Chapter 105: Panic in Asonvale. Going Back to the Sect

The way back to Asonvale was long, but with Exildra’s life on the line, they pushed. On the way back, they met some adventurers who accepted them into their carriage.

In an hour, they were back in Asonvale, but what met them wasn’t a peaceful town like they’d encountered when they first came here.

The town was in panic mode. People scurried into their homes, the guards on the walls were on high alert for whatever was causing the panic. Looking outside the window, Sel noticed a sharp and wide line in the sky. It seemed to be the cause of the panic and it was understandable.

Anyone would be in panic if the sky suddenly splits. It was obvious they were taking that as an attack or an eventual attack.

Sel just smiled wryly as he explained his findings to everyone while they passed through the town gates after a thorough check. When the guards saw their group and the two unconscious girls, they allowed them in without further investigations.

As a matter of fact, the appearance of the girls pushed them to tighten security, unknown to the group.

Bahamut was strange quiet along the way, his gaze on the pale-skinned Exildra whose breathing seemed almost nonexistent. Thankfully, Apollonia’s light element had some healing properties, though it was nothing powerful, but it had managed to stop the bleeding and nullified about fifty percent of the ghoul’s poison.

Bahamut’s blindfold was on now, while Ren sat on his shoulder, patting him with his small paws. He could feel the barely contained emotions of his friend. He could sense the cold resolve he was trying to muster as he looked at the girl he’d come to like... maybe love.

Very soon, they were in the town. Bahamut carried Exildra, while Sel carried Rakia. They thought they would be going to see a healer or a nurse of some sorts but Apollonia stopped them.

"The sect is the best place to treat them," she said as she fiddled with her crest.

"But how do we get there? We are possibly kingdoms apart!" Sel spoke, his tone becoming higher by the second.

"That’s why we must get to the sect. Follow me!" Apollonia said with a calm expression and moved. She understood their emotions very well, especially Bahamut. He was just quiet because his focus was on Exildra. As for Sel, Rakia was his responsibility, and only a few knew of his relationship with Rakia.

Sel and Bahamut followed Apollonia through the town back to the inn where they’d stayed when they first came to Asonvale. The place was quiet, very quiet. They greeted the owner and quietly headed to the ladies’ room. They’d paid to stay there for a week.

The moment they got there, Apollonia took her crest and injected it with manner. Soon enough, the crest lit up in a blue light. A projection of Elder Silvia appeared, her usual cold and calm face on display. Her blue eyes narrowed at the sight of the unconscious girls and the bloody appearances of the others.

"How bad?" she asked Apollonia in a grave tone, her eyes staring intently at Exildra, whose face was covered by a blood-soaked cloth.

"Black Mission," Apollonia answered, making Elder Silvia’s eyes widen.

"I will inform Elder Hakar. I apologize for my oversight," Elder Silvia said as the projection faded and Apollonia collapsed on a bed. She had exhausted her mana from just the projection.

After five more minutes of loud silence, a shimmering portal materialized in their room. Apollonia stood up immediately and called for the still-conscious boys.

"Let’s go..."

Ren transformed into his massive form and offered to carry the girls through. Bahamut and Sel followed after into the portal.

Their mission had ended officially, and it was pretty much eventful, but not the kind they were expecting.

...

[Shadow Fang Sect, Obsidian Citadel, Elder Silvia’s Residence...]

Elders Silvia and Iset stood in a large hall with worried expressions when a portal materialized in the hall.

A huge rabbit-like creature walked out of the portal, causing Elder Iset to tense up instantly, but Elder Silvia stopped her from attacking.

The creature, Ren, walked out of the portal carrying two unconscious girls on his back. Apollonia stepped out next, one wing hanging limp, and with her clothes torn in places she hadn’t even noticed.

Bahamut and Sel appeared next, both shirtless, with their trousers cut in places, and their body covered in blood, both theirs and the ghoul’s.

Elder Silvia and Iset rushed to their sides to check up on them. Their expressions changed when they noticed Exildra’s face, which was clawed so deeply that the wounds could be filled with water. It was even starting to turn black despite Apollonia’s first aid.

Elder Silvia acted immediately. A blue glow surrounded her fingers as a small ball of water covered Exildra’s face. The ball glowed deeply as Elder Iset motioned with her hand, and Exildra floated up from Ren’s back, followed by Rakia.

"I will take them to the Head Healer of the Citadel. I suggest you also visit her immediately," Elder Iset stated as she disappeared from the place.

Elder Silvia looked at her disciples, her expression showing a bit of worry.

"I am sorry," she said with a slight bow, surprising them. But she didn’t wait for them to say anything. She turned on her heels and said loudly.

"Let’s go meet Henut. After that, we will meet with the Chief Elder to report on what you experienced on the mission.

Afterwards, you will be rewarded heavily by the sect."

Bahamut, Sel, and Apollonia just nodded and followed her out of the hall. Ren swiftly transformed into his normal form and jumped onto Bahamut’s shoulder, his eyes showing worry.

Bahamut hadn’t spoken ever since they escaped the clutches of the ghoul, and he was worried. Ever since they met, back when he was in a weak body with a cut arm, when Bahamut appeared as a mighty, incomprehensible being in his consciousness, he had always had the notion that nothing could get to him, and Bahamut had ascertained that with his continuous victorious feats.

So this came as a great hit to him. That’s when he realized that he’d been seeing Bahamut as that being, forgetting that he was now a mortal just like him.

’I just pray that Exildra will be alright or else...’ he didn’t complete it because he could tell that it wouldn’t end well.
