Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 380: Joining Huayi (2)
"So, you’re finally joining Huayi after months of unemployment?" Adrienne asked him.
Kristoff laughed and grinned at her. Adrienne could see why this man was popular with women. His smile was infectious, lighting up his face and making him instantly likable. It was clear that Kristoff’s charm would be an asset in his new job at Huayi.
"Hey, it was a much-waited vacation for me, Miss Jiang. I worked tirelessly for the past few years and never took an extended break. Gavin convinced me to take some off after Jiang Corporation went bankrupt. He said I should spend more time with my sister now that our parents are no longer with us. Plus, it allowed me to explore new hobbies and interests I never had time for."
"You’ll be a big help for Gavin. He’s been managing everything independently since Lennox went to Qin Motors, and having you around will take some of the weight off his shoulders. He’s been complaining a lot to Myrtle these days, and obviously, she had to relay it to me."
Kristoff nodded and rubbed his chin.
"I’m surprised that Lennox managed to find a wife like you, given how workaholic he was back then. Even Gavin found a woman he liked, something I have yet to have much luck with. Seeing my friends settle down and find happiness in their personal lives," Kristoff chuckled, his eyes filled with a hint of longing. "Maybe one day I’ll get lucky too. At least by joining Huayi, I can repay Lennox and Gavin for their gratitude."
"Who knows." Adrienne agreed. She couldn’t believe she’d be lucky to have Lennox in her lifetime. When she was reborn, being with someone was something she least expected.
"Len and Gavin aren’t hiring you for what you owe them. Both of them said you’re quite capable. I don’t need to prove anything to them, Mr. Fu. They genuinely believe in your abilities and want you to succeed. Just focus on doing your best and proving it to yourself."
Kristoff looked at her momentarily before his face broke into a wide smile.
"I can see why Lennox is head over heels for you."
Adrienne gave him a questioning look, but he didn’t say more. He simply continued to smile, grateful for her words of encouragement.
"I heard Alistair Han has been targeting Huayi for years now. Do you have an idea what he’s up to?" He suddenly asked. He looked at her as if he could sense that she had some insider information.
Kristoff would officially fulfill the role of the COO of Huayi during Lennox’s absence, and one of the things he found out was how deeply involved Adrienne Jiang was with the company. He had heard rumors about Alistair Han’s relentless targeting of Huayi, and now he was curious if she had any insights into his motives.
After all, Adrienne Jiang wasn’t only a big investor in Huayi; she was also listed as one of their private consultants. Kristoff wanted to understand why Gavin hired an eighteen-year-old Adrienne Jiang years ago and why she continued to hold such a prominent position within the company. He wondered if her connection to Alistair Han played a role in her position within Huayi or if there were other factors at play that he was unaware of.
Adrienne paused for a moment, considering her response. She only told Lennox about her past; truthfully, she wasn’t expecting him to believe her. Heck, if others heard what she’d told him, they might have thought she had lost her mind.
"Alistair Han is a cunning businessman with a history of aggressive tactics," she began. "While I don’t have concrete evidence of his current plans, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s trying to gain control over Huayi for personal gain or to weaken our position in the market," which was true.
Alistair tried to take over Huayi in her past life but never succeeded, but that didn’t mean he didn’t cause trouble for Gavin and Lennox back then. It must have been hard for Gavin to handle the company affairs on his own while Lennox was suffering from his injuries from the car accident.
"Huayi and the Han Corporation have been at odds for quite some time now. Their rivalry had intensified over the years, with both companies constantly trying to outdo each other in the market." Kristoff’s expression turned serious as he looked at Adrienne. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Forgive me for saying this, Miss Jiang. It has worsened because of you. I heard from Gavin that Alistair Han took a liking to you and wanted to marry you."
"But I chose Lennox instead." Adrienne knew what Kristoff was implying, but she wasn’t offended. "We can’t teach our hearts who to love, Mr. Fu. Alistair may have shown interest, but ultimately, it was my decision to be with Lennox. Besides, the rivalry between the companies existed long before I came into the picture. It’s not fair to place the blame solely on me."
"No, I’m not blaming you, Miss Jiang." Kristoff said in defense, "I’m just saying that Alistair Han’s aggressive attacks were fueled because you rejected him. A man like him must have not received much rejection in his life. Now, he’s targeting your husband for revenge."
"Tell me about it," Adrienne sighed. "Alistair Han couldn’t handle being turned down, and it’s unfortunate that his ego drove him to such extreme measures. But let’s not forget that he was the one who chose to act out destructively, and I shouldn’t be held responsible for his actions."
Kristoff nodded in agreement. "You’re right, Miss Jiang, but I’m sure Lennox and Gavin have a plan to handle him."
Adrienne smiled. Of course, they already had plans. Lennox had prepared several security measures to protect Huayi and Gavin during his absence, and it’s not like he wasn’t entirely uninvolved with the management of the company.
"I have faith in them, but we also can’t underestimate Alistair Han. He’s keeping a low profile these days because the authorities are after his tail, but he might still have some tricks up his sleeve. We need to stay prepared for any unexpected moves he might make. It’s important to have a backup plan in case things don’t go as smoothly as we hope."
