Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 68: Repaying One’s Gratitude (2)
Nurse Chen screamed in pain as Hunter twisted her hand painfully. Her screams gathered the attention of those outside. They rushed into the room and found the nurse crying in pain on the floor.
"W-what happened here?" The medical director asked, flabbergasted at the scene before them. It hadn’t been too long since they went out, but things were already this bad. They were just speaking to the policemen stationed outside the room when they heard the scream coming from his office.
Hunter straightened his stance and faced them.
"Nurse Chen tried to assault Miss Jiang after Miss Jiang confronted her. I would like to add malicious assault to her pending cases. She doesn’t seem regretful about what she’d done to Miss Jiang’s mother."
The director’s face darkened and he asked the policemen to take Nurse Chen away.
"We’ll deal with her, Miss Jiang. I assure you, she won’t easily get away with this. Once she receives first aid treatment on her hand, we’ll hand her over to the police station for custody." He promised Adrienne.
Adrienne nodded.
"I hope this won’t happen again, doctor. I wouldn’t want anyone to experience such a traumatizing treatment from your medical practitioners. My Uncle Reese has decided to transfer my mother to another hospital because of this. I hope you understand... we don’t feel safe here anymore."
The director was taken aback by Adrienne’s words. He thought that he would be able to appease Adrienne easily, but who would have thought her Uncle would intervene and had already made plans for her mother’s transfer.
"I-I understand. I promise you this thing won’t ever happen to any of our patients from now on."
Adrienne and Hunter returned to her mother’s hospital room, none of them said anything to each other. She held her mother’s hand and kissed her palm.
"Mom, no one’s gonna hurt you again. So could you please wake up and return to me? Don’t you think over two years of making me worry is already enough?"
"Miss Addie... I don’t understand... Isn’t Cayden Jiang your brother? Why would you sell him out to that loan shark? And why did he do this to your mother?" Hunter couldn’t help but ask. It bugged him how unusual Adrienne’s relationship was with her brother.
Adrienne sighed and straightened her back on her seat.
"Cayden Jiang isn’t my mother’s child, but Camilla’s. She and my father pressured my mother to take Cayden in when my mother lost my elder brother during childbirth. They took advantage of her, so how can I not hate Cayden Jiang? My mother raised him like her own, and yet this is how he repaid the gratitude? This is just the start. I’ll ruin them with my own hands."
"She lost your brother during childbirth?" Hunter continued to probe. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Adrienne found it odd that he was curious about it, but answered him nevertheless. It was better for Hunter to know why she and Cayden would never get along.
"They said Mom gave birth to stillborn baby, but Uncle Reese didn’t believe it. He’s investigating it as we speak. If my brother really died, then I hope he would have a better life in his next one. If he managed to survive and lived, I hope he didn’t experience too much bitterness in this world."
Hunter remained silent and didn’t ask her any further about her mother. His thoughts went back to the nurse who harmed Adrienne’s mother, thinking he should have broken both of the nurse’s hands for good. However, as he thought about what he witnessed today, he thought Adrienne’s way was way more cruel and vicious. She didn’t leave any room for survival for her enemies.
"You said you sent that woman’s daughter to Elysian. What kind of place is that?" He was curious as he had never heard of that place before.
"It’s a type of gentlemen’s club for the wealthy bachelors and married men. That luxurious black card those men presented would give them access inside the establishment. However, if a woman presented it, it only meant she was offering her services to those men."
"So like high-end prostitution?"
Adrienne shrugged. "Something like that. But I heard most women who went there would never be the same again. There are some speculations that most of them were drugged during their performances or while on duty. The government couldn’t shut the place down because it has a strong backing. Can you guess who it is?"
Hunter tried his best to figure out the identity of that person, but he couldn’t think of anyone.
"It’s Prosecutor Ji." Adrienne answered, and she wasn’t surprised seeing the stunned expression Hunter had on his face. "Whenever there were plans for a surprise visit by the authorities, he would easily tip off the owner of the place to clean it up. It’s also hard to deal with it since most patrons came from influential and wealthy families. The police and the government surely wouldn’t want to make an enemy out of them."
"But you sent Nurse Chen’s daughter to that place... don’t you think it’s too much?" Hunter eyed her curiously.
Adrienne wasn’t offended by his question. She never claimed she was a good person to begin with. However, she would try her best to spare the innocent ones in her revenge.
"Too much? If you know what kind of person her daughter was, would you say the same thing? I’m not saying I’m a valiant knight willing to protect the weak, but her daughter has been known to be a bully since her middle school years. I ran some background checks and found out she bullied her classmates and asked for money from them. If they don’t give her money, she and her friends would beat them up. There’s one instance where she poured boiling hot water on her classmate’s arm and merely brushed it off as an accident. Since she was desperate for money, I let her have the card her mother gave me."
