When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 832: Father-in-Law Comes Through
And so, Rachel Sherman and Chase Fletcher secretly got married on this ordinary, normal morning.
Even Kylie Fletcher didn’t know about it. She was busy filming on set and hadn’t returned, and the family hadn’t informed her since it wasn’t a wedding celebration.
Rachel didn’t tell Ben Fletcher, and Chase thought being happy was enough and didn’t need to brag.
So, he didn’t mention it either.
However, being in the same office with them, Ben Fletcher sensed the two were becoming happier by the day.
Despite being busy at work and not communicating much, the way they looked at each other had changed, with added tenderness and affection.
"Bro, Rachel, when do you plan to get married?" Ben suddenly felt anxious for them this day. "I feel like you two already look like a married couple. Have you ever looked in the mirror together? You’re starting to look more and more alike."
"Is your gift money ready?" Chase sat at his desk, looking up at him. "How much have you prepared?"
Ben was taken aback for a moment and replied seriously, "Oh, oh, oh, so it’s not ready yet because you haven’t prepared the bride price! I see now!"
Rachel couldn’t help but be amused by the two of them.
A week later, when Chase took Rachel on a business trip, the news spread throughout the company, especially among the female staff, reaching a fevered pitch.
Thus, a scandalous rumor about Rachel began to spread, described in vivid detail—
"Rachel used to be a reporter. To get important news, she slept with several big shots and was involved in an affair, but she failed to climb up."
"Rachel and I were classmates, and she liked to flirt with other people’s boyfriends. Not many girls liked her in our class."
"Someone like her got into the President’s office, likely by sleeping her way up. I don’t believe she and President Fletcher aren’t involved."
"What? President Fletcher isn’t looking for a girlfriend, just playing around with her? Don’t talk nonsense; President Fletcher doesn’t have such taste."
"I don’t understand why Mrs. Lancaster, Faye Turner, is friends with her. Maybe she’s trying to climb socially?"
"Let me tell you, Rachel is no good. I want to see how long she lasts in the Fletcher Group. People of poor character like her will be found out by President Fletcher sooner or later."
Jasmine Quinn listened to these discussions and suddenly thought Rachel was a terrifying woman. Could Chase be tricked by someone so unscrupulous?
It’s hard to guard against, and they even went on a business trip together!
"Where did they go on a business trip?" Jasmine walked into the President’s office and asked Ben Fletcher, "When did they leave? When will they be back?"
Ben looked up, "..."
"Assistant Fletcher, did my brother Chase and Rachel go on a business trip? Is it true?"
Seeing her anxious expression, Ben understood something, "Yes, they’ll be back soon."
Due to the increasing gossip, Ian Fletcher happened to visit the company. Coming out of the restroom, he overheard the discussion of two female employees not far away—
"Who knows where this Secretary Sherman came from; she just parachuted in without any work experience. I heard she was a reporter before, which is totally unrelated to a secretary’s job."
"President Fletcher might be under her sway. He used to take Assistant Fletcher on trips, and now he takes a female secretary. Isn’t he afraid of rumors?"
"What’s there to gossip about?" Ian Fletcher looked at their backs and spoke with displeasure.
The two women, hearing his voice, turned their heads and were almost scared out of their wits when they saw him. Gossiping is not allowed in the company!
"Hello, Chairman." They quickly bowed, feeling timid.
A few company executives stood behind Ian Fletcher, their expressions a bit awkward, as the recent rumors were getting out of hand.
Ian Fletcher took a step forward and sternly said, "Let me tell you, gossiping about my son and daughter-in-law during work hours can lead to performance deductions or, in severe cases, termination!"
