Breeding System:My Five Beast Husbands Want Heirs-Chapter 22: My Saviour?
Mira pushed both their weight forward trying to go against the torrent motion while swimming with her legs. Her hands were wrapped around the floater and the cub was in front of her chest but behind the floater. The wave was easier to swim through now. Losing all her points seemed like the best decision she made because as long as they were safely tucked within the massive floater, they had better chances of not being washed away by waves and even if they do get washed away, they would float back up. That was guaranteed at least.
After getting out of this, Mira would do as Jia Hao said and stay in his room for days. Weeks even. She would retire into being lazy because damn! Who knew having a protective husband monitor your movements actually paid off? If she was home, she wouldn’t be in this mess.
But the cub would be dead. Mira swallowed. For what it was worth, she was happy she went gardening in her free time.
A wave toppled them over, flushing them further backwards dangerously.
"Hold on tight and don’t be scared." Mira managed to breathe as water entered her throat. "I’ve got you. We’re in this together." She reassured, clutching the cub tightly all through the nasty turbulence. When the wave washing had calmed and they were stably floating on the water, Mira noticed something dreadful. The floater got stuck in a broken tree branch which was laying in the river. One that had sharp edges.
No. No. No. No. Of all the times for the universe decided to hate her, did it have to be now?
"System, can the floater deflate?"
[You do know what a floater is, right host? And what punctures balloons better than sharp objects? And what is that thing you see that is piercing at its end?]
Really, Mira wished she could shut system up. Of all the times it had to be snarky, now was when it considered it appropriate.
Skrrrrpt!
Mira froze. Please be my fur outfit, please be my fur outfit. Please, please, please let it be that I am naked instead of what I assume that to be. Mira chorused in her head.
But it was indeed not her fur clothing.
The worst happened.
The broken branch punctured the floater and ripped it so badly the brutal contact resounded like an explosion. The floater was lessening quickly. Shit. Mira had no more system points to buy more nor did she have anything else to keep them afloat but her strength.
The cub shivered. "I can’t hold this puffy thing anymore. It is getting smaller."
"Hold me instead." Mira said softly. The cub gripped onto her body. Poor thing. He was scared for his life. Mira was too but she had to be the adult and do the adult thing, even though she was pregnant.
She never appreciated her earthly mother as much as she did now. If she ever got back, she would cook that woman a meal and book her an all expense paid trip even if it savages her paycheque.
The force became heavy, drastically washing both of them against the water rocks. Between swimming against the torrent and manoeuvring the water rocks and stones and carrying this weight, Mira thought she might pass out.
She cursed under her breath. In all her struggles, her sister was nowhere to be seen. Hye Yang truly wanted her dead.
At least, that was before she heard a growl. More like a meow. Mira’s eyes caught hold of a spotted figure wading closer to them.
Hye Yang?
The closer the animal got, she noticed it had no fox like features. No. Not Hye Yang.
Mira’s heart raced. It was a cheetah. Now, going down that waterfall seemed better than being eaten alive.
"Stay back you giant cat!" She yelled. "I have a baby with me and I will pounce on you if you dare come closer." That was a threat although it seemed more like a plea. "I warn you! There is nothing stronger than a mother protecting her young!"
"Shut up, filth. It’s Ming Tao." The cheetah said curtly. Oh. Oh, it was. That was his beast form. How could she miss that? And he was there to rescue her? Or kill her? She could not tell.
Mira shoved the cub at him when Ming Tao got closer. "Take him first! I can handle on my own."
Ming Tao’s eyes darkened, feeling the quivering baby in his arm. What was he doing? What was she doing? Mira NEVER cared about anybody but herself. She would have dived at the opportunity to be rescued even if meant the damnation of the rescuer but here she was picking the life of an outsider over hers. And Ming Tao was confused.
"What?!" He blurted out, his voice harsh.
"You cannot take both of us to shore at once and I am older. Save him then come back to save me." Mira panted.
Ming Tao did not understand. Since when was she reasonable? Mira was a self centered vixen.
"Go! Or we all die!" She yelled, pushing him to leave.
For the first time since he was bound to her after her cruelty chased him away, he did not want to leave her alone. He always wanted Mira dead but now. . . now he did not.
[Mighty cheetah Ming Tao is having complicated affection for host.
+10 system points!
Current points balance: 10!]
Now? He was having affection now? What about when she was not in a habitat that could kill her?! Mira tried to stay calm. "Ming Tao go! Save the cub and get out of the water before it harms us."
Worry cornered in his eyes as he pondered. "I’ll be back for you." He said, holding the cub by the neck in his mouth.
Ming Tao shot away like the wave was nothing. Mira sighed, gripping the rock harder. Ming Tao better keep his word. Thank universe for help!
