Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 69: Lennox Qin’s Bride (1)
Hunter was taken aback upon hearing Adrienne’s words. He couldn’t believe that wicked nurse had tried to send her to Elysian. If Adrienne wasn’t aware of the true nature of that place, she might have been ruined. She wasn’t trying to make excuses with her action, but merely allowing her enemies the taste of their own medicine.
"Who would dare to send you to that place?" He hissed.
Hunter couldn’t understand how Adrienne could remain calm after knowing this. No woman should be subjected to such a scheme. Adrienne was still young and she wouldn’t survive in a place like Elysian.
"Would you believe it if I tell you that it’s my dearest sister, Elise Jiang?" Adrienne kept her mother’s hand on hers. "The card they handed to me was released under my father’s name. To think he would conspire with my good siblings to send me to that place was really amazing."
"I thought Lt. Zhao was exaggerating when he said they are trying to get rid of you. What a bunch of monsters."
"I initially planned to send Elise there, but I would be too heartless if I do it to my own sister. I don’t want her blood on my hands. There are better ways to punish them in the future."
Once the visiting hours were over, Adrienne stopped by at Lennox’s room to retrieve her bag. It was rude of her to leave such a mess, but she found her things already tidied up by him.
"So how was it? Are you pleased with the result? It’s a pity I wasn’t able to see her begging you." Lennox said. He was already seated on his bed with a thick fantasy book splayed on his lap. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"She’s already dealt with by the police." Adrienne answered, then eyed his book. "I didn’t know you were interested in this kind of book."
Lennox laughed, but immediately regretted that as the burn on his left arm had yet to heal and it made him uncomfortable. He knew he had high tolerance, but burns were totally out of the range.
"Hey, take it easy." Adrienne said when she noticed how his face turned ashen. He was surely trying his best not to make her worry.
Lennox took a deep breath and leaned against the pillows behind him.
"It’s fine, Addie. I’m fine." But Adrienne could sense the lie in his tone.
"Anyway, if my father hadn’t thrown me into the business world at a young age, I would have tried my luck in writing." He tried to dissuade Adrienne from worrying anymore and succeeded.
"Oh? Who would have known?" Her lips curled up in a mesmerizing smile.
Lennox was stunned for a moment, but then cleared his throat.
"Y-yeah, at least now I can read some while being stuck in this place." He muttered.
"Well, I think it’s the perfect time to explore the opportunities to become a writer." Adrienne rubbed her chin and looked pleased with her idea.
"Addie, are you forgetting who I am?" He raised a brow on her.
"Of course, I know who you are! You are Lennox Qin. Once you put your sight on something, you won’t stop until you have it. Anyway, it’s not like you’re going to write using your real name. Pen Names exist for a reason."
Lennox opened his mouth, but couldn’t find the words to answer her. Adrienne took this chance to retrieve her bag from his table.
"I’ll try to reconsider..." He said in the end.
"There’s no need to rush. When will you be discharged anyway?" Adrienne asked. She was thinking of visiting Samantha at Jinxiu Garden soon to check on her.
"This weekend. The same day as your Grandfather’s birthday banquet."
As they were speaking, a feminine voice could be heard outside Lennox’s door.
"Addie, are you there?" Myrtle called her best friend.
"I’m here." Adrienne wasn’t sure why Myrtle came here, while Lennox frowned at the number of people trying to distract him and Adrienne. When did she become this popular?
Without waiting for Lennox’s permission, Myrtle slid the door open and entered the room. She closed the door behind her and gave him a good look. Adrienne’s back stiffened. Her best friend was aware of the part of the deal where she had to gather Lennox’s siblings, but she hadn’t told Myrtle that they were to marry in the future. When Myrtle first saw the engagement ring on her hand, Adrienne was forced to lie and say that she’d recently purchased it. Adrienne felt guilty lying to Myrtle, but she had to keep their engagement under the radar.
"You’re Lennox Qin?" Myrtle asked boldly. This is one of the traits Adrienne liked on Myrtle. Regardless of one’s social status, she treated them the same.
"The one and only, Miss Han." Lennox gave her a faint smile.
Myrtle’s brows shoot up. "Well, I guess you don’t look bad at all, contrary to the nasty rumors circulating around you. They all say you’ve become an imbecile and is crippled. I guess one shouldn’t easily believe the rumors."
"Imbecile? No. But crippled? Yes. You have to throw some truth to the rumors to confuse the enemies."
Myrtle stared at him for a moment and burst into laughter, surprising not only Adrienne but Lennox as well.
"I like you, but you better treat those kids well. Anyway, let’s exchange contacts. I’ll let you know what Addie is up to."
"Myrtle!" Adrienne exclaimed, but Lennox pulled out his phone and exchanged contacts with Myrtle without batting an eyelid.
Myrtle ignored her best friend and regarded Lennox. "So you and Addie..."
"Myrtle, please! Let me explain." Adrienne could feel a headache coming her way.
Finally, Myrtle looked at her and rested her one hand on her hips.
"Addie, do you really think I’d believe you bought that ring? Didn’t you know it’s one of a kind and there’s only one set of it in this country? It costs about 250 thousand dollars. Even if you have that kind of money, you wouldn’t splurge so recklessly!"
