Chapter 61: A Home (Ch.61)

"And if I did... would you kill me and offer my head to my brother?" Neveah asked in a dark tone as she slowly turned to fix her narrowed gaze on Alpha Dane.

Alpha Dane’s eyes narrowed into a glare, clearly displeased by Neveah’s tone but Neveah did not care in the slightest.

Just as her wolf had said, a king had no friends, this was a fact she had now accepted, her path was one she would have to walk alone and though she would never do harm to Eclipse Hunt,

She would not be vulnerable to them either, this was a time in her life where trust was simply a death sentence.

The atmosphere in the clearing grew tense as Neveah and Alpha Dane remained in a stare down for a short moment.

"Veah... don’t say that, Dane would never..." Luna Colleen said in an attempt to deflect the tense situation, nudging Alpha Dane to drop his glare.

Alpha Dane grunted beneath his breath but he did avert his gaze as Luna Colleen bid him and Neveah also dropped her glare.

She breathed a quiet sigh, if she could have things her way, she would rather she was never even born to the Eclipse Royal family... any kind of life would have been better compared to the life she had led so far.

All Neveah wanted was a life with no worries or fears whatsoever... she just wanted peace.

"I have never coveted the throne, all I ever wanted to do was leave the Eclipse Domain and start life anew. I do not care for the throne or anything pertaining to royalty..."

"I would rather live a free and unrestrained life... this is what I covet." Neveah murmured with a quiet scoff, knowing things never did go as she planned.

"Do not concern yourself with my choices, you can be rest assured, the Eclipse Hunt will never get entangled in my difficulties." Neveah assured in a blank tone.

"What I meant to say is...you saved my life and that of my mate, the Eclipse Hunt Pack owes you an eternal debt of gratitude." Alpha Dane began as he rose to his feet.

Neveah’s eyes widened when Alpha Dane dropped to a single knee, the rest of the Eclipse Hunt quickly followed suit, they could not remain standing while their Alpha knelt.

"I swear it to you on my honor, you will always have the Eclipse Hunt Pack to count on, Princess. If you covet the Eclipse throne, the Eclipse Hunt will be your backing..."

"If you choose to live an unrestrained life away from the troubles of the royal family, the Eclipse Hunt will be your home... I will regard you as my own blood and the Eclipse Hunt will protect you from the royals, at any cost." Alpha Dane vowed in a solemn tone.

Neveah’s eyes widened slightly, she knew just how significant the word and vow given by an Alpha was, the Eclipse Hunt would be bound by it for generations to come.

She had not been expecting Alpha Dane would believe her words with no doubt and even take her side over the Eclipse royals, it was a vow she did not even dare to accept.

"Veah...we all witnessed how risked exposing your closely guarded secret to protect my pups and I, we can never repay you for this... our vow is humble, but please accept it." Luna Colleen added, an encouraging smile on her lips and tears shining in her eyes.

Luna Colleen had been fighting her tears ever since Neveah had revealed the reality she had faced in the Eclipse Palace and it ached her heart to see one so young had already endured so much pain.

There was a strong urge in Luna Colleen’s heart to make up to Neveah for all the pain she had suffered and Luna Colleen was not certain why even her wolf felt so protective over Neveah.

Meanwhile Neveah’s throat clogged up as a sob threatened to make it’s way out of her lips but she swallowed it down, a warm sensation spreading through her cold heart.

The Eclipse Hunt wolves did not even know anything about her but just like in the past lifetime, they had still chosen to stand by her side, even when they were not certain what her side was.

"I am willing to entrust my life to you, Alpha Dane of Eclipse Hunt." Neveah accepted the vow in a shaky tone and Alpha Dane rose to his feet.

He strode up to Neveah and pulled her into a hug, rubbing her back comfortingly.

"You have suffered much child, I understand now why my wolf is so taken with you, Colleen and I discussed this before we departed the Eclipse Palace."

"Henceforth... I will be the father you have never had. I am no King... but you will be a princess to my people." Alpha Dane promised.

Neveah’s strength failed her and a quiet sob escaped her lips as for the first time in her entire life, she felt welcomed... and loved.

"This is home." Alpha Dane announced as he gestured to the large mansion set at the very heart of a vast settlement.

The party had finally arrived at Eclipse Hunt territory and Neveah was astonished to see that there was no distinction between the human settlements and the parts of the territory reserved for the werewolves.

It was all just one big settlement where everyone lived in perfect harmony, humans and werewolves alike.

Neveah had never witnessed such an astonishing sight, the Earth had been dominated by the supernatural species for the longest time.

Humans had always been considered the lesser species and their territories, way of life and every significant detail were regulated by the werewolves.

Although Neveah had heard there were Eclipse packs who did not impose as much restraint on the humans under their rule as the Eclipse Fang Pack did, but she had never expected this level of freedom.

It had been only a few minutes since they had emerged from the covering of trees after crossing into Eclipse Hunt border some hours before.

The territory was vast enough that it took two hours to arrive the main settlement from the border even at wolf speed.

Neveah had ridden back on Dechlan’s back because Alpha Dane and Luna Colleen had insisted and so the party had covered the rest of the journey in a single day, arriving before the scheduled time.

As Dechlan’s speed slowed down and he bounded through the bustling streets of the small town, the human and werewolf population welcomed their Alpha with elation.

Each street they passed by was home to both humans and werewolves, even in the market place, both species moved back and forth, going about their daily business.

Neveah had stared with complete astonishment right from the edge of the settlement all the way to the pack house which they had just arrived at.

Such freedom and harmony between two species was against everything her father stood for, his laws that ensured the werewolves always remained the predators,

Trampling the the lesser species while keeping up the false image as their savior, he created the troubles himself and then liberated them from it so the humans would forever be grateful to him.

Much like Neveah, the human population of Eclipse Fang lived in a cage so large that they fell for the pretense of freedom, just because they could not see the bars.

But they were different from Neveah...at least Neveah knew clearly that she had lived all her life in bondage while they would forever remain ignorant of this fact...

And then there were packs like this one that truly accorded the human population the sincerity they deserved with no deceit attached.

Neveah realized it was no wonder her father held a grudge against Alpha Dane and even tried to reclaim a part of Alpha Dane’s territory and assign it to someone else.

It was only because if anyone were to witness this sight, it would immediately become apparent to their eyes that Alpha King Lothaire was not as magnanimous as he claimed...

That all he accorded the human population as privileges were what they actually deserved.

Alpha Dane had gone on to shift into his human form and put on some clothes before emerging again while Neveah got off Dechlan’s back.

"It’s not a palace...as I’m sure you can see." Vincent being Vincent did not miss the chance to take a jab at Neveah.

However Neveah did not think anything he ever said could actually get to her and so much to Vincent’s surprise, Neveah merely passed him a small smile before reverting her gaze to the pack house.

Just as Vincent said, it was not a large, towering palace like the Eclipse Palace and Neveah was glad for it.

She had lived all her life barricaded within the chilling, cold walls of a towering palace that she had begun to feel suffocated within.

Some days, it felt as though she could hardly breathe and the walls of the Eclipse Palace were pressing in, closing down all around her and other days it felt as though it was a vast and boundless maze, with terror lurking at each turn,

A haunted house of terror where she would be much safer holed up in her room for hours and days on end and in those times, time just flew by without her taking notice of it.

But this... this was different, this was a home.
