Ling Xuan’s words tore through the air, sending chills down the air. Her eyes narrowed deeply at them.

"You think this is the best time to argue about meaningless stuff? There is nothing you can say that would change the outcome, no matter who was right or wrong." She said, her brooding gaze swept over their figure.

"We should be planning on how to find our way out, not fight. We don’t even know if the vines will return to attack again. If any of you tries to create another problem with me, you will answer to my sword." Ling Xuan’s expression hardened, shooting them a glare one last time before walking past them to retrieve her daggers.

"Laurel. I was wrong. You are right. We should find our way out." Alexander said, glancing one last time at his arms.

Alexander’s eyes darkened slightly, the Laurel he knew wouldn’t dare throw a dagger his way or even dare to cut his clothes. The more he thought about it the more intrigued he became.

Chris straightened his clothes, before scanning his surroundings. Right at their left, there were two passageways. The entrances were as dark as night, with vines creeping over the overhead, sending shivers down the spine of its beholder.

He tapped his finger slowly against his thigh. Chris knew they couldn’t remain here, or they might risk another attack or worse run out of air.

He turned to Ling Xuan. "Are you thinking what I’m thinking?"

Ling Xuan tightened her fingers around her sword, her gaze slowly drifting to the passageway. "We have no other choice."

Alexander glanced at them. He hated the fact that they could both understand what the other was saying. His fingers tightened around his gun.

"But there are two passages." Alexander chipped, his eyes drifting from the passageway to Chris before returning to Ling Xuan.

"We are not splitting." Chris immediately voiced his dissatisfaction.

"That is the only way we can cover more ground," Alexander said, moving over to Ling Xuan’s side.

"We don’t know what is inside them. Splitting is a bad idea, especially since we are just three." Chris clenched his jaw. ’Sly bastard, I know you are planning to get rid of me.’

"I’ll go with Laurel, you will take the other way." Alexander folded his arms across his chest, his eyes locking with Chris’s.

"I’ll go with her, you should take the other entrance," Chris said, walking forward to close the space between them.

"No, I’ll go with her." Alexander’s voice became irritated.

"I’m sick, and she is my doctor, it is only right that she goes with me," Chris said with a little smile dancing at the corner of his lips.

Alexander scoffed. "She is my wife and it is only right that I go with her."

Ling Xuan furrowed brows twitched slightly as the suggestion had become an argument. "Stop." She raised her hands to silence them.

She closed her eyes, a mischievous glint dancing in her eyes. "Since you both can’t seem to figure out what to do, you both will explore one of the caves together and I will explore the other. Remember we meet back here in half an hour."

’Good riddance.’ She thought inwardly.

"No." Alexander and Chris said simultaneously.

However, Ling Xuan had already begun striding towards the left entrance. She stopped right at the cave’s mouth, glancing over her shoulder. "Try not to die." Without waiting for their response she ventured inside.

Alexander and Chris stared with fallen jaws. Their eyes widened, unable to believe what in the name of all the gods had just happened.

They slowly turned to each other, their eyes not bothering to conceal the hatred in them. "Hell No!" Alexander shouted as he strode towards the entrance Ling Xuan had entered.

Chris’s expression returned to a calm one, walking behind Alexander. The moment they entered the cave, they didn’t speak to each other, rather they let the tension in the air do the talking.

They walked for a couple of minutes, before coming to a halt.

Alexander closed his eyes in frustration, before opening them again. His eyes stared at the three smaller passageways right in front of them.

Chris’s eyes showed little to no reaction. His gaze lowered to the ground, in the hope of tracking her footsteps. But the shallow water on the ground concealed whatever path she had taken.

"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" Alexander shouted, slamming his fist against the wall.

His ragged breathing filled the air, then he suddenly stopped punching. He snapped his head towards Chris who was now calmly relaxing his back against the wall with one hand in his pocket.

"This is all your fault!" He shouted. "We wouldn’t have lost her if it were not for you!" His eyes turned bloodshot with anger.

If his words riled Chris, he didn’t show it. "This is also how you blame me for losing the Mega contract to me," Chris said calmly. "If you hadn’t suggested splitting, this wouldn’t have happened... what? You expected a sick person like me to venture alone inside an unknown cave? Blame your jealousy." He added nonchalantly.

Alexander’s fist clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white. "Do you know I can kill you right now and no one would question me?" He said in a low voice, under his breath.

"The question is, are you capable of killing?" Chris asked slowly, his fingers hovering around the trigger of his gun.

Alexander cracked his head to his left before to his right. "I am more than capable..." He paused, letting the tension between them grow stronger. "But that wouldn’t be fun, would it?" A sadistic smile formed on his lips.

"Since you want my wife badly... I’ll let you watch how I’ll gain her heart and trust before killing you."

Chris chuckled at his words, which only made Alexander’s heart clench in anger. His chest burned so hot that he wanted to wipe the smug off his face.

"Remember I always win if I want to," Chris said, his expression turning serious.

Alexander’s eyes sparkled with the desire to crush him. "Then, we will see who will win her heart in three months... what do you say?"

"Don’t come crying when you lose," Chris muttered, though his fingers remained on the gun.

"I’ll take that as a yes."
