The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 76: It is over - II
As we were walking away, barely a footstep or two away we were when the girl cried out suddenly and I jumped up. I instantly looked in that direction again. "What happened? She in pain?" I hurriedly whispered looking at Merilyn. I had no idea about this which meant that I did not know if the girl was enjoying it or not. I frowned, had she consented to it? It did sound like pleasure though.
Merilyn sighed, "They are," she stood on her toes and watched for a few moments just as I did and because of which my blushing did not cease. She then nodded thoughtfully. "Ah, yes. She is enjoying it. Maybe she is his wife or just a lover perhaps." she then grinned all of a sudden, "Or perhaps it is an affair! How scandalous!" She clapped her hands slightly.
I chuckled at her enthusiasm. "You have been too free to care about such rumors. Should I give you more work to do?"
She gasped and shook her head aggressively. "No no, I have so much to do as it is. I cannot handle anything more!"
I glanced at them again and they were still at it. The boy was quite young which explains how he was able to keep such a fast and steady pace. My cheeks were still heating up as a realized what I was witnessing. The length of him was visible as he went. . .
I shook my head, turned around and started to walk away back into the palace.
"Merilyn," I spoke up after some time as we were walking from the people caring out their passionate acts in the bushes, "are these . . . acts not meant for the bedroom?" By my governess, I had been told strictly that this was only reserved for the bedroom and that no man, except a eunuch, should see any skin on me uncovered.
She giggled; it was entertaining for her to see me flustered. "Well, they are if you find a bedroom. Otherwise, bushes or small spaces are preferred." She shrugged, "It happens a lot at our palace too. Especially at night."
Huh, I thought, I must increase the security then.
"There," Merilyn pointed to the door to the servants quarters, "We have arr—"
"What do you mean?" we heard a harsh whisper and immediately moved to the side. The dark would cover us for now. They could not discover us!
"The crowned prince will need more tending to do! He is the next king, get a better healer!" He whisper yelled, probably weary of who might be listening.
"But the only one we have now is one of great capabilities! We only have him who is capable of fixing him." The other voice whispered. He was scared of the first person speaking. "If I have to get someone better than him then we have to acquire new skills from different countries and that would raise suspicions!"
Merilyn and I exchanged a look. What was this about? It was clear that if they wanted better healers and the men had raised a thought about getting them from different countries which meant that for sure there was a member of the royal family who was severely injured, so much that they had to get a healer from outside their country.
"He cannot die." The man growled out. "The whole world would laugh at us. The queen is unstable as a great loss is about to come. We must do something. Prince Lysar taking the throne is the last option we have." He sighed then, as if very tired from this all. "He does not think and now, with his infatuation with that princess of Melenmore, it will only add to our mountain of problems."
"But what is the problem with that? Only a few have seen her and she has the beauty bestowed by her mother along with the kindness of a princess in her. She is no brat; would she not bring stability to the prince?"
I felt a shiver run down my spine. The prince, it all meant, had told them about me. Had he told them that I was here? Nevertheless, I enjoyed the praises sent my way behind my back.
He snorted. "The girl is bethroed to the future king of Atria. Melenmore depends upon it. Even if we have them break it, the risk of war and bad relations would dangle on our heads like a sword." He tsked, "Given that we also have the problem of the creatures of the night, we might end up needing outer forces of the kingdoms to deal with it."
Now it got interesting. Such information could not be gathered at the hands of spice because only a few reached the ministers and to the frustrated men of the king which meant that these two must have had the post of higher officials.
Much to my displeasure, these men stayed quiet for a while, maybe lost in their thoughts.
"the future king might die because of those dark creatures," he sighed, "we were warned to not let him go after them. Somewhere or the other it is our fault as well. It is our incompetence that has lost us a good and great king."
What? My eyes widened from the news. Prince Thomas was going to die? But that completely makes sense to how the health of the queen was suffering as well. Because the thought of losing a child, especially a firstborn, did affect the mother.
"The wounds are too severe. He might not even make it tonight." The second one added, "The healer cannot try anymore. It is done; whatever he could do is done."
The first one gave a long sigh, "Let us go. The king would call for us soon anyway, better not annoy him further."
We pressed ourselves even more against the wall and thankfully, the two did not pay us enough attention and left making me and Merilyn hurry to the doors and into our rooms.
I sighed and headed as soon as I stepped into the room. Finally, I breathed in relief. Merilyn closed the door behind her and leaned her back against it, tired and breathing heavily herself.
"I thought we were almost caught!" she cried and covered her face with her hands. "This night must be cursed for us."
"Yes, I am sure someone on a random basis chose to curse this night." I could not help myself with the mockery and she made a face at that.
"Water?" she asked instead and I nodded. It was very much needed.
The prince, if I went according to their theories, was going to die soon. His condition was so severe that he could not even make it through tonight, which would mean that the second crowned prince would be the next king. From what I had heard by Estelle and the ministers, the first prince, Prince Thomas was an intelligent prince; who usually thought through the consequences.
I took the glass from Merilyn and sipped it carefully as the line of my thoughts continued.
He was not at all pampered as compared to his siblings. And not to forget, he was attacked and put into this condition by the very creatures the second prince had told me about. I frowned, was this why Lysar had come to my kingdom and demanded an audience with me that night in urgency?
It would make sense, I sighed. It would make complete sense. He wanted to warn me about the creatures of the night but he would do that as a king did not make any sense, because at the end of the day kings of another country did not have to explain themselves to anyone else.
"What if the prince Lysar becomes the new king?" Merilyn mumbled as she stared above the ceiling like me, thinking about what we had just known. "Would he try to break the alliance?"
I sucked in cheeks thoughtfully before answering, "He has the strength too. He can give us what we want and win the war." I think before revealing this information to her, it might not be known to her even as a rumor.
"I think the king might agree for his demand to marry you." She got up and whispered in slight excitement making me want to know more. "I heard that the king here was fascinated by your mother but she was too young so he had to choose someone else," she bit her lip and looked at me shyly. "but those are just rumors." She whispered sweetly at the end.
I continued staring at her with slightly narrowed eyes and she looked at me with those big ones. She blinked twice. She wanted me to confirm it and it was true.
"Merilyn?" I sweetly called her and she hummed, "Cease that immediately!" I said with narrowed eyes that I was not sure if she could see. "It is true, yes, that did happen."
She blinked in shock and nodded, "Really? That is shocking, none of us at the palace believed it, especially after your mother’s ladies in waiting denied it repeatedly." She whispered before we both jumped up at the loud knocking on the door.
I immediately stood up and stared at the door. Had those men seen us? I gulped as they pounded on the door with brute force making my heart beat faster than ever.
