Chapter 142: Decide Yourself (Ch.142)

"Everything was in perfect condition until recently. A dragon foetus can thrive only encased in heat and warmth. Kalia has a naturally cold body constitution that clashes with her child."

"Hence the foetus no longer recognizes it’s mother’s womb as safe and intends to force it’s birth...yet it is still underdeveloped and cannot be born now."

"A forced labour must be prevented, the easiest solution would be to enrich Kalia’s internal heat so the foetus is soothed, but without the molt scales," 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"We must resort to other methods to prevent forced labour." Lord Everon briefed Neveah on Lady Kaliana’s condition.

"What options are available?" Neveah asked with a furrowed brow as she walked over to Lady Kaliana, freezing in her step when a low growl rumbled from Lord Imagor.

"Let her." Menarx convinced, nodding to Neveah to continue.

"Lady Kaliana has a weak constitution, it is difficult to settle on a treatment method that would not end up hurting her in the long run." Lord Everon replied.

Neveah frowned slightly as she crouched down and placed a palm on Lady Kaliana’s forehead,

The perspiration gathered on Lady Kaliana’s brows was cold to touch, so much so that it shocked Neveah herself.

Neveah pulled her hand away and just stared down at Lady Kaliana, the wheels turning in her head.

Lady Kaliana’s own body constitution clashed with the natural heated nature of a dragon foetus and resulted in an unstable pregnancy.

"At this rate, preventing forced labor with herbs is tiring her out. She will grow weaker after this episode and the rest of her pregnancy duration will be even more tasking on her." Neveah murmured in a low tone.

"What do you suggest we do then?" Lord Everon asked.

Neveah had thought over this for the longest time even before she set eyes on Lady Kaliana, but now that she saw Lady Kaliana’s state,

Neveah was even more convinced she was making the right call. Lady Kaliana was human, ultimately, her body would never be suited to a dragon foetus.

It was already a miracle she had nurtured the child within her for this long and Neveah could not even begin to imagine the determination and will of this rider.

"The child wants to be born, let the child be born then." Neveah revealed.

Lord Everon’s eyes widened at Neveah’s suggestion and even Lord Imagor and Menarx were left in shock.

"She is just four months gone!" Lord Everon exclaimed.

Neveah turned to face him, a determined look in her eyes. She did not care for the presence of Lord Imagor or his deadly glare,

She also did not care what anyone would think of her suggestion, the dragon lords already wanted her dead.

Saying one offensive word or two would make no difference.

"Which means there has been four months for foetus development. It is considered insufficient and I do understand this. But this is a dragon foetus, is it not?" Neveah asked seriously.

"The foetus is still in dragon form! Unshifted and fragile!" Lord Everon hissed with a shake of his head, apalled by Neveah’s suggestion.

"But enclosed within it’s egg...an egg that grows more fragile with every moment wasted! If putting a stop to the forced labor is so impossible...we should try something else!" Neveah convinced.

"I knew we should have just killed her!’ Lord Imagor snarled.

"Oh shut up! What do you even know?! Sitting there and holding unto your rider won’t save her! I at least am desperate enough to save Lady Kaliana to be willing to try anything and it is not even my child she carries!"

"Do not interrupt me when I speak to someone that actually knows what they are doing!" Neveah snarled right back, her wolf rising to the surface whilst her words stunned Lord Imagor completely.

"Veah! Calm yourself!" Menarx interrupted before Lord Imagor could get over his momentary shock and lunge at Neveah to go ahead with his original intent to take her head.

At this point, Neveah did not even bother holding her wolf back. These group of people had her kneeling out in the sun on hard concrete and with heavy silver yokes around her neck and wrists.

And even so, when Neveah knew she should hate them, she instead wanted to save Lady Kaliana’s life but they would not even hear her out.

"I won’t! No one is in any position to tell me what to do! I said I will save her and I will, so if yelling will get reality into your heads, then yelling is exactly what I will do!" Neveah shot Menarx down just as furiously.

"That woman!..." Neveah exclaimed, pointing at Lady Kaliana.

"That woman is in pain! And no amount of numbing herbs you feed her can change that! She is not some she-dragon, she is human and unlike you all, the rest of us are not indestructible!"

"This is not the time to hold strongly to archaic believes, both options are as dangerous as the other, but if we succumb to the labour, at least we do not have to wait and watch the mother exhaust her strength fighting a natural instinct!" Neveah snapped.

How could a woman already at the stage of dilation be asked to wait it out?

"Do you not see what is most important to Lady Kaliana?! While the whole world is out here debating, she protects her child even in her sleep from everyone!"

"The mother has chosen the foetus, what rights do you all have to deny her that choice?!" Neveah snapped.

"Solidify the egg, prevent the foetus from breaking out and have the egg delivered intact. Provide artificial nurturing outside of the mother’s womb till the foetus hatches!"

"The child will have an 80% chance of survival and though the mother’s chances will be lesser, I guarantee she still has a chance! And I believe she would want her child’s life placed before hers!"

"Or you can choose to go with your idea and hope the Creator intervenes now... and every other complication that may arise for the rest of the pregnancy term! You all decide yourself!"

"When you all are ready to kill me, I will be waiting in my damned cell!" Neveah finished and stormed out of the room.

She was done with these stubborn dragons, death seemed a better option than sharing a space with them.
