He Became A Monstrous Genius After Obtaining A Time Dilation Artifact-Chapter 659. Professor
The banquet proceeded without any drama. Such things were beneath those gathered here.
Legoland took the initiative to greet Kailen and his friends. Several members of the imperial faction actually planned to offer their seats to Kailen and Arrie; however, he opted against it. It was also the reason why Legoland did not reserve a seat at his side for him. Kailen had decided against it. He didn’t see the need for such things.
Legoland greeted everyone in Kailen’s group without putting on the airs of an emperor. He treated them like family. Each one of them were people who had been a part of Kailen’s journey. Even if they may not have certainly always been with him during his adventures throughout the universe, they were an integral part of his life. Legoland treated them with respect, as he would treat Kailen.
After that, Legoland made a toast to Kailen. The banquet continued.
The powerhouses, both men and women, at the gathering introduced themselves to Former Arbiter Kailen Darkhaven as they had to Emperor Legoland. Kailen exchanged some formal, pleasant words with them. Some even came offering favors and gifts, but Kailen rejected them all politely. At his level, accepting certain favors could mean allying himself to a certain power. Allying himself to a certain power could mean sharing enemies with his allies.
Though he was powerful, he was not proud. He was not standing at the peak of the universe. Kailen was someone who was always careful. Also, his goal was cultivation, not navigating political headaches. He didn’t want to waste his time on something that was not his goal. Even assisting Legoland to get to where he was, had been a means to an end. Although he had to admit, he was starting to realize he was starting to see Legoland as a friend recently, which was something he was not against. He was a social being after all—not a statue without social tendencies. He just had strict social reservations, that was all.
Naturally, these powerhouses were a bit down. But, they didn’t dare act presumptuous or offended. Striking a conversation with Kailen in itself was a goal earned.
Many ladies eyed the group, especially Kailen and Arrie. Several of them had several thoughts swirling in their minds. Fantasies bloomed. But that was all: fantasies. They didn’t dare approach him with romantic intentions. Regardless of achievements or cultivation prowess, they knew it would be an insult to approach him with such intentions. In the past, they could have shot their shot, whether he had a fiance or not. But the current Kailen Darkhaven was not someone you could just approach with such intentions. Also, they were certain that even if they could have approached him, he would have politely rejected them. He had only had space in his heart for Arrie Hall alone.
One woman, however, approached the group after several powerhouses had exchanged trivial talks with the Former Arbiter. She had waited for her turn. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
This was the Principal of the RiverBlood Empire Academy: Theodora RiverBlood. A noble from the third imperial clan.
As she approached Kailen, Legoland, who was chatting with one of the powerhouses, gestured politely to be excused. He joined her. Legoland introduced her to Kailen formally, and Kailen to her. Kailen’s loved ones, Arrie excluded, excused them briefly out of courtesy.
"It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr Darkhaven, Miss Hall." The woman’s eyes flashed with admiration. This young man was the Mad Tactician, the figure behind several legendary feats, and the recent documented occurrence in Virtual Universe Association Archives: The Great Erasure. He could not be treated like any other young cultivator. It would be foolish to do so. Even several old monsters she knew were not as terrifying as him. Also, the woman with him held the highest place in his heart. She didn’t dare look down on her.
Kailen replied, "Pleasure to meet you as well, Principle RiverBlood."
"His Imperial Highness tells me he wanted to provide you a slot to join the RiverBlood Empire Academy as a student?" She cut straight to the point. Her eyes were sparkling at the moment. When she had first heard this from the emperor, she was shocked. But she didn’t dare think someone of Kailen’s calibre should be accepted as a student. It was an insult to his status.
What at all could the academy teach someone like him? What experiences could they drill into a young man who was more experienced and terrifying than old monsters? Instead, an idea had brewed in her mind. She discussed with the academy board, and they agreed happily. Hopefully, they were not stupid. Had they disagreed, she would have gone ahead to procede with her decision anyway.
Kailen nodded. "Indeed."
Theodora nodded with a smile. "Very well. Sir, on behalf of the academy, how about you become a professor?"
A glint flashed through Kailen’s eyes as he mused inwardly: "They think my status is unfit for a student. But, they cannot let an opportunity to have me associated with the academy slip by. The benefits of a professor will definitely be worth it. Not bad."
Kailen knew that becoming a professor of the academy was the highest level one could get to, below the level of a principal. It was all public knowledge. The academy did not conceal such things from the public. The staff hierarchy of the RiverBlood Empire Academy was this, in ascending order:
Mentor, Chief Mentor, Lecturer, Professor, Principal.
Each level came with corresponding benefits. To climb the ladder, one had to perform various tasks such as completing certain staff missions, and performing certain notable achievements. Completing each of the missions also came with its benefits.
Of course, Kailen had skipped the process entirely to the professor level. He would start enjoying the benefits of a professor the moment he accepted the offer. It seemed this was the first time the academy was doing something like this since it was founded. Well, with someone like Kailen among them, the academy’s prestige would soar. Only a foolish organisation will let go of an opportunity like this.
He understood, though, that regardless of his prestige, if he joined the academy as a professor and enjoyed the benefits of a professor, he still had to take on certain missions for the academy only someone at a professor level could take on. At least every month, he had to take on a mission, apart from occasional lectures he would have with certain students. Kailen knew the academy was the place in the RiverBlood Empire with the best level of natural secret realms, and cultivation mountains that could help him in his cultivation.
At most, if he took on a mission that turned out to be too dangerous, he could always use a teleportation rune, warp space, or use umbral replacement to escape. It was not inconveniencing for him in any way. As for the position of the Principal, he naturally didn’t care about it.
"I think it’s a good opportunity for you Kai. You should take it," Arrie suggested warmly after weighing the benefits.
The principal looked at Arrie with gratitude. Bless this young lady.
Kailen nodded. "I believe so too." He agreed with Arrie. He had nothing to lose. It was a very beneficial outcome. Besides, he had decided to enroll as a student. Now, professorship had been sent straight to his laps. Things had proceeded better than he expected.
"I look forward to seeing you again at the academy, Principal" Kailen said.
The principal was very happy. She smiled warmly. "I’m very pleased with your response Mr Darkhaven. You can report anytime you want to. I will personally escort you into the academy when you are ready to report. Here’s my number. Please, let me know when you are ready."
"Sure will," Kailen replied warmly.
"Sir, Madam, Your Imperial Highness, I will be returning to my duties then." She raised her glass in courtesy, and left.
"Professor Darkhaven, huh?" Arrie chuckled. "Not bad."
