Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 381: I Owe You My Life (1)
While Lennox agreed for Adrienne and his siblings to return to Chiangshi, he asked Adrienne if they could stay with the Zhao family until his work on Jinling was done. Adrienne easily agreed to her husband’s suggestion, as she also considered spending time with her mother. With her brother and Uncle Reese returning to their work, Adrienne wanted to reconnect with her mother.
Her grandparents had no qualms about her bringing Lennox’s siblings to temporarily live with them. Both elders thought it had been a while since their homes were graced with children. They believed it would bring joy and liveliness to their household. Adrienne was grateful for her grandparents’ willingness to accommodate Lennox’s siblings, knowing they would be in a loving and caring environment while she focused on her mother’s welfare.
Once they arrived at the Zhao estate, Scarlett seemed to win Adrienne’s grandparents over with his charming personality and helpful nature. She quickly became their little helper, always offering to lend a hand with household chores and bringing smiles to their faces.
On the other hand, Lennox’s youngest brother, Noah, brought a sense of innocence and wonder to the household with his endless curiosity and imaginative play. The presence of these children not only brought joy to Adrienne’s grandparents but also reminded them of the beauty and energy that come with having young ones around.
"Is it true that you and Lennox are in the process of adopting Noah?" Rosemary asked her daughter while Adrienne trimmed the leaves off a potted plant.
Adrienne looked up, a warm smile spreading across her face. "Yes, Mom," she replied. "We’ve been discussing it for a while now, and we’re excited to officially start the adoption process soon."
"You aren’t planning to have a child yet?"
Adrienne gently placed the trimmed leaves in a compost bin. "Not at the moment," she said thoughtfully. "Lennox and I feel that we’re not ready to take on the responsibility of raising a biological child just yet. Not when we’re busy focusing on our careers and personal goals."
"It must be hard for you not to be with him now."
Adrienne nodded a hint of sadness in her eyes. She initially thought she and Lennox would always be together once they married, but his issues with the Qin family forced them to reconsider their plans.
"It’s hard, but I can only support Lennox now. As his wife, I must prioritize his well-being and our relationship."
Rosemary nodded. "Marriage isn’t always 50-50. There will be times when one person needs more support than the other. It’s important to be there for each other and make sacrifices when necessary."
Adrienne knew her marriage with Lennox wouldn’t be perfect and smooth sailing, but she was determined to face any challenges that came their way. She knew Lennox would eventually return home once the critical stage of his work was done.
"Still, I’m glad you and your brother are doing well. I’m sorry I couldn’t help you during your difficult time, Addie. I recently met Mother Wang, and she told me a lot of things Camilla and your father did to you." Her mother paused, her voice filled with regret. "I wish I had known sooner so I could have been there for you."
Adrienne’s heart ached as she listened to her mother’s words, but she was already past the bitterness the Jiang family caused her. As for Mother Wang, she already forgave her a long time ago, but she didn’t expect the old woman would pay her mother a visit to apologize to her.
"Mom, it’s alright now. It’s over now. You should forgive yourself for not being there. What matters is that we’re together now, and I’m grateful for that."
Rosemary smiled. Despite her sadness over the Jiang family’s misfortune, she worried more about her daughter’s well-being. Adrienne refused to tell her the details of what happened, but hearing it from Mother Wang, who raised Adrienne like her own, broke Rosemary’s heart.
"Have you decided what to do now that you’ve recovered?" Adrienne asked, hoping to distract her mother from thinking about depressing things from the past.
"I’m helping your grandmother with the businesses under her name. She’s also wondering if it’s not too late to give you a dowry." Her mother responded.
Adrienne shook her head. Money surely made her life easier, but she knew that her worth and happiness were not dependent on material possessions, and Purple Cloud was doing well, giving her a steady stream of money.
"There’s no need for that, Mom. I have money to use, and Lennox ensures I’m not lacking anything I need. I also got the trust fund you set up for me. If you and Grandma insist that I should receive some, perhaps you can set it aside for my child to use in the future. Hunter should also get a share."
"Don’t worry about it, Addie. You and your brother will get your fair share of everything. However, if you don’t want to get your share and pass it on to your future child, that’s entirely up to you. Just know that we want to make sure you both are taken care of, now and in the future."
"I’m sure my brother has plans, so you should discuss them with him." Adrienne reminded her mother. "But in case he said I should receive all of it, tell him I decline."
She knew her brother’s personality by now. Hunter didn’t like to hold on to money or possessions for himself. He was always more concerned with the well-being and happiness of others, especially his family.
Adrienne had seen him give away his fair share countless times before. She knew that if he did decide to pass on his share to her, it would be because he genuinely believed it would benefit her and her future child.
However, she also understood that it was important for him to have a fund that he could use in an emergency. Of course, she and Lennox would help her, but Hunter was too proud to ask her, especially Lennox, for financial assistance. The money he earned from the military service was enough to cover his expenses, but it might not be enough once he started having a family.
"Alright. I’ll do that." Rosemary agreed. The Jiang family might have deprived her children, but the Zhao family would ensure they would never experience the same hardship.
