I reincarnated as an elf .......and married the yandere villainess.-Chapter 71:Dark elf kingdom
Solaris was the next to approach. He glanced at Atheline then at Lilith before a small smile flashed.
"You’re leaving sooner than expected," he said.
Atheline chuckled. He remembered the day he arrived Solaris had offered to help him escape.
He’d sent him a letter but Atheline had turned it down.
"Do you want us to linger," Lilith answered before Atheline could.
Solaris shook his head.
"I thought he’d take you on a tour around the kingdom."
"He took me around the capital if that counts," she said with a small smile.
"Really, that’s good then," he said and patted Atheline’s shoulder," I wish you a fruitful marriage."
Atheline smiled.
"Thank you."
After that, a few other courageous nobles also stepped forward. There were one or two dark elves that also came to congratulate them.
The few that had remained in the capital while the bulk went back home.
The last one to come forward was as expected lord dusk. He didn’t look good. There were barely visible dark circles under his eyes but what stood out was his veiled glare.
Atheline chuckled inside. The man must be so confused.
"Your majesty, young lord, congratulations on your marriage, " he said almost robotically," I wish you a fruitful marriage blessed by the light."
"Thank you my lord," Atheline said politely, " how have you been?"
Atheline knew the man wouldn’t take the engagement break very well. With the death of Elydrah, his observations in his home have proved useful.
Things were far more complicated than Atheline wanted to admit. He had thought that after killing Elydrah the trigger to his wife’s downfall, he would be able to rest easy but his observations brought a different result.
’Let’s just be patient’
Atheline watched as he ran a hand through his hair before he spoke.
"It’s nothing," he said.
Atheline nodded." I do apologise for my intrusion, I just noticed you seem unwell. "
Lord Dusk chuckled dryly.
"I do not wish to burden you on such a joyous..."
"Just be out with it," Lilith cut him off.
This garnered everyone’s attention. Atheline knew from the barely noticeable lift of his corner that he had wanted the attention on them.
’How annoying’
"My son has gone missing," he said directly but the sorrow anyone would expect from a father was missing.
"How unfortunate," Atheline replied, " do you remember when you last saw him?"
Lord Dusk shook his head but before he could continue Lilith pulled Atheline away towards the door.
"Tsk.. how annoying, must you bring your grievances to us?"
Her irritation was clear. Atheline glanced one last time at lord dusk who was looking at them with eyes filled with venom and followed after his new wife.
’He’s going to be a problem’
Outside the procession had formed.
’This is a fancy goodbye’
Atheline and Lilith stood at the front of the palace down the path leading to a dark fancy carriage, and guards from both sides. On the right were high elf soldiers while on the left were dark elf soldiers each holding different weapons the sun shining down on them.
Nobles stood at a distance whispering to each other as they looked at the two.
Atheline’s gaze went to his parents who were standing next to the king on a high balcony, the nobles whom he recognised, and lastly to the protagonist who was watching him with a sad look in his eyes.
Athelines flashed him a smile before turning his attention to Lilith. This felt like his last time in the kingdom but he knew he would eventually come back.
It felt surreal. The last time his plans to leave the kingdom had been to run away from the very woman who was now taking him out of the kingdom.
A small chuckle escaped him at the irony of the situation.
"What are you thinking about?" She asked him.
Atheline smiled and held her hand tighter.
"I’m just thinking how lucky I am that you chose me as the person to spend your life with."
She smiled.
"I have good taste you know," he said, " let’s go, husband. "
Atheline smiled.
"Sure."
The carriage door closed quietly behind them cutting them off from the outside world.
In front of the carriage, a dark portal started to form until it stopped expanding. The carriage started and entered the portal leaving the elven kingdom behind.
The carriage became dark just for a second before the familiar luminous light surrounded them.
Atheline glanced outside, only to be met by an unfamiliar sight.
He had expected them to go to the palace directly but from where he was he could see the palace from a distance and all the other mountains surrounding it.
"Aren’t we going to the palace?" He asked her confused.
She nodded.
"Yes, but you must be first introduced," she said almost casually.
The carriage door opened before he could ask for an explanation.
"Stay there."
Atheline got out and stepped around the carriage and held his hand out to her.
She smiled and got out with his help.
"Look," she said quietly.
It was then that he noticed other people were watching them. He had been too focused on her to care about the gazes on him.
Around them in raised steps stood nobles, guards and Atheline even noticed those in the mountains were staring down at them.
’So I’m basically being introduced to the whole group, huh."
Atheline straightened while his cold gaze met every noble eye his eyes could reach.
Inside his mind moved, cataloging everyone before. Those who looked familiar were matched and those who didn’t were stored.
He knew he needed to adapt and learn fast if he wanted to survive next to her. Most of them clearly didn’t accept him and those were the ones to look out for.
Lilith stepped from behind him her gaze colder than usual and her hands behind her back.
At the moment she carried the countenance of a queen and the world seemed to feel it.
The elves who had been staring at her each bowed but not too deeply but Atheline noticed a clear difference.
Above around the mountains those who looked like commoners knelt fully in their bows, akin to worshipping her.
’So they also observe such a strict hierarchy’
He had seen it in a history book. How they bowed represented their status or power.
Lilith’s uninterested gaze swept over them until it came to a stop. A sarcastic laugh escaped her garnering everyone’s attention.
