Chapter 111: Evil Schemes Back Fired

Amaya stood closest to the beehive. Strangely, the bees ignored her and went after the other three ladies. Ricardo was not in sight.

Phoebe, Liza, and Margaret let out piercing screams as they frantically attempted to fend off the swarming bees.

"Run towards the fire! Bees are scared of smoke. I’ll try to move the beehive away from here," Amaya shouted as she scooped up the beehive and ran in the opposite direction of the camp. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Marx, Dave, and the rest of the men stopped what they were doing and ran in the direction of the screams. When they saw three women running with a swarm of bees following behind, they quickly retrieved the branches they had been using to feed the fire on the grill and attacked the swarms of bees.

The bees dispersed and flew toward the direction where they came from.

Marx followed the bees and found Amaya after ten minutes. She was carrying something wrapped in a big leaf.

"Are you alright? Did the bees sting you?" Marx was worried.

"They tried to sting me, but I am well protected by my arm guard, and I have insect repellant. The one I gave you this morning is effective against bees. If those ladies used them, then they shouldn’t have been stung."

Marx held her hand and checked the thing that she carried.

"A honeycomb! You were able to get it?" Marx asked but wasn’t surprised at all. The jungle was Amaya’s dominion, after all. Harvesting honey with bees all around should be a piece of cake for her.

"By the way, what happened?" Marx intentionally slowed down so it will take them longer to reach their campsite.

"Liza called me and asked to show me something. When I arrived, I saw a beehive on the ground, covered by a scarf. As I approached, someone threw a rock at it, causing the scarf to fall off and the bees to start attacking."

Marx’s eyes darkened. It looked like someone was scheming against Amaya.

"Hey, would you like to taste raw honey directly from its source?" Amaya opened the leaf, and Marx saw that the honeycomb was as wide as an A4 paper. Honey was dripping from one of the hexagonal holes. Amaya lifted it in front of her face and then stuck out her tongue, waiting for the honey to drip onto it.

Marx was speechless. He swallowed. ’This naive woman will make me crazy. Is she testing my patience?’

"It tastes really sweet. Try it, Marx." She took Marx’s hands and placed the honeycomb on them.

"I’ll taste it later at the campsite. Let’s get going, as it will soon be dark."

Amaya gazed up at the green canopy that blocked the afternoon sun. Then she looked at Marx standing beside her. A ray of sunlight somehow seeped through the thick foliage and illuminated Marx’s profile, making his face glow.

Amaya’s heartbeat quickened. Why was she feeling strange emotions within her?

Marx noticed Amaya staring at him from the corner of his eye, seemingly in a trance. He turned his head towards her and saw a hint of honey staining the corner of her lips. At that moment, he felt a sudden urge to kiss her and allowed himself to lose control. He gently held Amaya’s chin with his right hand and brushed the corner of her lips with his thumb.

Amaya experienced a tingling sensation on her face where Marx’s hand had touched her. She widened her eyes as Marx’s face drew nearer and nearer.

Marx’s lips gently touched hers as he breathed heavily before covering her lips with his. He then opened her mouth and tasted the honey she had eaten earlier.

Amaya was becoming short of oxygen when Marx finally released her. They were both panting from the kiss.

Marx brushed a strand of hair from Amaya’s flushed face after their kiss. In a cheerful mood, he took her hand and led her back to the campsite.

When they arrived, Phoebe, Liza, and Margaret were crying pitifully. Phoebe was covering her face with her palms. Even then, Amaya could still see that her face was swollen.

"Dave, I want to go to the hospital. I don’t want my face to be ruined." Phoebe’s words were almost muffled because of her cries. She felt aggrieved.

’How come was Amaya not hurt when she was the closest to the beehive? If she knew the result would be like this, she shouldn’t have thrown that stupid rock.’

Phoebe questioned in a frustrated tone, ’Why is it that only the three of us got bitten while the rest of you are perfectly fine?’"

"Didn’t Amaya hand us a bottle containing the extracts of some plants this morning? She said to apply the oil over the exposed body parts to ward off insects, and it really is effective," Dave explained while looking at Phoebe.

Phoebe’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she cast her eyes downward. She couldn’t bear the thought of her friends using the product, convinced that its quality didn’t meet her standards.

Amaya pitied the three woman. She took out a bottle and passed it to Dave. "This is an antidote to bee stings. Please ask them to apply on their injuries."

Phoebe initially did not want to, but when she saw her face in the pocket mirror, she decided to apply it. The concoction smelled nice, and it was very light but a bit greasy.

They followed suit when Liza and Margaret saw that she applied the concoction.

Marx approached Phoebe. She glared at Lisa and Margaret, trying to signal them with her eyes to leave. Lisa and Margaret hesitated, but eventually nodded and then left.

Marx sat beside her. Phoebe was breathless and her heart was racing.

"Phoebe, you should stop with your schemes to hurt Amaya," Marx said harshly. "As you can see, your schemes not only failed, but they also backfired. I hope that you learned your lesson." With that, Marx stood up and left without turning back.
