Chapter 445: Chapter 445: Always Be a Princess

After coming out of the morgue, Shane Warner’s face didn’t show much emotion. Seeing that Faye Xavier’s emotions had stabilized a bit, he gently asked her, "Didn’t you say she went to Germany?"

Faye Xavier slightly lowered her eyes to hide her sadness, and in a low voice, she said, "She clearly promised me she would go to Germany. I couldn’t reach her all day, and she was supposed to be at the airport by around nine in the evening. Old Man Dawson waited for over an hour at the airport without seeing her, and the calls couldn’t get through. We checked the flights at the airport, and they said the flight hadn’t been delayed and had already arrived. Old Man Dawson contacted me, and I went to her home to find her, only to discover... She hadn’t left at all and had swallowed an entire bottle of sleeping pills..."

Shane Warner remembered when Lan Irving came to him last night. He thought her mood was a bit strange, but assumed she had been drinking and that since she was preparing to leave, she just wanted to speak her mind—not realizing she intended to leave in such a way.

Shane Warner patted Faye Xavier’s shoulder and said, "It was her own choice. Don’t be too sad; you’ve already done your best to protect her."

Audrey Sutton pursed her lips and cautiously asked, "...What about Ivan Yardley? Weren’t they living together?"

Faye Xavier: "He’s abroad; the hospital has already called him."

Audrey Sutton sighed deeply. She never imagined that the cunning Lan Irving would leave by suicide. Perhaps her heart was indeed burdened with too much, but no matter what, she dared not achieve what she thought of as fairness at the expense of others.

She didn’t feel much sympathy for Lan Irving because she originally could have led a happy life. It was only that she couldn’t let go of her inner obsessions and chose to give up on life through suicide—something no one could help her with, as it was a battle she waged against herself.

Faye Xavier wasn’t considered Lan Irving’s family, so the aftermath had to wait for Ivan Yardley to come back and deal with it.

Although Ivan Yardley didn’t have the best intentions, he did genuinely care for Lan Irving, so her suicide should hit him hard.

Audrey Sutton didn’t know if this counted as karma. She wasn’t gloating but had turned a bit melancholic. On the way back, she asked Shane Warner, "Do you think she did it because of you?"

Shane Warner: "If everyone who couldn’t have love used such ways to impose a sense of guilt on others, then wouldn’t there be no reason left in the world? It’s she herself who couldn’t let go. Though one should respect the deceased, she indeed brought this upon herself."

Audrey Sutton looked at him, "I’ve found that you’re quite cold-blooded."

Shane Warner: "Do you want me to be emotionally involved with everyone?"

Audrey Sutton quickly shook her head, "Just felt that she had been with you for quite a while..."

Shane Warner said calmly, "If, in the beginning, I had given her hope and then kicked her away, then you could say it was my fault she ended up on this path. But from the start, I made things very clear to her. She was the one who couldn’t get past her own obsessions. With her, my conscience is clear."

Audrey Sutton nodded and looked thoughtfully out the window.

Afterward, Shane Warner, like a father figure, told her, "Life isn’t a fairy tale. There aren’t many wishes granted or beautiful endings. Always remember, before you love someone else, love yourself first."

Audrey Sutton turned her head to look at him and sweetly smiled, "Am I very lucky then? I feel like I live in a fairy tale."

Shane Warner chuckled, glanced at her, and said, "Then keep being a princess."

Audrey Sutton thought that perhaps only those who grew up with love truly know how to love.

Lan Irving’s long-standing environment led her to have such distorted obsessions and to walk down this extreme path.

Lan Irving’s death made the news the next morning. Some media cornered Ivan Yardley at the airport for an interview, but he didn’t say a word and, with a solemn face, left directly in the escort of bodyguards.

The news of their wedding seemed just like yesterday.

There were many speculations in the public about Lan Irving’s suicide. Some said Ivan Yardley had two faces in public and private, leading to his newlywed wife’s suicide. Others speculated that, after marrying, Ivan Yardley was unfaithful, leaving Lan Irving heartbroken and driving her to suicide. Some even proposed conspiracy theories, suggesting that Lan Irving was murdered, not a suicide...

These online speculations were only momentary public opinions. Within a few days, they were overshadowed by other concerns, and no one discussed the matter anymore. Even Lan Irving’s funeral was lonely and deserted.

Originally, Shane Warner hadn’t planned on going. Audrey Sutton felt that as she had passed, it was appropriate to see Lan Irving off one last time.

At the funeral, besides Ivan Yardley and a few of his relatives, there were only Faye Xavier and Shane Warner.

Ivan Yardley appeared much calmer than expected, or maybe men just don’t like to show their emotions.

As Shane Warner and Ivan Yardley were at odds, after Audrey laid the flowers, she and Shane Warner left without meeting Ivan Yardley face to face.

These couple of days, it had been intermittently drizzling, and the weather wasn’t as hot as during the summer holidays, with a gradual cooling. When going out in the morning, Shane Warner had already asked Audrey Sutton to wear a coat.

Audrey Sutton no longer opposed him there; when he asked her to wear something, she would obediently put it on. Once at school, she would take it off without him knowing.

After the morning classes, Audrey Sutton stayed in the dormitory to paint in the afternoon, creating a birthday gift for Shane Warner that could also serve as their couple avatar.

Last time, when she changed the avatar to a small heart out of spite, he changed his previously pitch-black avatar.

After reconciling, when she asked him what it meant, he said his sky was originally starless and moonless, bleak and dark, and she had become the only star in his sky.

Audrey Sutton didn’t know if he came up with that on the spot. Either way, she found it pleasing, and they didn’t change their avatars again. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

While painting, her phone, charging on the side, suddenly rang.

Audrey Sutton leaned to check the caller ID and was surprised to see it was a call from Vanessa Sterling. She rarely called, usually contacting her via WhatsApp.

Curious, Audrey Sutton answered the call: "Vanessa?"

"Audrey, I’m at your school now. Where are you? I’ll come find you."

"What’s up?"

"There’s a package for you. My aunt said it was originally meant for you, but there was an address mistake, so it got sent to me. She asked me to bring it to you."

Audrey Sutton furrowed her brow, thinking to herself that Clarissa Morgan wouldn’t have made such a careless mistake. Clearly, this was deliberate. What kind of game was this woman playing now?

She went out and met Vanessa. Vanessa handed her the package box and said, "I don’t know what it is, but it was sent by her, so Audrey, you better be careful."

Audrey Sutton shook the box and murmured, "It shouldn’t be anything dangerous, but why would she send it to you?"

Vanessa shook her head, "I don’t know either, but I feel like she did it on purpose."
