[BL] The Mafia Boss Wants My Body-Chapter 45: When Love Turns Possessive
"Tony, what are you talking about?" Adrian asked, his heart sinking.
Before Tony could answer, the heavy sound of Matteo’s footsteps echoed in the corridor. Tony stood up instantly, capping his water bottle and disappearing through the side exit just as Matteo walked back into the room.
Adrian was still staring at the empty chair across from him, his expression clouded with confusion, when Matteo approached the table.
"Everything okay?" Matteo asked, his gaze fixed on Adrian, picking up the shift in his expression.
"Yes," Adrian said quickly, forcing a small smile. "Everything is fine."
Matteo didn’t press him, though he lingered a second longer than usual. "I have some business to handle later," he said, reaching out to adjust a stray lock of Adrian’s hair. "I’ll be back late. Don’t wait up for me, okay?"
Adrian rolled his eyes. "Why would I wait up for you, exactly?"
"Because I’m your man," Matteo replied, his voice dropping into that low, possessive rumble.
"You’re not my man," Adrian shot back.
Matteo watched him, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. "You’ll admit it one day."
"Whatever," Adrian muttered, turning back to his plate. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
A heavy silence settled between them. Matteo didn’t touch his food. He just sat there, his gaze fixed on Adrian with a quiet intensity that made Adrian look up.
"Why aren’t you eating?" Adrian asked. "Is something wrong?"
"I want to talk to you about something," Matteo said, his tone turning serious. "But I don’t know if you’re ready to talk about it with me."
Adrian slowly set his fork down, the soft clink against the plate breaking the silence. "What is it?"
"It’s about your eyes, Rian," Matteo said, leaning forward.
Adrian’s brow furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean? What about my eyes?"
"I’ve wanted to bring this up for a while, but I wasn’t sure how you’d feel," Matteo started, his eyes searching Adrian’s. "I think we should find a specialist. A doctor who focuses specifically on this."
He paused, choosing his words carefully. "First... let me ask. What exactly caused it? The night blindness?"
"It was the accident," Adrian said quietly, his gaze dropping to the table. "The one with my family. I didn’t even realize it at first until one night, the lights went out... and I couldn’t see anything."
"Have you seen a doctor about it?" Matteo asked. "Any tests? What did they say... about treatment? Surgery?"
"I have," Adrian admitted. "My doctor said there are options, but I’ve just... been taking my time. It’s a lot to process."
Matteo reached across the table. "I have a close friend who is one of the best eye surgeons in the country. We should go see him. I just... I felt so bad for you last night, Rian. I hate seeing you that scared."
Adrian’s expression shifted, a flash of defensiveness crossing his face. "You feel bad for me? Because I’m ’broken’? Are you ashamed to be with someone who can’t see in the dark?"
"No," Matteo said immediately, shaking his head. "Don’t twist it like that."
His voice lowered.
"I’m not ashamed of you. Not even close."
He held Adrian’s gaze.
"I just want you to live without that fear. I saw it last night... and I hated it."
He leaned in closer, his voice intense. "Listen to me. I love you, Adrian. I don’t care if you can see or not. To me, you are perfect. I just want the best for you."
Adrian looked at him for a long beat, his posture softening. "I’m not completely blind, Matteo. You need to know that."
"I know you not," Matteo sighed, realizing he was pushing too hard. "Okay, fine. We don’t have to talk about it now. Let’s just talk about something else."
At that moment, the heavy doors swung open. Mark, Tony, and the rest of the crew spilled into the dining room, still breathless and sweaty from the gym. Some headed straight for the fridge for water, while others pulled out chairs for breakfast.
Matteo stood up and moved his chair. Instead of sitting across from Adrian, he took the seat right beside him, his shoulder brushing against Adrian’s in a quiet show of support.
Charles and Frank came over and sat beside Adrian, settling in next to him.
"Don’t you guys need to shower before you eat?" Adrian asked, glancing at them.
Frank chuckled. "We already did. The gym has a shower."
Charles nodded. "Yeah. This is just a quick breakfast. We’ll clean up properly later."
Frank chuckled. "We already did. The gym has a shower."
Charles nodded. "Yeah. This is just a quick breakfast. We’ll clean up properly later."
The maid began serving the food.
Everyone settled in.
Matteo spoke briefly with Mark, while Adrian picked at his plate, having already eaten most of his breakfast. He passed the time chatting with Frank and Charles while Matteo was on his phone.
Suddenly, Adrian’s phone buzzed with a video call. He glanced at the screen and smiled. "It’s my sister, Maya."
He answered right away. "Hey, sis!"
Maya’s face appeared on the screen. "Hey, bro!"
She grinned. "Guess who’s here with me."
Adrian let out a small laugh. "Sis, I can’t guess right now."
Maya tilted the phone slightly. "Where are you? I was planning to come by your place later today—with Iris."
Before Adrian could answer, Iris jumped into the frame, waving energetically. "Hi, Adrian! How are you? Wait, where are you? This place looks beautiful!"
Adrian tilted the camera to show Frank and Charles. "I’m out with my friends for a bit."
"Listen," Iris went on, her voice bright with excitement. "I’ve been planning something big for your birthday. I’ve got this whole party planned, a great location and everything."
Adrian felt the shift beside him. Matteo had gone completely still, his gaze fixed on the phone screen. His expression darkened, that familiar edge of jealousy settling in.
"I’m not sure I’ll be back in time," Adrian said, trying to stay casual.
"Oh, come on!" Iris insisted. "Just give me the address of where you are."
Adrian glanced at Matteo, then reached for his hand under the table, his thumb brushing slowly over the back of it in a quiet attempt to calm him.
"It’s a long drive, Iris. It would be too much stress for you to come all this way," Adrian said.
Frank and Charles, sensing the shift in Matteo’s mood, started making subtle "end the call" gestures behind the phone. But Iris kept talking, her words drifting into how much she missed him and how they were "meant" to celebrate together.
Matteo couldn’t take it anymore. He pushed his chair back abruptly, the legs scraping loudly against the floor as he started to stand.
Adrian reacted quickly, turning the phone toward his friends. "Talk to them for a second!"
He caught Matteo’s arm. "Sit down," Adrian said softly.
Matteo looked down at him, irritation flashing in his eyes, but he slowly lowered himself back into the chair. Adrian tightened his hold on his hand.
"Iris, look, I have to go," Adrian said into the phone. "I have things to do. I’ll call you later, okay? Bye."
He ended the call before she could protest. The table was silent. Mark, Tony, and the guards were all watching the exchange with wide eyes.
Adrian turned to Matteo. "What was that? Why were you going to storm off?"
"Why are you talking to another woman while I’m sitting right here?" Matteo demanded.
"She’s not ’another woman,’ she’s a friend," Adrian said.
"A friend who wants to be more," Matteo snapped. "I want to go out. I need to make a call."
"You aren’t making any calls," Adrian said, holding him in place. "Sit down. Not now."
Matteo stayed where he was, tension coiled in his body like something barely held back.
Adrian leaned in closer so only he could hear. "Seriously, she’s just a friend. You trust me, right?"
Matteo held his gaze for a long moment, the tension in him easing just slightly. "Fine," he muttered. "But I want to go inside."
Adrian smiled and held out his hand. Matteo took it, and they stood up together, leaving the dining room and heading back toward their bedroom.
As soon as they were out of earshot, Mark’s girlfriend leaned toward him, her eyes wide. "Is that really your brother? Did you switch him when I wasn’t looking? I’ve never seen him that... calm."
Mark let out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. "It’s the same guy. He’s just in love... and he finally found someone who can handle him."
"Wow," she said softly, still staring after them. "That’s hard to believe."
