Chapter 70: 70:Leaving.

"We did it for the future of our people! They won’t accept! A blue blood, those disgusting blue bloods are supposed to die!" Froth formed at the corner of his mouth as he fell into a daze," You are already a dirty blood... Now you want to mix..."

A crack sound filled the room shutting the man up.

His face turned to the side as blood started to drip down the corner of his mouth.

The rope swung him around from the impact shaving the little skin that had survived his first assault.

"My brother used to say the same thing," she murmured coldly.

The face of the unpleasant duo came to her mind. She shook it off the disgust palpable.

The prisoners froze.

The slapped prisoner turned to look at her, his gaze still filled with a cult-like worship and stare that would have sent shivers down the spine of a normal person.

Lilith found them disgusting.

"We serve his vision," he murmured shakily," the bloodline must remain pure. You..."

Her gaze froze him again. She smirked sending shivers down their spine.

"..My brother is dead," she said evenly, " killed by my very own hands."

"That.."

She stepped closer shutting the man up. She turned his gaze to his side. The female prisoner began to sob.

"It’s annoying how his rot remains, " she said in annoyance, " does a dead man still wish to take the throne in his grave?"

Fear eventually won.

"They planned it!" The woman shouted frantically, "We were ordered. If we couldn’t control him then it would be best for him to die."

The female prisoner now had Lilith’s full attention. She tilted her head, just a little as she stared at the bound woman.

"Control...him?" she repeated.

"Yes!" The man jumped in, his desperation visible, " he’s close to you, we thought, if we could use him we might force your hand...!"

She raised her hand stopping his word vomit. Her gaze never left the female prisoner.

"Did you touch him?"

No one answered. She wasn’t looking for an answer to begin with.

She stared between the two and sighed softly.

"I see."

Her screams vibrated through the walls before they reduced to a whimper then nothing. The man followed right afterwards having escaped the facial mutilation.

Lilith was left standing before three still bodies their lives having left them. Blood still warm dripped down joining the pool of blood under the bodies.

She then carefully and methodically got to work, removing their head. She hummed softly as she made sure to level the cut so that it wouldn’t destroy the aesthetic.

Lilith walked out of the room and stood by the prison guard.

"I need the heads packaged beautifully. They should be well preserved," she smiled almost wistfully, " I’m going to give it to my beloved as a present."

She left the dungeon and went back to her room where Atheline slept.

.

She smiled at the memory, feeling proud of the fact that she had given him the best gift.

The footsteps approaching outside prompted her to get off Atheline and the bed altogether.

Atheline looked up at her in surprise.

"Go, clean up. We’ll be leaving today, " she said.

"Why didn’t you tell me earlier," he said mildly irritated.

Atheline had never taken a bath or dressed so fast. In under twenty minutes, he was done and smiling at her.

She had sat there waiting for him as she admired his struggles.

"I need to say my farewells to my parents, " he said while righting his robes in front of the mirror.

She nodded.

"You don’t have to worry, everyone has gathered at the main hall to wish us farewell," she said.

"Are the other delegates gone?" Atheline asked.

She nodded.

Atheline let out a sigh, he really didn’t want to deal with any more people at the moment.

The wedding had been hectic enough.

"Let’s go."

The walk along the corridors was peaceful. A respite that Atheline knew wouldn’t last long before chaos came chasing them down.

It always does.

Every servant they passed would either bow too low or try to escape while nobles stood on high alert as they awkwardly congratulated them.

Atheline could feel their pity towards him even from a mile away and he was sure she could feel it too.

She had her arms wrapped around his forearm as they walked, her gaze mostly staying on him or occasionally drifting away as they met others.

"Do you feel it?" She whispered a small smile on her face.

Her gaze followed the trembling high elf noble who almost stumbled.

"They’re afraid of us," he said skeptically.

She smiled and nodded.

"Do you wish for everyone to like you?" She asked.

Atheline shook his head.

"You encompass everything, " he paused, " having you is more than enough. "

She chuckled and leaned onto him.

"You’re really a smooth talker."

The morning walk came to a halt in front of the throne room doors. The guards standing at the entrance hurriedly pushed the door open revealing the throne room occupants.

The two walked in under the gaze of the royal family, his family, the council, and a few high and dark elf nobles who had stuck by.

"My king," Atheline barely bowed.

His status had been elevated too suddenly but he didn’t want to act boostful since the king had been akin to an uncle to him.

"You’ll be leaving soon," the king said.

He stood up from the throne and walked down until he came to a stop a few steps from them.

"Queen Lilith, " he started his eyes carrying the solemnity of age," I would like to officially welcome you within our grounds anytime you would wish to do so. Your people will be welcomed within our borders as long as they conduct themselves according to our laws"

Lilith smiled.

"I guess I should return the courtesy, " she said," our gates will be opened to high elves as long as they maintain the same courtesy."

’I don’t think most high elves would even want to step out of the kingdom’s borders’

The king nodded and stepped back. This was more of a permission for anyone who would like to speak to him to come forward.

His parents were of course the first. His father walked towards him in a posture filled with pride while his mother held onto his arm.

Atheline observed her. She had gotten thinner and looked more stressed.

They hadn’t spoken in a while but he wasn’t about to force himself on her. It would be better if she came to him herself.

"Good morning, Father," Atheline greeted the moment they entered his range.

His father’s gaze moved between the two before it settled on Lilith.

"I hope my son is treating you well?"

Lilith smiled, the corner of her eyes crinkling.

"Yes, you had a blessing for a child Lord Helmer."

His father nodded.

"Indeed.," he turned his attention to Atheline, "I hope you can treat your wife well."

Atheline nodded with a smile.

"I will."

His mother cleared her throat and bowed towards Lilith.

"I do apologise your majesty for my behaviour," she said calmly shocking Atheline.

’Okay, that surprised me’

"It’s okay, " Lilith said while rubbing their marks," you gave me a far greater reward."

If she hadn’t suggested the judgment from the world tree, she wouldn’t have gotten Atheline’s mark on her body and him hers.

She could forgive her moments of resistance, for today. Lady Arthena stepped forward and cupped Atheline’s cheek as she did when he was young.

"I do hope you will have a good marriage, " she said softly.

Atheline smiled and nodded.

"I will."

His own parents were his biggest example, maintaining a marriage for more than two hundred years with little to no arguments, which he had witnessed.
