Chapter 910: A Thousand Year Dream (III)

--

Life continued as is for the Bug Empress and her family, but the surprises kept appearing.

Aside from this new, peaceful, and serene life of theirs, what truly made them incredibly surprised was definitely the visible growth of Cain.

Yes, Cain was growing up. He grew a few centimeters tall in a span of six months. It wasn’t noticeable at first, and it’s actually Pelle who discovered it on accident.

Initially, he was just playing with his brother when he noticed that Cain looked a little taller than before. Now, he knew Cain’s height by heart. How could he not when it’s practically one of their family’s biggest heartache? It’s one of the things that stalled in him because of the curse.

So, when he measured it again this time, he was left in disbelief. He couldn’t believe it at first, but after he used all the measuring tools available and saw the same result, the truth finally sank into him.

Cain was growing up. His precious little brother was no longer bothered by the curse.

Pelle nearly broke down in tears in front of Cain because of this, much to the little one’s confusion. He held himself together, though, and decided to entertain Cain until he was tired of it.

Only then did he break the news to his family, and together, they all collectively broke down in tears after realizing and confirming this. The Bug Empress was the most relieved of them all, obviously.

In hindsight, they should’ve all seen this coming. Their curse of the Supreme Will on their family had been lifted from them in this world, so it would only make sense for the same to be applied with Cain.

It’s probably the fact that it’s too good to be true that prevented them from anticipating this. They’d rather be surprised by the truth than be disappointed upon the realization that it wasn’t the same for Cain.

But yes, Cain was no longer cursed. He’s just an ordinary creature now. One that could finally live a normal life and grow up.

It’s strange how such a simple and mundane thing made them so emotional. But it’s Cain. He’s special to them. Anything that’s about him becomes their priority, and giving him a normal life was something that used to be so difficult, or even outright impossible, for them to do.

But it’s different now. They can all witness as the little one grows up normally, and it’s all they’d ever wanted, especially for the Bug Empress.

And so, just like this, years passed in this mundane yet blissful new life of theirs.

Anuman and the Bug Empress lived like ordinary citizens, happy and content to see their children grow up and prosper. They even made friends with their neighbors and grew to appreciate their company.

Pelle and Maricel eventually found their spouses. They married and started their own family.

The oldest, Pelle, met a rather fair, beautiful, but also firm woman who set him straight. He’s saying that it was love at first sight, and he actually had to work really hard to get her attention and love, but it was all worth it in the end.

After five years of knowing each other, they tied the knot, and Pelle lived with her in marital bliss, just like his parents do.

Pelle was reluctant to separate from his family, so instead of moving it, they built a new one near the fields and made that their new home. Pelle was really lucky that his parents approved of their relationship. Maybe it’s because the Bug Empress saw his younger self in his wife that made things easier.

As for Maricel, well, that’s a little more complicated.

Anuman was really strict in selecting her husband. Maricel was beauty, and if her suitors formed a line, they would extend far enough to start from their home all the way to the marketplace.

Sure, Maricel ultimately had the last say in the selection, but Anuman firmly stated that her man should be a provider and a gentleman; otherwise, he won’t approve.

It wasn’t that far from Maricel’s standards, and she surely wasn’t lacking options, so it’s only a matter of time until she makes her choice.

One thing that, for Maricel, was a deal breaker was the fact that her husband should also love Cain. To her, if Cain doesn’t approve of her choice, then it is what it is. Cain’s opinion matters to her more than her father’s does. But of course, she would never say that out loud.

Eventually, she made a choice, and she was confident that she made the right one.

Her family approved of her choice, and Cain even looked up to her husband, earning him extra cookie points. Cain liked the man so much that it made Pelle jealous because he thought his big brother’s throne was at risk of being usurped.

But like Pelle’s choice, Maricel was reluctant to part with her family. So, they built another home near the fields for a new home.

All while that was happening, the family marveled at the way Cain was growing so fast.

Obviously, his growth couldn’t be kept a secret anymore. Cain isn’t just getting taller; he’s becoming smarter and more mature too. Even he could tell that he was changing as the years passed by.

Of course, the little man was ecstatic about this. He thought that it was about damn time this happened. He had been looking forward to growing up for so long now that he had lost count on how many years it had been. Now that it’s happening, how can he not be excited?

Every month, it’s a ritual for the family to measure his height. Cain shot up like a weed, though. In a matter of five years, he went from being a midget into a teenager.

Of course, nobody dared to bring up Cain’s actual age. Even though he’s, supposedly, older than some planets, they didn’t count that since he never actually grew up or matured.

Right now, Cain would be somewhere between 11 and 13 years old, one that is taller than most boys at his age.

Additionally, he’s becoming more curious too. Evidently, it wasn’t just his body that was maturing; his mentality was in sync with his physical growth.

Cain was a curious child; he had a lot of questions to ask, and he was quite smart. Whenever he doesn’t understand something, he files it first and then asks his parents about it later when it’s not urgent anymore. He’s also learning social cues from them.

Actually, Cain also began attending school. It’s kind of necessary for him to be with his peers because of the unique situation of his family.

But even though he was growing up fast and was now starting to discover the bigger world before him, Cain remained as kind-hearted as ever. He was shedding some of his innocence, sure. But that’s to be expected as one grows up. What matters is that Cain was genuinely a good person, and he was being raised that way.

Although not everybody liked him, those people are grossly outnumbered by those that do.

It’s kind of hard to hold a grudge against someone who smiles every time and has been nothing but kind, generous, and genuinely friendly.

Hell, there were many older men who were already trying to make him their son-in-law. If it weren’t for the Bug Empress’ vigilance, Cain would probably be engaged by now.

Eventually, Pelle’s wife, Maricel, got pregnant. Soon, they welcome new additions to their family tree.

Once again, their lives had become more colorful with the addition of new children into the family.

The Bug Empress was among the happiest. Grandchildren! She always wanted some. Anuman too, obviously. And Cain? Oh, he fell in love with his niece and nephew at first sight. He’d often visit and entertain them whenever he can.

Again, despite this being such a mundane life for them, they find themselves incredibly fulfilled and satisfied with it.

Watching as days passed by without any conflicts, just warmth, peace, and serenity, turned out to be all they ever wanted.

The bug empress played with and spoiled her grandchildren every day. Cain continued attending school and growing up to be a spry young man whose kindness could melt even the most bitter heart.

There was no scheming, no plotting anybody’s demise, no armies that needed to be trained, no invasions to be afraid of and prepared for, and no hectic chase from a road that leads to a dead end.

Just peace and normality, everything that the Bug Empress ever wanted, which had become her twisted desire due to the cruelty and crassness of the Supreme Will.

And just like this, days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months, and months turned into years...

Time flowed ceaselessly in this blissfully mundane life of this family, and they continued to grow.

Cain became older, becoming a young gentleman, raised by values and qualities that Anuman drilled in him and approved of. The young man’s future was looking bright and stable, while their family was becoming larger and larger, much to the happiness and contentment of the Bug Empress...
