Raised From The Wild-Chapter 110: Jungle Experience 2
Marx’s body tilted to the right. His left hand reached out, trying to grab a branch or anything that could break his fall, but he only grasped air. He looked down and saw that it was only a steep slope, not a cliff, and there were many bushes that could break his fall.
Two strong hands grasped his hand to steady him. "Careful Boss." It was Vasquez.
Marx nodded at Vasquez. It was his way of expressing his thanks to his subordinate.
At the same time, Amaya landed in front of him. She was still holding the vine she used to transport her body to where Marx was.
"I just lost my footing." Marx was embarrassed, but he kept a cold face as if nothing had happened.
"I just saw you looking at that tree. Is something wrong?" Marx changed the subject to avoid Amaya’s further inquiries about his near fall.
"I thought I heard something, but maybe I made a mistake."
Marx and Amaya walked side by side. Like the others, they held a stick to support themselves. Vasquez followed closely behind, while Drake walked on Marx’s side.
They stopped at the tree that distracted Amaya earlier to wait for the others.
Amaya hesitated about climbing the tree to investigate. Just as she was about to look away, she saw something gray fall from the tree at a fast speed. Amaya jumped into the air and caught the gray object.
Dave had just arrived with Phoebe when he saw Amaya jump into the air.
Amaya opened her palms, and an ugly-looking gray bird appeared. She looked closely and noted that the small bird had injured its right wing. It looked like it had hit a branch when it fell from its nest.
"Wow, this is a black eagle. Can I hold it?" Dave asked excitedly. Without saying anything, Amaya transferred Eaglet to his hand. She took an herb from the pocket of her backpack and crumpled it in her hand.
"Can you open the underside of its wing?"
Dave did as he was told. Amaya squeezed the herb, applying more force until a green sap appeared. Then, she let it drop onto the eaglet’s wound.
The eagle squirmed in pain and let out an ear-piercing sound. Amaya stuffed the crumbled left under the eagle’s wing. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
"Give me the eaglet." She asked Dave with urgency.
Dave reluctantly passed her the eaglet. "The mother would soon be here. You start moving, and I’ll catch up."
"No, we will wait for you."
Amaya stopped arguing with Marx. She took a scarf from her backpack, fashioned it into a pouch, and tied it securely around her neck. Then, she placed the eaglet inside the pouch and hurriedly climbed the tree.
The nest was located at the topmost branch. Amaya carefully placed the eaglet back in the nest. The eaglet has two siblings.
She heard a screeching sound in the distance. She squinted her eyes and saw a black eagle soaring towards the tree.
"Lil one, be careful next time. Don’t hurt yourself. Bye."
Amaya hurriedly slid down from the tree before the mother eagle could see her. As Amaya was in a hurry, she got careless and her palm was cut by a small protruding bark.
Marx frowned when he saw a red liquid drop from her palm. He wanted to hold her hand, but Amaya instinctively hid it behind her back.
"Amaya, give me your hand," Marx said sternly. He looked very serious, and his voice was full of authority.
Amaya reluctantly extended her hand to him. Marx wore a concerned expression as he retrieved the first aid kit. He cleaned the wound with iodine povidone and then applied a band-aid to her palm.
Amaya felt her heart warm up when she remembered how her Daddy Ibrahim used to put herbs on her hands or legs when she hurt herself. After her daddy passed away, she continued to apply the herbs by herself. But now, there was another person taking care of her..
Marx coughed lightly when he saw that she was in a trance. ’Is she remembering her father again?’
They continued their trek down the mountain. At 4:00 PM, they arrived at a stream in a clearing.
"Darkness will descend very fast in the jungle. Let us do the things that we need to do while there is still the sun."
The guards checked the surroundings and when they confirmed that there was no threat, they came back to set up their tents.
Vasquez created an oven, and he skewered the remaining snake meat. While he was grilling, the others busied themselves looking for fruits and wild berries.
Marx caught a hare and passed it to Drake, who diligently cleaned and dressed it. Then, he cut the hare into chunks and passed them to Vasquez.
"Uggh, are we going to eat snake meat again? Phoebe asked while rolling her eyes.
"If you don’t like snake meat, you can have the hare." Marx snorted. ’This woman, I thought she is a mountaineer and should not be picky with food.’
Phoebe and her two lackeyes decided to take a stroll. Ricardo followed them, but he kept a distance. She became excited because she saw a beehive hanging on three. She asked Ricardo to take it down.
"Miss, what you are asking me to do is very risky. What if I can’t contain the bees? it will backfire on you." Ricardo advised
"Don’t worry about that. Just get the beehive, and I’ll take care of the rest," Phoebe said, filled with excitement.
Ricardo was extremely cautious. He used Poebe’s scarf to cover the beehive and removed it from the tree, placing it on a nearby stump.
"Go call Amaya and tell her to come here, as we found something, " she asked Liza in a domineering manner.
Liza left in a hurry and was back in no time, together with Amaya. Amaya took one look at the beehive and knew what it was. She was wearing her arm guard and leggings, so only her neck and face were exposed. However, she applied a concoction that could repel insects, including bees.
She approached the beehive in a carefree manner. When she was near the beehive, someone threw a small rock on it causing the scarf covering the hive to fall. The agitated bees scattered and attacked.
