Chapter 340: Have You Two Been Intimate Recently?

"However, you might want to fix your hair. It looks like you’ve been... busy."

Lauren’s cheeks flushed crimson, but her eyes narrowed in irritation.

Sensing the growing hostility, Steffan stepped forward, placing himself slightly between the two women.

"Dolly, was there something you needed?" he asked, his voice calm but firm, trying to defuse the situation. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Dolly’s eyes flicked to him, her expression softening slightly. "Actually, yes. I needed to discuss some patient’s file with you before I leave, but I can see you’re... occupied," she said, her tone still laced with sarcasm.

Lauren crossed her arms and tilted her head slightly. "Well, as you can see, Dolly, we’re in the middle of something. So if you don’t mind, maybe you can discuss those files later," she said, her voice dripping with irritation.

Dolly’s eyes flashed with anger, but she maintained her composure. She can’t afford to be careless and raise Steffan’s guard against her. It would be detrimental to her plans if he found out she was jealous and started putting two and two together.

"I would have loved to wait," she said coolly. "But it’s rather urgent."

Steffan sighed, feeling the tension between the two women. "Lauren, maybe we should finish our conversation later," he suggested gently.

Lauren huffed but nodded, satisfied with the way things had turned out. In a way she was grateful to the meddling Dolly, who had unknowingly helped her stall for more time to discuss with Dr Sullivan before her next meeting with Steffan.

But before she left, she still shot Dolly a withering look. "Fine. But we’re not done talking, Steffan." And with that, she brushed past Dolly, giving her a final glare before exiting the room.

Dolly watched her leave, a smug smile playing on her lips. ’You can be proud all you want for now but I still get to spend more time with him everyday than you.’

Tearing his eyes away from the closed door, Steffan turned to Dolly. "What’s so urgent, Dolly?" he asked, trying to keep his tone neutral.

Dolly stepped closer, her demeanor softening. "I’m sorry, Steffan. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble. It’s just... I’ve been worried about you."

Steffan’s brows creased. "What for?"

"When I thought about how your last crisis was caused by her, I was worried seeing you cooped in here for so long with her and I wanted to be sure you were alright," she explained.

Steffan sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I appreciate your concern, Dolly, but I can handle myself. Now, what’s this about the patient files?"

Dolly handed him a folder, her fingers brushing his as she did. "It’s just some updates on some of the current cases. I thought you should be aware."

Steffan took the folder, nodding. "Thanks. I’ll look over these."

Dolly lingered for a moment, her eyes searching Steffan’s. "If you ever need to talk, Steffan, you know I’m always available as your buddy, right?"

Steffan gave her a tight smile. "I appreciate it, Dolly. Really, I do."

With that, he turned his attention to the files, and Dolly, sensing she had pushed enough for now, gave him a nod and left the room.

As the door closed behind her, Steffan couldn’t shake off the uneasy feeling that Dolly was beginning to act strange. Shouldn’t Dr Sullivan be the one to call his attention to this?

Meanwhile at Dr Sullivan’s office, Lauren was seated in the mini reception, waiting for the older doctor to finish his consultation with a patient.

After the patient walked out, she was asked to go in.

"Lauren, it’s so good to see you. How have you been?"

"I’ve been doing great, Doctor, and you?" Lauren smiled as she took her seat across from Dr Sullivan.

"I’m fine. Are you here to see Steffan? He resumed today, you know? But I guess you already know about that," he said as he adjusted the gold-rimmed glasses on his face.

"I actually came to the hospital to see a friend who is on admission and only found out a few minutes ago that Steffan resumed today," Lauren said.

"Oh, so how are things between you two? Any progress?"

"So so," Lauren said nonchalantly but the doctor still saw the slight redness at the tip of her ears.

"Have you seen him recently and want to know whether it is the right time to open up about your relationship?"

Lauren nodded. It was getting more difficult to resist the pressure Steffan was mounting on her. She was sure one of these days she wouldn’t be able to hold it in any longer. Especially now that Steffan seemed to have developed a special new hobby of always kissing her at any least opportunity he finds.

"Have you two been intimate recently?" Dr Sullivan asked again, taking in the slight changes in the woman’s thoughts which was clearly written on her face.

This time Lauren could not control the blush that spread over her face, giving Dr Sullivan the answer he needed.

"Just a few kisses," Lauren quickly clarified before the doctor will start thinking too much.

"I see. And did he give any sign that he was remembering something? I mean, did he act in any way that suggests he recalled something?"

"Unfortunately, no, but he asked me again what our past relationship was and slyly if I wanted to be his girlfriend in the past which I denied."

"Of course you were not just a girlfriend. You should have been Mrs Rosse by now if not for that unfortunate incident," Dr Sullivan said regrettably.

Then a slight crease formed on his forehead as his mind went back to the discussion at hand. It didn’t sound like Steffan recalled something.

"What led to him asking if you wanted to be his girlfriend in the past?"

"Actually he told me before that he felt differently when it comes to me as he never remembered having feelings for other women in the past and he couldn’t explain what was happening with him," Lauren reported.

Dr Sullivan nodded in agreement. All the years he had known Steffan, he had kept himself away from all women and only maintained a professional relationship with them except the time when he fell hopelessly in love with his best friend’s wife, which happened to be his first time, the next person he ever loved was Lauren.’

"How long can we continue keeping it away from him, he’s becoming more desperate by the day and I don’t think I can hold out much longer if he continues like this," Lauren revealed her earlier thoughts.

"He kept on insisting that he can handle it but when I remembered what happened the last time that I took the initiative to kiss him, I got scared."

"But you kissed each other again after that incident."

"Yeah, actually twice but he was the one that initiated it those two times," Lauren confessed.

"And how did he react after the kiss?"

"He was normal and didn’t have any negative reaction," Lauren said. "He even teased me afterwards," Lauren added and the redness on her face became more pronounced.

After thinking for a while, Dr Sullivan said, "I think he can handle it, but we have to let him in on it gradually."
