Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 143: A Herb ()
As Neveah stormed out of Lord Imagor’s quarters, she bumped right into something... or someone and her face made contact with a hard chest,
A string of profanities escaped Neveah as she lifted a hand to rub her head.
"Why the hell are you in my way?!" Neveah demanded as her gaze shot up, only to be met with a pair of mismatched orbs.
Standing right at the door was King Jian, accompanied by the rest of the King’s guard, Lords Kirgan, Cassian and astonishingly, Xenon too.
Neveah’s rage chilled almost immediately at the sight of four of the most powerful dragons in the keep who precisely were the ones in her way.
A single brow curled up on King Jian’s face at Neveah’s words but there was nothing she could do, the words had already been said and could not be taken back.
Even if they could, Neveah did not have any intentions of taking them back.
Neveah did not wait to see the expression or reaction of the Dragon King as she brushed past him,
However she could not get far, Xenon’s hand shot out to grab her wrist and stopped her from moving any farther.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?!" Neveah hissed in annoyance as she settled a deadly glare on Xenon.
"I see you are not as good natured as you have led us to believe." King Jian noted in his usual blank tone, passing a look to Xenon.
"What is that to mean?" Neveah scoffed out, her eyes still glowing dimly.
King Jian did not speak further but instead, he headed into Lord Imagor’s quarters, Kirgan and Cassian following behind him.
"My Liege." Lords Everon, Imagor and Menarx greeted in unison.
King Jian hummed in response as he walked over to Lady Kaliana’s bed side and sat at her side, gazing down at her pale expression for a moment.
His brows scrunched up in concern before his gaze moved to Lord Imagor.
"What is your decision?" King Jian asked Lord Imagor.
"I... I do not know what to believe Jian..." Lord Imagor admitted in a pained tone.
"Then believe in me... you will not lose Kalia. I will not allow it." King Jian vowed solemnly.
Lord Imagor nodded, lifting a hand to cradle his head whilst he sucked in a shaky breath.
"Everon...are her words feasible?" King Jian asked, still considering the words he overhead from Neveah.
Meanwhile, right outside Lord Imagor’s quarters, Neveah and Xenon were fixed in a deadly face off.
Well, Neveah was the only one doing all the glaring while Xenon just had his usual gloomy expression.
"A moment ago...you were on my side..." Neveah pointed out as she glanced down at Xenon’s grip on her hand, preventing her from leaving.
"Stay..." Xenon asked of Neveah, as he let go of her hand immediately.
"So you are not restraining me...but asking me to stay?" Neveah clarified suspiciously and Xenon nodded in response.
"I did not have a well thought out destination anyways." Neveah grumbled beneath her breath as she leaned back against the wall.
Xenon hummed in response as though saying he already figured that out.
"Will you not go in? You should not stay out here when everyone else is in there." Neveah asked after a moment of quiet.
Neveah had expected Xenon would also go in to Lord Imagor’s quarters but he just stood beside her and made no moves to head in.
"No... dange...rous..." Came Xenon’s response in his usual slow drawl.
Neveah passed Xenon a glance, a frown settled on her face.
"I do not believe anyone would mind having their dangerous brother by their side in such a time..." Neveah pointed out.
"Dangerous as you are, I reckon to Lord Imagor...at this time, you will be a great source of comfort." Neveah added.
Xenon did not respond immediately, just staring ahead.
"Do not act like you do not understand my words. I know you do... and I also know you did not come here just for me..." Neveah called out Xenon on his intent.
"So do not stand out here and be worried, you should do that...in there." Neveah insisted.
"Nosy..." Xenon grumbled in an annoyed tone as he grabbed Neveah’s hand and pulled her along with him, much to her horror.
She did not even have the opportunity to protest before she was again standing within Lord Imagor’s quarters.
All eyes moved to settle on them and Neveah grimaced at being the center of attention, not for the first or the hundredth time.
For a moment, no one spoke, King Jian and the rest of the King’s guard just stared at Xenon in surprise.
" I wondered if you would not come in." King Jian broke the silence as his gaze moved back to Lord Imagor.
"When last did I see all five of you in the same room...without claws and roars?" Lord Everon chipped in, a small smile on his lips,
Lord Everon’s smile dropped when Xenon passed him a glare knowing the claws and roars was directly referring to Xenon and his unwelcoming nature.
"I meant to say, your rare presence is most appreciated...My Lord." Lord Everon adjusted, though his eyes showed his initial words were exactly what he meant.
"Xenon..." Lord Imagor was the last to get over his shock.
The two brothers had met recently, but their meeting had not gone so well as a battle had nearly ensued, had it not been for King Jian’s interference.
Xenon regarded Lord Imagor in silence for a moment before he scoffed beneath his breath.
"Ugly... terribly...so..." Xenon pointed out, referring to Lord Imagor’s tattered appearance.
Lord Imagor was quiet for a moment before his lips twitched and then he broke into quiet laughter.
"I would never have said it but he’s not wrong...you look terrible!" Kirgan agreed, chuckling beneath his breath.
Cassian sniggered whilst King Jian and Menarx shook their heads at the rest of them.
"Forgive me... for attacking you." Lord Imagor apologized when his laughter died out.
All eyes looked to Xenon for his response and Neveah somehow felt this was not a scene she was meant to be witnessing.
But whatever it was, the warmth and companionship amongst the brothers was truly awe inspiring.
"He says you would lose...you should forgive yourself for seeking your own death." King Jian answered for Xenon in amusement.
Neveah had forgotten for a moment that King Jian was the only one who could understand Xenon’s message even when he did not speak.
"That arrogance... I take my apology back." Lord Imagor scoffed in annoyance.
Xenon did not argue with Lord Imagor, he instead walked over to Lady Kaliana, still pulling Neveah along with him like she was his movable source of motivation.
"You come to see Kalia only when she is in this condition, she would be furious." Lord Imagor murmured in a low tone.
Neveah felt Xenon’s grip on her hand tighten ever so slightly and she glanced up at him, for a moment, she took notice of the guilt reflected in those pitch black orbs before it faded away as quickly as it had come.
After a moment, Xenon glanced down at Neveah.
"I...t.. trust Veah..." Xenon said, though his words were in bits and pieces, his tone was firm and unyielding. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"So you have said...many times..." King Jian grumbled, passing a glance to Neveah as well.
"I am betting my life on this, I do not think I can be anymore convincing." Neveah said, she felt as though she was expected to say something at that moment.
"I believe Neveah’s suggestion is feasible." Lord Everon finally replied to King Jian’s question.
King Jian thought over it for a moment before looking to Lord Imagor who nodded his consent with a heavy sigh.
Neveah was surprised the adamant Lord Imagor would actually give his consent, but she knew it was not because the dragon lord trusted her.
Far from it, rather it was that Lord Imagor trusted in Xenon’s words and his judgment.
"Fine then. I will consent to this absurd arrangement. What must be done first?" King Jian asked.
Neveah did not speak immediately till Xenon nodded to her and she finally revealed her intents.
"There is a herb, that helps with blood circulation... where I come from, it is known to have a side effect of heating the body constitution."
"It grows in moist mountainous terrains and has a rough stem the shade of dark green the flowers and stem are of no significance...but the root is where the potency lies."
"It would not be nearly as potent as that...molt scale, but it will stabilize Lady Kaliana long enough to induce a safe delivery." Neveah began.
"There is such a herb?" Lord Imagor asked Lord Everon who nodded.
"From the description, it sounds quite like the Ubrith flower... I have never heard of it’s root being used as a medicinal herb." Lord Everon said in bafflement.
"It is not so rare and mostly overlooked as a medicinal herb, yet wolf shifters do not require a heated body constitution and so to us...it is a deadly poison..." Neveah explained, trailing off for a moment.
"I have had a taste of it once...so I know, if that scorching heat that burns through every organ is what a Dragon foetus needs... the herb will give you that..." Neveah murmured in a melancholic tone.
