Chapter 70: Lennox Qin’s Bride (2)

Adrienne rubbed her temple. Myrtle knew her well. It was impossible to deny it anymore.

"I’m sorry, Myrtle. I didn’t mean to lie to you, but since you know, then I admit I’ll be Lennox’s bride in the future. Of course, this is only a precaution. Since I have reached the legal age, father will surely try to sell me off in the guise of marriage."

Myrtle was suddenly horrified, while Lennox looked at Adrienne with a blank look. It was hard for Adrienne to fathom what he was thinking.

"So this is why I agreed to marry him. When the time comes, I will be unavailable for him to do anything. Instead of gaining money from selling me, he’ll be paying his debts with a hefty interest."

This was why she needed to raise funds. Adrienne wasn’t planning to ask Lennox to use his money in order to marry her. In her previous life, Alistair Han had to invest one billion in Jiang Corporation before he could marry her. Since he was the highest bidder, her father eventually agreed to give him her hand in marriage. Adrienne felt insulted back then, but this time, she would make sure she was the one who would have the last laugh.

"Oh, Addie..." Myrtle engulfed Adrienne in a tight hug. "I never knew they were harboring such ideas towards you."

Adrienne patted her friend’s back and pulled away.

"Anyway, what brings you here?"

Myrtle shrugged. "I’m just curious about who this Lennox Qin you and Gavin were talking about. Can’t help but be curious. Anyway, the Han family notified me to attend your grandpa’s banquet. I’m really pissed, Addie! I don’t want to see my brother’s face!"

A flash of fear appeared on Adrienne’s eyes, but she quickly lowered her gaze to hide it. However, it was already too late as Lennox saw it.

"Then stick with me and let’s avoid him at all cost." Adrienne forced a smile, proving to Lennox that she was affected by Myrtle’s brother. He wondered what happened between the two for Adrienne to show fear for the first time.

Adrienne was forced to end their conversation and bid goodbye to Lennox. She promised to return again for another round of tutoring.

Lennox could only watch her go, but made a mental note to ask her about Alistair Han next time.

Adrienne kissed her mother goodbye, before leaving the place with Hunter and Myrtle. They dropped Myrtle off at her apartment complex before returning home.

Once home, Adrienne found her father waiting for her at the living area. She had a bad feeling about this.

"Addie, a word please." Lewis said. "Follow me to the study."

He then glared furiously at Hunter. "You. Stay here. Or do you dare to meddle in our family affairs?"

Hunter clenched his hand tightly, wanting nothing more than to beat up this old man’s face. How dare this man put his own daughter’s life and future in danger? What kind of father was he to treat Adrienne like this? In his eyes, Lewis Jiang is the lowest scum on earth.

"But Miss Addie..."

"It’s fine. You just wait for me in the hallway. This won’t take long."

Something about her tone disturbed Hunter, but he could only follow her order. He accompanied her at the second level where the study was and waited just outside the door.

As soon as Adrienne closed the door, she asked, "What is it that you want to—"

However, before she could finish her words, a heavy slap landed on her face. Her head turned to her left, eyes widening as she didn’t expect her father to hit her immediately.

"What is happening to you?! You are becoming more unruly as the day passes! Not only did you allow your bodyguard to harm your brother, but now you are chasing us out from this household?!"

Adrienne recovered from her shock and covered her swollen cheek. Her father didn’t even try to control his strength and slapped her with full force.

She glanced at the new portrait commissioned by her father, the one that didn’t include her. When she first saw it in her previous life, she was beyond heartbroken. Now that she was seeing it for the second time, she couldn’t help but think that the Jiang family was such a bunch of clowns. She was relieved to know she wasn’t included in it.

"And yet, everytime Cayden beat me up in the past, you’ve never scolded him."

"He is just trying to discipline you!" Lewis insisted.

’Bullshit!’ Adrienne thought. Cayden used to beat her for trivial lessons.

"Ah, and I wasn’t the one who decided to evict you from this home, Father. Grandpa Zhao decided on it. I merely delivered his message." She could feel the stinging pain on her face and groaned inwardly

"Stop using the Zhao family as an excuse!" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"I’m not lying, Father. In fact, as we speak, the Zhao family has already seized all of Mom’s properties. Her local and overseas accounts are frozen. I only need to say the word and Grandpa Zhao will retrieve the investment he put in the company as well."

"Are you threatening me, Addie?! I’m your father!" Her father’s face was contorted with rage!

"Then act like one!" Adrienne snapped at him which caught Lewis off guard.

"But you can’t, right? Father, you must not forget. I’m Rosemary Zhao’s daughter. Do you know that everything you and Aunt Camilla are enjoying now is the fruit of my mother’s hard work? If you’re really capable, you don’t have to step on someone to advance. If you have nothing else to say, please excuse this unruly daughter of yours."

Before Lewis could react, Adrienne had already stepped outside.

Hunter, who had been itching to break down the door to see his miss, froze when he saw Adrienne’s swollen face. He saw red at that moment. He stalked toward the study, intending to beat Lewis Jiang, but Adrienne held his arm tightly and shook her head.

"I’m tired."

Suddenly they heard something break within the study, then heard Lewis yell - "What an insolent daughter you’ve raised, Rosemary Zhao!"
