"Here we are. Don’t pay attention to the buildings. We will start the restoration once the dungeon has been taken care of."

Lynn told me as we walked toward the dungeon.

Due to the nature of the dungeon and the dungeon energy being emitted, the surrounding buildings had started to crack.

Our café was far enough not to get affected, but it wouldn’t be long before it came into the range of getting affected as well.

I needed to take care of the dungeon before that happened... or else...

"Boss, you are back. We were sending the next team... who’s that... no way-! Is that... Ace?"

Someone walked toward us to give us the details before they looked at my mask and recognized me at first glance.

Due to that, everyone turned to look at us, and hunters gasped all around as they saw me standing beside Lynn. Many of them were pointing and speaking at the same time.

The most common phrases I heard were that I looked less bulky and younger overall than they imagined... not that they could see my face or tell what my real age was.

"You are-! Pay attention here because I will say this just once. This is Ace... yes, the real Ace and not the stand-in by the association. How and where I met him—that’s not important. And you all are not allowed to approach him for any reason."

Lynn laid down the rules, and there were a lot of whines from a lot of people.

Disappointed glances were shot my way, but I pretended I did not see them. After all, it was not my job to console them or speak to them.

"A lot of you seem to have a problem with what I just said. Why don’t you challenge me for my authority if that’s the case?"

Lynn asked, and most hunters immediately backed off. They could tell that Lynn was serious in his threat.

There was only one hunter that stepped forward, and I vaguely recognized him.

"Aww, don’t be that stiff, Lynn. Let a senior like me have a chance to talk to Ace as well. After all, I’m sure I have known him for longer than you."

Edward Nigram was a familiar face to me.

He had certainly aged 10 years since I last saw him, and his alpha scent was just as strong as last time.

The last time I had seen him, he had just been married and had a kid on the way. That was why I took him out of the final dungeon team.

I did not want his family to lose him at such a crucial point in their lives.

"Edward, it’s certainly been some time since we last met. How’s the wife and kid doing?"

I asked him, and the alpha let out a startled laugh. But darkness and despair filled his eyes as he looked away.

"Well, she got a divorce from me. She said she could not handle how busy I was as a top hunter all the time. She took the kid with her since she did not want the kid to feel neglected while I was out and about."

The hunter told me, and he tried to laugh his misery off.

I truly felt sorry for him, but it was not like his case was too new or unique.

Hunters had been rare during the time 10 years ago, and to find a match with another hunter was unheard of.

But hunters also had a huge responsibility toward the public, causing them to become too busy for their family and such.

So the divorce rates between hunters and normal couples skyrocketed. Even a top hunter like Edward did not seem to be immune to this.

’Then again, I can understand. Theo was less than happy to see me head out as well... not that we are a couple or anything.’

I quickly corrected my mind before it could head down that route.

"Old man, you should have paid more attention to your wife when you had the chance to. Learn something from Lee Minho. Didn’t he waste a whole month not taking any calls from us because he wanted to be with the new omega he was infatuated with?"

Lynn joked, only to dodge the knife thrown by the said man.

"Fuck you-! It was not like that. I just... wanted to strengthen my bond with that omega, but she told me to go back to work. And when I did, she complained that I was not spending enough time with her and broke things off."

Lee Minho complained from the other side of the clearing.

His eyes met mine, and the alpha looked away first.

Silence filled the clearing once Lee Minho declared what happened, and I felt like someone needed to speak up.

Thankfully, someone did speak up. But it was a new face I knew nothing about.

"Well, if someone were to become my lover, I would never neglect them and always make sure they knew I loved them. Communication is the key in a relationship after all."

The beta female spoke up with confidence and took a step toward Lynn. But Lynn just stepped away from her and toward my side.

"Then you should get a lover as well, Jun. Maybe a nice beta... or even an omega would suit you. An alpha would just clash too much with your personality. How about it? Do you want me to introduce some to you?"

Lynn asked, and Jun clenched her jaw in anger and annoyance.

She clearly had another meaning behind her words, but Lynn pretended he did not understand what she wanted from him.

Jun turned her glare toward me next, but she was not able to maintain the eye contact for long before giving up and looking down once more.

"I will be heading to the dungeon alone first. I need to check a few things out. Those who want to follow can follow once I signal for you to enter."

I told everyone, and there was a cry of outrage at my words.

"No way-! We cannot send someone in there alone."

"That’s not what the protocol tells us to do—"

"How can we—"

The voices overlapped each other, and I felt a small headache developing. This would have never happened back in my days.

My tipping point came quicker than I expected, and I raised my voice.

"You all better fucking listen to me because I will only say this once. I do not have time to babysit you all. So you either need to sit quietly and follow my words or get knocked out by me. Which would you prefer?"

I gave the choice to the hunters, and they all quickly looked around in shocked worry.

None of these people wanted to deal with me but were eager to get their word in.

"Alright. Now that we have cleared the air up, I would like to head out now. Message me if it’s anything important through the community channel. I will keep an eye on it."

I told all the hunters before I headed toward the dungeon door.

A small push, and I had entered the dungeon for the first time.
