Chapter 341: Men Can’t Handle Jealousy For Long

After thinking for a while, Dr Sullivan said, "I think he can handle it, but we have to let him in on it gradually."

"Are you sure about that?" Lauren asked and regretted it as soon as the words came out.

"Mm-hmm," Dr Sullivan nodded, clearly not offended by Lauren’s question. "But it appears you are not happy hearing that," Dr Sullivan observed.

"I’m happy to hear that, but the thing is that..." Lauren paused but continued after Dr Sullivan urged her on.

"I wanted to see if he can fall in love with me all over again even without me reminding him of our past together," Lauren confessed.

After a brief silence, Dr Sullivan took his time before asking, "Are you feeling insecure? That he might not love you the way he used to without those memories?"

Was that really her fears? Now that Dr Sullivan mentioned it, that seemed to be the case. Initially she had started it as a game but as time went by, she decided to test Steffan’s promise which he had made to her on the one year anniversary of their relationship.

"I think you’re right," Lauren finally gave her answer to the doctor who had been patiently waiting for her to finish processing things in her mind.

"Can I tell you something? The Steffan I know will not give you any reason to doubt his love. Once he sets his mind to love someone, he goes all out, except something happens to change that."

"And I bet he has already fallen for you from what you have said. I can say without mincing words that his love for you never waned even though he can’t remember you, which explains why he’s been so free around you."

"No matter how close he is to someone he will never take the initiative to get intimate with that person like he’s been doing with you."

"So what do you advise, doctor?"

"To satisfy your curiosity you can go ahead but I’ll warn you not to overdo it. Men can’t handle jealousy for long, so be careful how you play your game."

"Jealousy? How do you know I plan to make him jealous?" Lauren asked in disbelief.

"It just so happened that some friends bundled me from my office for lunch last weekend," Dr Sullivan hinted and didn’t go any further.

Lauren’s eyes widened inexplicably like two saucers. "Were you also at The Masters Place last weekend?"

Her face spasmed when she remembered how she had been all over George just to make Steffan jealous that day.

She had succeeded, no doubt but didn’t know she had an extra audience and it was someone she held in high esteem and wanted to always have the best opinion about her.

Considering how bitchy she had acted that day, she didn’t know how to hide her face.

"I’m... I..."

"No need to be embarrassed, I do understand," the older Doctor waved off her attempt to explain nonchalantly. "Just be careful and don’t overdo it so it doesn’t backfire," he advised again.

"Yes, yes," Lauren quickly agreed. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Just when Lauren didn’t know how to excuse herself, Doctor Sullivan helped her out.

"I think I’m done with this patient and would love to see other patients,’ he joked.

"Thanks so much for your time, doc. I’ll follow your advice and do as you’ve said," Lauren said stood to her feet.

"Alright, and do take care of yourself," he said before pressing the bell for the next patient to come in.

While Lauren was leaving Dr Sullivan’s office in Medstar hospital, at the same time, Benita was being escorted from another hospital by two non uniform policemen to the Central District Police Station.

Before getting into the police van, she made sure that her father was also ready in his car.

As they drove off, she didn’t fail to look Jack every now and then to ensure that her father’s car was following closely behind.

After the last time that she was taken away by a supposedly police van to an unknown destination, she had stopped trusting those police officers even if Commissioner Randy had been doing all he could to erase that memory.

"I’ll come and see you as often as I can every day. And don’t be scared about anything. Randy will see to your safety. Nobody will be able to touch you," Ivan comforted Benita.

She nodded sadly, and turned around to follow the officers that were waiting to escort her to her cell.

"I’ll see you later, child. Listen to what your father has said and don’t be scared," her mother, Rhoda Dawson added.

Benita nodded and followed the officer away.

"Hmmph..." Rhoda drew in a deep breath and exhaled slowly in frustration.

"She’ll be fine. We’ll find a way to get her out soon," Ivan consoled his wife.

"How? Up till now there’s been no good news from the private detective we hired," Rhoda complained.

"That’s what I want to see Randy about. You’ll head home first while I see Randy."

"Alright. But please put pressure on him to hurry up. I can’t bear to see our daughter in such a poor condition everyday."

Ivan followed her to the car and did not leave until after the car had left the police station.

He released a deep sigh as he settled himself on the chair, running a hand through his hair, looking older than his fifty five years.

"What’s the report from your own end? Any progress?" he asked.

"We’re still waiting for the prime suspect to return back to the country and I’ve been able to push forward the hearing of the case till we have concrete evidence that your daughter is innocent," Randy explained

"Luckily the victim has been able to pull through, but your daughter’s offense is not something that can be ignored as it is a criminal offense."

"Please go straight to the point," Ivan said impatiently.

"What he means is that even if we don’t want to press charges for the despicable thing Benita did, it doesn’t mean my brother’s fiancé would let it go, afterall, the target was her and not Steffan."

"And I might need to remind you that she happens to be friends with the renowned Cheryl Moore who has never lost any lawsuit, so you will need an extremely good lawyer, one that can defeat her in court to get your daughter out."

The two men turned around to the door.

"Stanley?" Ivan mumbled in disbelief. This was the first time he was seeing a member of the Rosse’s family after the incident.

"But she didn’t..."

"Load the gun and only wanted to threaten her," Stanley completely. "That’s just hearsay. You need evidence to prove that someone else tampered with the gun."

"You are a high government official and things like this shouldn’t be strange to you. I believe you can use your resources to get yourself a good lawyer, Sir," he finished almost on a sarcastic note.

Silence settled around the three men and for some time, none of them said anything.

The silence was eventually broken by a knock on the door and Killian strolled in like the king of the jungle.
