Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Academy Newbie Secret Realm, Slaying Goblins

Flynn smoothly activated the teleportation array by placing two crystal cores into it. The lights flashed, and the portal instantly sprang to life.

Without wasting any words, Allen and Lilia stepped into the array and vanished immediately.

A sudden feeling of weightlessness hit them, and the world around them twisted and changed.

Soon, the dizzying sensation faded, and the two found themselves in a dense jungle.

"Hey, how about we team up?" Lilia hesitated, then spoke up. "I’ll handle the weak monsters, and you can only step in when you face the strong ones."

Even though she looked down on Allen, they were classmates, and she didn’t want to see him die.

Allen was busy looking around curiously. Hearing her offer, he shook his head without hesitation to refuse. "No thanks. Let’s split up. The forest ahead is yours, and the one behind is mine."

His plan was to slaughter every monster in the secret realm. Their crystal cores and materials from their bodies could all be sold for money.

Old Dean wanted to trick him? Fine, he would make sure the old bastard lost out.

Slaughtering these monsters would not only bring him a lot of gold, but it would also stop other students from leveling up.

To graduate, students had to reach Stage 1, Level 5. Otherwise, they couldn’t graduate.

Since the school’s graduation rate affected its ranking and teaching resources, it mattered a lot.

Even if Allen did well in the academy tournament, if the graduation rate didn’t meet the standards, he wouldn’t get much resource reward anyway.

"Hey, don’t be ungrateful! I’m doing this for your own good!" Lilia snapped angrily. She was the academy’s most beautiful girl; so many boys usually fawned over her and begged to team up with her.

But now, she was personally offering, and this idiot actually refused it without any hesitation at all.

"I appreciate the kindness, but I really don’t need it," Allen said, not even bothering to waste more words. He turned and walked straight into the dense forest behind him.

"Idiot!" Lilia stamped her foot in anger, shouting, "Just wait until you beg me to team up, and I won’t even agree!"

"Hmph!"

She let out a cold snort and stepped into the trees on the other side.

The forest was quiet, with the occasional clear bird call echoing around.

Allen strolled through the woods with a confident swagger, acting like he was just out for a casual walk.

He had already investigated, and the monsters in the Academy Newbie Secret Realm were goblins. These guys were weak; the strongest among them were only at Stage 1, Level 3. He could handle them easily.

"Intruder!"

Suddenly, a angry shout rang out. Two green monsters burst out from the bushes nearby. They were small, looked fierce, held long spears, and snapped their teeth like crazy beasts.

"I was looking exactly for you!" Allen’s eyes lit up. He raised his hand, and a huge fireball roared out.

Boom!

A deafening roar shook the air, flames flew everywhere. The two goblins were swallowed by the fire in an instant, turning to ash.

[You killed a Stage 1, Level 1 goblin minion. Experience +10]

[You killed a Stage 1, Level 1 goblin minion. Experience +10]

Two notification messages flashed. Allen gained 20 experience points right away.

"Is that it? Instant kill?" He felt like he was using a cannon to shoot mosquitoes. Using a Forbidden Spell on these goblins was a bit of a waste.

Among the ashes, two gray crystals remained. They were crystal cores.

The crystal core of a Stage 1, Level 1 monster was worth 10 gold coins. That wasn’t bad.

Allen happily tucked them into his chest and kept moving forward.

As he went deeper into the forest, there were more and more goblins, and they grew stronger too. They evolved from Stage 1, Level 1 goblin minions up to Stage 1, Level 3 goblin soldiers.

But in front of Allen, they were still taken down with just one Forbidden Spell.

[You have leveled up to Stage 1, Level 2. Four basic attributes increased by +30 points. Free attribute points: +4]

The notification flashed. Allen had reached Stage 1, Level 2. A powerful surge of energy rushed through his body, making his strength more than double.

"It actually gave me +30 points in base stats straight away!"

Allen was thrilled. He remembered that even for an A-rank Class Awakened, leveling up by one would only add about 6 points to each of the four main stats.

So, the higher the class tier, the stronger the power. As levels kept rising, the gap would only get bigger and bigger.

Allen happily gathered the loot and kept moving forward.

It had only been a few minutes since he started, and he had already reached level 1. If this pace continued, he could hit Stage 1, Level 10 in no time.

Of course, that depended on there being enough goblins.

"If the worst comes to worst, I’ll finish the goblins here and move into Lilia’s zone," Allen muttered to himself. He wasn’t going to actually let her have that area. Besides, with her current strength, she wouldn’t be able to kill that many goblins anyway.

[You have leveled up to Stage 1, Level 3. Four basic attributes increased by +30 points. Free attribute points: +4]

Soon, Allen leveled up again. Note that because his level was now higher than the enemies, killing lower-level monsters no longer gave him experience. If that weren’t the case, he would be leveling up even faster.

But now he faced a new problem.

"I don’t think I can carry all of these crystal cores," Allen said, having already taken off his jacket to use as a makeshift bag, slung over his shoulder.

The bag was already stuffed to the brim with goblin crystal cores.

"What a bother. I wish I had a space-storage item," Allen sighed. Items that could store space were extremely rare, and even if you had money, you might not be able to buy one.

I wonder if Lilia has one?

Allen thought of her. After finishing off the goblins here, he’d go ask that girl.

"Hurry! That intruder is right here! Catch him and sacrifice him to the Goblin King!"

Suddenly, a angry shout rang out from the forest, accompanied by the sound of clattering feet. A group of slightly larger goblins burst out, over a hundred of them.

Allen’s eyes lit up. They were Stage 1, Level 5 goblin warriors.

The goblins noticed him too. Waving their spears, they let out roars and charged forward.

"Perfect!" Allen cheered. Fireballs and wind blades flew out one after another, as if he had an endless supply.

Boom... boom...

The forest echoed with explosions and the goblins’ dying screams.

An army of a hundred goblins turned to ash in an instant.

Allen’s level shot straight up to Stage 1, Level 5.

He checked his lifespan value. In just this short time, he had already used up more than seven years of it.

Luckily, this lifespan could recover slowly, so he had no worries at all.

The roaring flames finally died out. The goblin corpses turned to ash, leaving only a field of crystal cores behind.

Allen cheerfully walked forward to gather the loot.

"Tch, there’s not even any challenge here," he couldn’t help but sigh, feeling bored.

With his current power, he could easily one-shot someone like Mason with just a single Fireball.

His bag was already stuffed to the limit. He had no choice but to drop the crystal cores of the Stage 1, Level 1 goblin minions and pick up the cores from the higher-level goblins instead.

He kept moving deeper into the forest. In less than half a day, he had cleared this entire area of goblins.

Allen’s level had only reached Stage 1, Level 7. It wasn’t because he lacked power, but because the goblins here were too weak.

The only ones powerful enough were two Stage 1, Level 10 goblin elites. The rest were just minions and soldiers.

"There shouldn’t be this few goblins here. Are they all in Lilia’s zone?" Allen frowned, his brow furrowed. He quickly gathered the remaining loot and turned toward the dense forest where Lilia was.

...

"Capture this human alive! I want to sacrifice her to the Goblin King!"

In a narrow canyon, roars and shouts echoed endlessly. The place was packed with goblins. Even the weakest ones were goblin soldiers, and there were quite a few Stage 1, Level 10 goblin elites among them.

Lilia was currently backed up against a giant boulder. She swung her long spear wildly, knocking away every goblin that tried to climb up to her.

Her face was pale, and there was no hint of joy in her eyes.

There were too many goblins here, and they were too strong. She couldn’t break through their lines. If she got trapped, she would surely die from exhaustion.

"Oh no, my medicine!" Lilia cried out. She moved too quickly, and a porcelain bottle in her bosom fell to the ground. It shattered under the feet of the madly charging goblin army.

It’s over!

Lilia was completely desperate now. That bottle contained a potion crafted by her father and Simon. It was designed to suppress the mysterious power inside her body. Without it, she would be in serious danger of dying.

At this moment, she couldn’t help but think of Allen.

If that idiot was here, with his powerful Forbidden Spell, he could definitely help her carve a bloody path out and escape.

"Hey, do you need some help?"

Just as Lilia was sinking into despair, a teasing voice rang out.

In the distance, a figure approached, striding forward with a huge bag on his back.

It was Allen!

Lilia felt a mix of shock and anger.

She was about to die, and this idiot was acting like he was just taking a leisurely stroll.
