The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 91: Ch : Don’t Go- Part 4
The air inside the dungeon felt fresh and cold. It made me feel woken up, and I inhaled the fresh air to get my nerves under control.
The bottle in my pocket wiggled, and I opened it to let Kuro out of the cage I was keeping it in.
"I am freeing you now. But if you betray me, then that would be the last thing you ever do."
I told Kuro, and he scoffed at my words.
"Don’t worry, human. Betraying you is the last thing I want to do. Let me take a look around so that I can familiarize myself with this dungeon... Hmmm, how interesting. This energy in the air feels very... familiar."
Kuro sounded genuinely surprised to feel the air around, and I watched as his eyes widened as he looked in a single direction.
He started to walk, and I grabbed hold of his collar before he could go too far.
That snapped Kuro out of the daze he was in, and he shook his head with a slight frown on his face.
"Human, this dungeon is troublesome. It already has a high priest and an awakened one at that. I don’t think there is anything we can do about it in here but to find the core and close it."
Kuro told me with full confidence. He sounded way too confident for someone who had never seen my full power.
A part of my pride felt hurt when I heard Kuro tell me that the high priest was far too dangerous for me to face on my own.
"Is the high priest in here that dangerous? Can’t we take it out? Or do you not trust me to be able to defeat him?"
I asked Kuro, and he quickly turned toward me with a slightly panicked look on his face.
"N-No, that’s not what I am saying, human. I have no doubt in your capabilities or abilities. The reason I am telling you to back off is because of the nature the high priest plays in this dungeon. If we kill the high priest, then... let’s just forget about it."
Kuro trailed off as he spoke.
There was clearly a story here that Kuro wanted to tell me but was not able to convey properly.
I was about to force him to tell me when I suddenly felt the presence of monsters heading our way. Kuro sensed that as well and pulled my hood up over my face.
Soon, four monsters headed our way, but they were not attacking us. If anything, they looked cheerful while walking around with a laugh on their faces.
They immediately noticed Kuro and me, and Kuro pushed me behind his back to hide my presence more from those monsters.
"Hey, aren’t you heading to the high priest? The fertility festival is about to start. After a long time, we will be granted the right to have new monsters in our clutches. I am so excited. Are you not excited?"
The monster asked Kuro, and Kuro let out an almost nervous laugh.
"I-I am excited as well. I will head there with my companion now. You all should hurry up and head ahead."
At Kuro’s words, the four monsters quickly left, and I gave him a look to explain what had just happened.
Kuro sighed and realized that there was no point in holding back anymore, so he started to speak.
"Do you know that your dimension is the only place where everyone can reproduce as they want? Usually, for us demons to reproduce, we need the blessing of our lord, and they are bestowed by high priests of the dungeon. So they are the most sacred things to us."
Kuro explained, and I felt my jaw twitch because of this new information.
This did not feel like something I wanted or even needed to hear about. But since Kuro had started to speak, he decided to tell me more.
"Usually, high priests are tasked with going to the dungeons that had closed and replenishing their population. This dungeon must have opened somewhere before, and the high priest must have come here to replenish the population. But weirdly enough, it opened up again, causing problems for the demons in here."
The more Kuro spoke, the more unreal the situation felt to me. I had no idea what to say or believe in this situation.
Not that Kuro considered any of it as he started to walk toward the direction the other demons had walked into.
"For now, we should follow the masses and try to find out more. You are curious about this dungeon as well, right?"
Kuro extended his hand toward mine, and I placed mine where he wanted. With a slight tug, he made me follow after him, and we reached a small clearing not too far away where demons were gathered.
The high priest was a small thing, and she barely came up to my chest. But she looked too much like a... human for me to feel comfortable.
"A... human...?"
I asked as I looked at the humanoid-shaped demon standing on the pedestal. She had a certain charm to her that made her shine.
"Don’t be fooled. That’s a demon that took human shape. Some of us are very talented at it. The more power we have, the more flawless our transformation will be and the more chances of us evolving into a high priest."
Kuro told me, and I gave him an impressed look.
After all, Kuro’s disguise had been nearly perfect when I first met him. So maybe he was much more powerful than he let on.
[My dear people-! Fear not because the lord has graced us with his blessing tonight. Please, come up here one by one and receive his blessing from my hands.]
The high priestess spoke, and her voice echoed in my head. It compelled me to step forward and do as she had asked.
[Mental attack blocked]
But I was able to resist because of my system and ability. However, not everyone was in the same position as I was, and most people around me fell for the high priest’s charm and started to head toward her one by one.
The high priest touched the demons’ hearts before she transferred a small portion of her power toward them.
Slowly, the crowd that had not been given the high priest’s blessing receded, and only a few people were left. I was among those people, and I felt nervous. I did not know whether I should move or not.
Not that I got a chance to feel nervous for long because the high priestess noticed me and Kuro, and her eyes sharpened.
"Oh my-! Some guests seem to have arrived from afar. Your energies do not feel the same as this dungeon. What are you doing here?"
The high priestess asked, her voice betraying how high-alert she was when it came to us.
’What do I say-! Think, brain! Think-!’
I told myself, but all I drew were more and more blanks. I had genuinely no idea what to say here.
Thankfully, I was not alone here, and Kuro decided to position himself in front of me to protect me once more.
