Chapter 150: 145 Peng Pingan wakes up

Peng Qing’s serious expression proved he wasn’t lying about the company.

Wang Jian had great respect for Peng Qing for being able to make such an offer. While practicing medicine in Capital City, he had encountered his fair share of repulsive parents. He had even seen parents abandon their children at the hospital and vanish without a trace. Compared to them, Peng Qing’s words made Wang Jian see him in a new light.

"Mr. Peng, you’re being too generous," Wang Jian said. He wasn’t interested in the company or the money. "I can accept the apprenticeship gift, but let’s forget about the company. I’m just a village doctor; I don’t have the ability to run a company. My dream is simply to be a good doctor."

"However, you can rest assured that your son will only be learning from me how to treat illnesses with Qi. Whether he chooses to study medicine formally is entirely up to him."

After Wang Jian finished, Peng Qing let out a sigh of relief. He had gotten somewhat carried away, though he would have absolutely fulfilled his promise if Wang Jian had agreed. But that’s just human nature. Truly letting go is never as easy as it sounds.

Seeing Wang Jian accept the check, Peng Qing clasped his hands in a gesture of respect and said, "Then I will have to trouble you."

Peng Qing had witnessed Wang Jian’s life-saving skills firsthand. He would be overjoyed if his son could learn such an ability after recovering. Peng Qing even began to consider whether he should encourage his son after he woke up.

Wang Jian nodded. "Since Mr. Peng agrees, I’ll get started."

"Please, go ahead."

With that, Wang Jian moved into action. This time, he didn’t even take out his silver needles. For someone with chaotic Qi, he had no intention of using needles; his hands were all he needed. It was just like how Xu Changqing had helped him back then.

Wang Jian formed a sword-finger gesture and pointed directly at various acupoints on Peng Pingan’s body. He lingered at each point for a few seconds. At first, Cai Xing and the others thought Wang Jian was just poking him randomly. But as Wang Jian continued his work, distinct reactions began to appear on Peng Pingan’s body.

Stepping out of the room with a confused expression, Liu Yuke stopped a passing nurse. Unlike Liu Yuke, whom Peng Qing had hired from out of town, this nurse was from Cai’s Hospital.

"Have you seen this Doctor Wang before?" Liu Yuke asked. He couldn’t possibly ignore this young doctor, especially since he had just been bested by an unknown person in that room. "Could you tell me about him?"

The nurse he asked seemed thoughtful. She first shook her head but then spoke. "Although I haven’t seen him before, judging by Mr. Cai’s reaction and the fact that the doctor’s surname is Wang, I can probably guess who he is."

"What do you mean?"

This response was unexpected. Liu Yuke was surprised that even a nurse from Cai’s Hospital didn’t recognize this doctor.

"I only know this by hearsay, but apparently, Cai’s Hospital signed a very high-profile doctor from one of the villages. He’s young and holds a very high status. His surname is Wang, and Mr. Cai even arranged a special free clinic for him. It wasn’t a major event, so I only know because a friend of mine happened to go help out. This doctor... I think his name is... right... Wang Jian."

At this, the nurse suddenly smiled. "I didn’t expect this Doctor Wang to be quite handsome."

"What?" The nurse’s words weren’t particularly dramatic, but to Liu Yuke, they struck like a clap of thunder. He completely ignored her fawning remark.

He couldn’t believe the doctor who had earned Peng Qing’s trust over him was a mere village doctor.

How could this be...

He had imagined Wang Jian might be the prized pupil of some university professor, a Ph.D. who had studied abroad, or even a renowned physician who had published a paper in *The Lancet*. He had never, ever imagined he would be a village doctor.

Liu Yuke stood frozen on the spot, not even reacting when the nurse waved a hand in front of his face. He had returned to the country not just to look after Peng Qing’s child. He was also supposed to take up a position at a top-tier hospital in Capital City. Instead, here in a small mountain village, he had suffered a bitter defeat before his career could even begin.

The group inside the room was completely oblivious to Liu Yuke’s predicament, because the situation within had changed once again.

Cai Xing finally understood why Peng Qing thought so highly of Wang Jian. He was now witnessing a miracle.

Wang Jian switched from his fingers to his palm and began to massage Peng Pingan. At the same time, Peng Pingan’s eyes fluttered open. If he had merely woken up, Cai Xing wouldn’t have been so astonished.

"Don’t move!" Wang Jian stopped Peng Qing, who was rushing forward, and also held Peng Pingan in place as he instinctively tried to sit up. He said to Ping An, "You’ve just woken up, so don’t move around. Although I’ve stabilized your Qi, it’s only temporary. What you need to do now is follow my guidance and familiarize yourself with the Qi inside your body."

"What?" Peng Pingan had no idea what this "Qi" was. He was already unconscious when Wang Jian had mentioned it earlier, so now that he was awake, he was utterly bewildered.

"It’s that warm sensation you’re feeling now, like a current of water..."

After Wang Jian spoke, Peng Pingan noticed the warm current he described. Ever since his illness began, his body would be wracked with intermittent pain in various places, a tearing sensation, as if something was gnawing at him from the inside. This feeling had grown more and more pronounced since he was ten years old. In truth, even Peng Qing had no idea what kind of torment his son had endured for the past four years. Especially in the last month or two, the tearing pain had spread from a few areas to his entire body. In other words, he had been experiencing agonizing, full-body pain every single day.

But now, as he focused on the sensation Wang Jian described, he realized something.

"My body..."

Peng Pingan was startled at first. He frowned, unable to believe it. But under Wang Jian’s guidance, he confirmed it was real. The joy on his face could no longer be contained, and he cried out in elation, "It doesn’t hurt anymore!"

Hearing Peng Pingan declare that the pain was gone, Peng Qing had the strongest reaction.

"What?" Peng Qing was standing right beside Wang Jian. His delight at seeing his son awake hadn’t even faded when he received another wonderful surprise from Pingan’s reaction. "Really?"

He desperately wanted to rush over and hug Ping An, but since Wang Jian had stopped him earlier, he didn’t dare move and could only watch from the side. Just like his son, Peng Qing had lost control of his expression.

"Don’t get too excited just yet. If you let yourself get worked up again, you might revert to your previous state," Wang Jian interjected with a timely reminder. Peng Pingan’s intense reaction had even taken him aback slightly. This child endured four years of pain. It has truly been hard on him. "Try to see if you can control that warm current."

Wang Jian removed his hand, his eyes filled with anticipation as he asked the question. If Peng Pingan could control his Qi right away, it would mean he could be like me. Back then, with my master’s help, I myself mastered the use of Qi almost instantly. This was the main reason Xu Changqing held such high hopes for me. Talent is the main benchmark for Qi Cultivation, and Peng Pingan’s innate, massive reserve of Qi undoubtedly makes him a promising student. Of course, this is all contingent on Peng Pingan actually being able to control it. Even so, I know that without a human pill, Peng Pingan can never truly be like me.

"How is it?" Wang Jian asked, looking at Peng Pingan. "Do you notice anything different?"

"I... I feel relaxed all over. The sensation in my limbs is clearer than it’s ever been. I can even feel the fine hairs on my fingers."

Once he collected himself, Peng Pingan voiced his observation with a hint of curiosity.

"Hmm, feeling that is a good start."

Although this reaction didn’t quite meet Wang Jian’s expectations, it wasn’t far off. It proved the boy’s talent was indeed decent.

Wang Jian continued, "Your illness is half-cured. How the rest of it goes will depend on how well you learn. But before that, you should get some rest. There are things we can discuss later."

Wang Jian nodded, saying no more. He then left with Cai Qiong and Cai Xing. Before he walked out, he nodded at Peng Qing and saw the gratitude in the man’s eyes.

Soon, the only person left in the room was Peng Qing.

On the bed, Peng Pingan kept his eyes on Wang Jian. Even after the man disappeared behind the door, his gaze didn’t waver. He knew that the man who had just left had, in that brief moment, changed his entire world. He had not only given him hope to live but had also altered his worldview.

But despite the countless questions swirling in Peng Pingan’s mind, now was not the right time to ask them. When he looked over at his father, the grievances in his heart could no longer be contained, and the two embraced tightly. Low sobs filled the room, and it was impossible to tell if they came from Peng Qing or Peng Pingan. Both of their hearts were in turmoil. Father and son had lost too much time over the years.

"Ping An..." Peng Qing said after calming down a little. He sat down by the window. He could already feel from their hug that Peng Pingan had changed drastically—he even felt stronger.

With a trembling hand, Peng Qing stroked Peng Pingan’s head. "Are you... really not in pain anymore?"

All of this felt somewhat unreal. Peng Qing was afraid it was just a hallucination, because from his perspective, Wang Jian had hardly done anything. Just by moving his hands, he had resolved an illness that experts couldn’t even diagnose. Even though Wang Jian had repeatedly stressed that it wasn’t an illness but was caused by his Qi, that detail was unimportant to Peng Qing.

As soon as Peng Qing finished asking, Peng Pingan nodded affirmatively.

At that, Peng Qing finally laughed, though Pingan could see clearly that his father’s eyes were still red.

"As long as it doesn’t hurt. It’s good that it doesn’t hurt anymore." It was only at this moment that Peng Qing was truly certain Wang Jian hadn’t deceived him. "These past few years have been hard on you."

"Dad! Actually, I’m all right..."

Having gone through so much, Peng Pingan was actually much calmer than his father. It was all in the past. Right now, he was more focused on something else. "Can you tell me about... that person just now?"

He thought for a moment about what to call him. He had considered "doctor," but Wang Jian’s appearance was very different.

Peng Qing recounted everything Wang Jian had said, including the cause of the illness, the existence of Qi, the apprenticeship, and... Peng Qing specifically pointed to the handprint on the bed’s guardrail. Even after some time, the imprint was still shockingly conspicuous.

"So he really is a doctor?" Peng Pingan murmured to himself. "But he doesn’t seem like one."

His words resonated with Peng Qing, who laughed in agreement. "He certainly doesn’t seem like one, but..."

"He might just be the doctor with the most formidable Medical Skills in the world."
