Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 60: The Only Way I Can Live ()

It was already morning when Neveah stepped into the clearing, and the clearing immediately fell into pin drop silence.

She could feel the eyes of all the Eclipse Hunt wolves settle on her but she ignored their gazes and headed over to the broken carriage.

Alpha Dane was seated beside the carriage, while Luna Colleen leaned over him, wrapping a bandage around his arm. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Alpha Dane had sustained a deep claw wound in the course of the battle and though it would heal, the process would be slow and it needed to be disinfected properly to prevent it getting infected.

Luna Colleen and Alpha Dane’s gaze lifted to Neveah, a moment passed by and still yet neither said anything and so Neveah decided to break the awkward silence.

"This is the wrong belt... I’ll just get the right one." Neveah explained, lifting the waist belt Luna Colleen had brought along with her clothing.

Neveah sorted through her things and pulled out the right belt before placing the other one back and then she passed the belt through the loops of the leather breeches she wore and secured the buckle.

All the while, she could still feel the eyes of all the Eclipse Hunt wolves on her and she rolled her eyes as she pulled her hair up into a ponytail.

"Uhmm... the carriage is ruined, the rest of the trip might be a little inconveniencing..." Luna Colleen finally broke the awkward silence.

"It’s fine, I will ride." Neveah said with a casual shrug.

Again, the clearing fell back into silence and Neveah did not bother lingering, instead she headed to the front of the carriage and slowly detached the horse from it.

"Veah...you haven’t had anything to eat since last night, would you care for anything?" Luna Colleen asked again and Neveah shook her head.

"I’m fine... I hunted back in the forest before coming out here." Neveah replied.

"Oh... alright, well then..." Luna Colleen began, again she was overcompensating for the tense situation and Neveah was grateful when Alpha Dane stopped her.

"Leen... she is fine." Alpha Dane said and Luna Colleen swallowed down any further words she had to say.

Neveah understood Luna Colleen was no longer certain on how best to treat Neveah now that they all knew what she truly was,

Neveah had already known this would be the result of exposing her true identity but she had still done so, and Neveah decided regardless of what came out of this, she would not regret it.

Neveah returned her attention to detaching the horse from the broken carriage, intent on resuming the journey as soon as possible.

The sooner they arrived at Eclipse Hunt Pack, the sooner Neveah could begin neutralizing the poison and once that was done, she could leave the Eclipse Hunt Pack with no concerns..

"Why ride a horse when she can just run? I mean with a wolf form like that..." Dechlan whispered but was cut off by Alpha Dane.

"Dechlan, that’s enough." Alpha Dane warned in a stern tone.

"With all due respect Alpha, are we all going to act like that didn’t happen? You were fine talking about it before she came" Vincent asked in an annoyed whisper.

"Watch your tone with me, Vin." Alpha Dane said, passing Vincent a glare.

"She can hear us, you know..." Luna Colleen reminded, gesturing towards where Neveah stared at them with a raised brow.

Neveah guessed they had grown used to whispering around her for the past four days and believing she could not hear them that they had forgotten what had happened last night meant she could actually hear them.

’You know, they look smart on the outside...but the ancients did say appearance is a deceit.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her and Neveah’s lips twitched slightly.

"You can just ask rather than making assumptions and arguing amongst yourselves." Neveah pointed out.

"We would ask if we believed you would be willing to answer." Alpha Dane said and Neveah raised a brow at the formal tone he used with her.

"If it is a question I am not willing to answer, I will let you know after you have asked." Neveah said as she leaned against the carriage, crossing her arms.

"Why have you pretended to be human all these while? Do your parents and brother know of this?" Alpha Dane asked without any further hesitation.

"No, they do not. No one knows...not until last night at least." Neveah replied with a blank tone.

Neveah did not mind revealing it to them, it was their choice what they would use their new found knowledge for, it was about time she stopped playing this game of hide and seek.

"How is that even possible? The first shift of the Eclipse Princess should have been a royal affair, joyous news spread across the Eclipse Domain." Luna Colleen said with furrowed brows.

Neveah released a mirthless chuckle at Luna Colleen’s words.

"There is a lot you do not know about the Eclipse royal family...do you dare to know more than you are supposed to?" Neveah asked pointedly.

Alpha Dane exchanged a glance with Luna Colleen and his Beta before they returned their gazes to Neveah and Neveah could see they still wanted to know.

"Very well, as Luna Colleen said...it should be a royal affair, it’s only that it cannot be, not when the Eclipse Princess is the Alpha King’s bastard child." Neveah revealed with a shrug.

Neveah watched their shocked expressions, clearly they had not been expecting that revelation.

"What do you mean bastard child..." Vincent trailed off in shock

"Alpha Queen Vilma is not my birth mother as the world was led to believe, my father was intimate with a human woman and I am the result of that." Neveah replied with a casual shrug as though it was not such a big deal.

But it was indeed a big deal, because this meant that the idolized Alpha King Lothaire Raul had betrayed the mate bond.

"This is... this is..." Alpha Dane stuttered out, his mouth dropping open and closing up repeatedly.

"While the world sees a decorated Eclipse Princess, my father plots to pawn me off in marriage and my step mother has poisoned me more times than I could count...as for my brother,"

"His torture whip tastes my skin first before any other...do you still want to know more?" Neveah continued in a blank tone.

The more Neveah spoke, the more horrified the Eclipse Hunt wolves were and they just stared with mouth agape.

"Oh Veah..." Luna Colleen said in a shaky tone.

"This is the truth my father does not want the world to know and of course, it would be in your best interest and that of your pack if he never finds out you know of it."

"Yes, I hid the fact that I have a wolf, I had my first shift alone, all by myself and it was the Creator’s grace to me."

"What do you suppose the Alpha Queen and Alessio would do to me if I who was supposed to be born human is found to possess an Alpha King wolf and as such a justifiable claim to the throne...?" Neveah asked, leaving the question hanging for a moment.

Neveah knew she did not need to speak much, the Eclipse Hunt wolves could understand the gravity of the situation.

There could not be two suns in the same sky, never in the history of the Eclipse Domain had there been two royal children born with the Alpha King wolf...there was only ever one heir, the eldest male.

Had the Eclipse Hunt wolves not seen Neveah’s Alpha King wolf for themselves, they never would have believed such a thing was actually possible.

The Creator only ever granted the Alpha King wolf to one in every generation.

"I live as a human because it is the only way I can live. I would rather die than let anyone find out this secret I have protected for thirteen years... but I see fate had other plans for me." Neveah said with an inaudible scoff.

"So there will be no need for unnecessary concerns, once the poison is neutralized... I also do not plan on lingering in the Eclipse Hunt Pack."

"Whatever you saw last night stays between us and you never have to hear from me again." Neveah murmured as she strode away.

"Wait..." Alpha Dane called to Neveah and Neveah paused in her step.

"The Eclipse throne, you are born with the ability to lay claim to it ...do you covet it?" Alpha Dane asked in a low tone.

Neveah stiffened slightly, she knew clearly that Alpha Dane was still loyal to her father and had sworn loyalty to Prince Alessio and Neveah’s true identity was a threat to their chosen future Alpha King.

"And if I did... would you kill me and offer my head to my brother?" Neveah asked in a dark tone as she slowly turned to fix her narrowed gaze on Alpha Dane.
