Chapter 23: Busted!

He kept his word. Not long after Ming Tao left with the lion cub, he came back. Mira felt a wave of happiness surge through her at the sight of the mighty cheetah.

"Stay on me and don’t let go." Ming Tao said. His voice was icy and firm but Mira did not mind. What mattered was that he came. She let a hand off the rock and clung onto him. Ming Tao meowed, like a cat would if someone grabbed its tail.

Mira almost laughed. "Sorry." She said.

"Get on."

Right. He did not like her yet.

She took her second arm off the rock and wrapped it around his chest before resting on his back. Ming Tao swam forward. It felt weird being on top of him when he was moving in the water, especially because of the baby bump but one thing Mira noticed was Ming Tao was not being rough with her. He was being careful and strangely gentle. In this river that seemed like it would swallow the two of them alive with the waves, Ming Tao funnily was the only calm part of it.

They got closer to the shore. Ming Tao leaped up and out of the water till his claws dug into the sand. Now he walked further away from the river then lowered his form.

"Get off." He worded. His belly touched the ground in this crouched position.

Mira rolled to the side, coughing. She could finally breathe. Her arms and legs were sore, her chest felt cold and every part of her being was plagued with fatigue. She just laid there staring into the sky, lazily catching her breath with both her arms stretched to the side.

[Rejuvenating host’s physical strength!] A pop up loading tab displayed before her till it reached a hundred.

[Rejuvenation completed! Host is now back to 100% health wise!]

Mira let out an exhale. She felt better alright, but the mental strain was still there. What an experience! She never wanted to do that again. In fact, she wanted to be away from water for her entire life.

[You do know that one of your husbands is a snake, right?]

Mira frowned. She would think about that another day, for now, she had her cub and a lion cub to worry about.

Wait. Where is the lion cub?

Mira sat up straight, wading her eyes around. A baby lion came running to her screaming.

Behind the cub was Hye Yang chasing after him. That witch! This was bye bye.

The cub sank into Mira’s chest and immediately bursted out crying. He cried so loudly it chased birds resting in trees nearby away and alerted Ming Tao.

"What are you doing to the cub?!" Ming Tao raged, staring at her defensively like he was ready to rip her apart. Hye Yang already cut up to them. This lady was in big trouble.

Mira raised her hands up to show Ming Tao that she wasn’t harming the cub but the cub was embracing her as he cried in her bosom.

"You should ask my sister." Mira spat. "She tried to kill him and me!"

Hye Yang froze. "What accusations, Mira, I would never harm a wild within the forest domain! I know you hate me Mira but if you did something bad, own it!"

Ming Tao looked swayed by Hye Yang’s words.

Of course he was swayed. He always was. Mira scoffed. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"Oh really? Then why is this lion cub I tried to kill around me and not you? Come on, call him to you, oh ye innocent one." Mira pushed. She would prove that she was innocent and that her sister was the real demon.

Hye Yang’s face changed from being offended of being accused to fear. Outright fear. The Mira she knew never stood up to her. That Mira always accepted the accusations yet right now, it seemed like she was not having it.

"You can’t, can you? Because you know that baby animals are not foolish enough to meet those who tried to harm them!" Mira raged. Each word that left her mouth was louder than the other.

Mira knew situation was complicated. There were no witnesses outside her and as far as Ming Tao knew, Mira Yang was a demon and this cub within her arms was too terrified to speak.

Mira patted his head softly. "Are you okay?" She asked in a low whisper. A sob was her response. This made her angry. She could condone anything but harming an innocent cub was wrong. So damn wrong.

Ming Tao shared glances with Hye Yang and Mira, confusion written all over his gaze. The cub seemed comfortable with the demon, he thought. "Hye Yang," Ming Tao called slowly, a deadly calm in his tone. "Did you try to annihilate a true born of the lion clan and a member of the tribe? Did you try to kill your own sister?"

Hye Yang looked like a ghost. Even from here, Mira could see her terror. "NO! WHY WOULD YOU BELIEVE THAT WENCH OVER ME?! I WOULD NEVER!"

"Then why won’t the cub go to you?" Ming Tao questioned. Doubt. It was seeping into his mind. He trusted Hye Yang. And right now, he really did not want that trust to break but the facts were not checking out.

A roar echoed in the environment. Lion King Jia Hao was approaching, racing in his beast form to them with two other pride members. The moment they arrived where Mira was, they shifted. Jia Hao met her first, clinging onto her body in an embrace as he sniffed and licked her all over.

Now this, this was love, Mira thought. It was disgusting having saliva all over her skin but this was animals way of caring. "What happened?" Jia Hao asked, his arms around his wife. He was naked but did not seem to care. All he cared about was her, his wife.

"I was attacked." Mira said.

[Warning: Lion King Jia Hao’s rage is spiking! Host should thread carefully.]

"By who?" Jia Hao growled. Mira did not say a word but her gaze traced to meet the path her sister stood. Jia Hao followed her gaze.

Hye Yang let out a suppressed breath. The air suddenly felt tense. She looked like a bunny who was afraid of being snacked on by hungry lions. "I... I.. I..."

"I thought you said you did not do it?" Ming Tao said first, interrupting her stammering. He had transformed back into his human form and his body was overpowering Hye Yang’s with height and muscles.

Hye Yang suddenly felt frail. From her body movement, it was obvious she wanted to shift.

"Try to shift and run and I will come after you. You may be stupid but foxes know they cannot outrun a cheetah." Ming Tao uttered.

Oh boy! Mira was loving this.
