your hand!" the butler said, stepping forward anxiously to check on him.

Finn Hawthorne waved him away. "Get lost."

The butler was shoved so hard he stumbled and nearly fell.

Finn strode forward to kick the kitten, but thankfully, Alice was fast enough to get there and block his brutal act. "Hey! What are you doing?!"

Finn looked up, his eyes sizing up Alice. "Who are you?"

"It’s none of your business who I am," Alice retorted, her anger flaring. "But you—why are you being so cruel to a kitten?"

"This little beast bit me. Am I not allowed to hit it?" Finn said, then looked down at his hand.

The cat looked to be only a few months old, but it had bitten down hard. His finger was bleeding.

Alice naturally noticed his finger was bleeding too. ’He can bandage it later.’ She turned to check on the kitten, only to find it lying on the ground, twitching uncontrollably.

Alarmed, Alice quickly knelt and cradled the kitten’s head. Its nose was covered in blood.

’It’s over. If Nathan finds out his kitten was thrown like this, he’ll...’

"Hey, do you have any conscience? I’m the one who got bitten, and you’re worried about that little beast?" Finn’s jaw tightened, his brow furrowed with vicious anger.

Alice looked up. "Stop calling it a ’little beast.’ And besides, didn’t you bring this on yourself? The kitten was just checking your scent; it wasn’t attacking you. You got impatient and grabbed it. Who else would it bite but you?"

Finn was so taken aback he was speechless for a moment.

The butler noticed blood dripping from Finn’s hand and paled. "Young Young Master Hawthorne, don’t move your hand! I’ll go get a doctor to treat your wound right away."

"Unbelievable," Finn seethed through clenched teeth.

Alice took the opportunity to pick up the kitten and walk away in another direction. Finn caught sight of her and immediately shouted, "You’re not allowed to leave."

Alice pretended not to hear and quickened her pace, but Finn called over to two bodyguards in the distance. "Stop her!"

Those two bodyguards had come with the Hawthornes and naturally answered to Finn, so they immediately stepped forward to block Alice’s path, preventing her from leaving.

Alice had clearly heard the butler calling him "Young Young Master Hawthorne" over and over. ’This person must have a powerful background. He has to be tonight’s important guest.’

Alice quickly softened her stance. She turned around and said, "The kitten is dying. I need to give it first aid. I was rude just now, and I will definitely apologize to you properly later."

Finn said, "Apologize to me now!"

Without hesitation, Alice said, "I’m sorry."

The apology came so unexpectedly. Finn had thought this woman would be a tough nut to crack... ’Heh. Even if she apologizes, I’m not letting this go.’

Finn lowered his hand, letting the blood drip freely, and ordered the two bodyguards, "Pull that little beast out of her arms and smash it to death."

Alice’s eyes flew wide. She tightened her arms around the kitten. "You dare!"

"What wouldn’t I dare? Heh. There’s nothing I wouldn’t dare to do." Finn said this with a smile, but a wild, vicious energy swirled in his eyes.

The bodyguards immediately complied. One restrained Alice while the other snatched the cat. Not only was there a huge difference in strength between a man and a woman, but she was also up against two professional bodyguards. The cat was snatched away in the blink of an eye.

"Don’t throw it!"

"I’m begging you."

Alice’s face was deathly pale. She turned to Finn, humbling herself completely. "Young... Young Master Hawthorne, I’m begging you, please be merciful."

Finn glanced at his own bleeding hand. "Not a chance."

As soon as he finished speaking, the bodyguard slammed the already dying kitten onto the ground with all his might.

Her hands restrained, Alice could only watch helplessly as the kitten was smashed onto the ground. It convulsed twice, then went still.

The bodyguard even knelt, picked the kitten up by its leg, and dropped it back on the ground when he confirmed it wasn’t breathing. He then dusted off his hands and stood up. "Young Master, the cat is dead."

"Little beast." A sinister smile twisted Finn’s lips.

The other bodyguard asked, "Young Master, what should we do with her?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Finn’s gaze returned to Alice.

At that moment, Alice seemed dazed, or more accurately, like her soul had left her body. She showed no reaction at all, her mind filled with the image of the kitten being brutally smashed to death before her eyes.
