Chapter 141: Lady Kaliana (Ch.141)

For a moment, Lord Everon just regarded Neveah in absolute silence, his eyes slightly narrowed.

Neveah understood Lord Everon’s actions were not in a bid to stand against her but in his concern for the Lady Kaliana who was under his care.

With Lord Everon’s skill and expertise, Neveah was certain he would definitely preserve Lady Kaliana’s life...it was only that Neveah’s fate was already being deliberated.

If Lady Kaliana lived, Neveah could keep her life but her guilt would not be alleviated and Neveah would still be judged.

However, if Neveah was able to save Lady Kaliana and earn herself a wish from the dragon king, perhaps it would all end differently.

"You have lived centuries, Your Eminence. But you have not lived my life, or seen the things I have seen... I will not say for certain that I can save her, but I will do all I can." Neveah continued.

"Very well, I will hold you to your word." Lord Everon accepted and stepped aside to let Neveah in.

The moment Neveah stepped in, she completely forgot her own personal interests at the first sight of Lady Kaliana,

Neveah’s eyes settled on the beautiful woman laid on the bed, black tresses splayed out behind her.

Right from before she stepped in, Neveah could already tell Lady Kaliana was in a critical state but seeing Lady Kaliana for herself left Neveah momentarily frozen.

Though Lady Kaliana was asleep, her brows twitched every so often and her features scrunched up in pain.

At the side, an attendant carried away a bowl of water dyed red with blood and bloodied rags, Neveah could tell Lady Kaliana’s dilation had already begun and Lady Kaliana was bleeding much too fast.

Neveah could not imagine just how much blood had already been cleaned up and the fact that Lady Kaliana was still alive and well despite such circumstance only attested to Lord Everon’s expert care.

A blanket was placed over Lady Kaliana but even then, Neveah could still see the slight protrusion of lady Kaliana’s stomach from the blanket that covered her.

Neveah could also hear Lady Kaliana’s ragged and pained breathing much clearer than when she was on the other side of the door.

As Neveah took in the sight of Lord Imagor’s rider, she took notice of Lady Kaliana’s hand protectively rested over her stomach even in her unconscious state.

Neveah could not help a deep feeling of warmth in her heart as the sight brought to mind the fond memory of Luna Colleen.

Neveah had never experienced the tenderness of a mother’s love and care for their child, she had never believed it even existed.

However, Neveah had witnessed it for the first time when she watched Luna Colleen and now, staring at Lady Kaliana, Neveah was witnessing it again.

And for some reason, Neveah knew she just had to save this child...mother and child both, no matter what it would cost.

Not because their lives could save hers, but because no mother deserved the pain of losing a child and no child should have to grow up without a mother.

It could not be one or the other, both mother and child had to live, they still had Lord Imagor who was losing his mind with worry and terror of their fate.

Neveah finally spared a glance over at Lord Imagor whose presence she had been pointedly ignoring.

His dark, hateful glare had been fixed on Neveah since she stepped into the room and Neveah was surprised he had not attacked her yet but just watched her with fierce eyes.

Lord Imagor was seated at his rider’s side, holding tightly unto her hand,

Neveah knew it was not to offer Lady Kaliana comfort as much as it was to comfort his ownself. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

Though Neveah did not know Lord Imagor well, he was amongst the six dragons that fetched her from the Eclipse Domain.

And so, she had at least witnessed his countenance, it was a vast difference from how he appeared at this very moment, with reddened eyes and dark circles beneath his eyes.

His hair was unkept and his beard had outgrown, yet he did not care for his appearance, not when all he cared about laid before his eyes.

Neveah was in awe, despite how silly it was to be in awe of a dragon lord who wanted her life, Neveah was still in awe of the overwhelming love Lord Imagor held for his rider.

It was a kind of love that one could see as clearly as one felt it just by watching them, watching how he clutched onto his rider tightly,

Keeping a strong facade yet the trembling of his bottom lip gave him away.

Neveah was certain if it was not for her presence, Lord Imagor would be in tears, if he had not already cried out all the tears he had.

And Neveah was not the only one who noticed this,

As though on instinct, Menarx who had come in with Neveah had moved to Lord Imagor’s side and had a hand rested on his shoulder.

No words were exchanged between the two but Neveah did notice, as subtle as it was, Lord Imagor leaned into Menarx for support.

"Jian and our brothers will be here soon...rest easy." Menarx murmured in a low tone to Lord Imagor and Lord Imagor nodded in response.

’The bond they share... I have never seen anything like it.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her, also in awe.

"Lady Kaliana is of mortal bloodline. She bears no blood ties to the Asvar beasts, she is purely human."

"To carry a child of a dragon is tasking on her body and takes up too much of her energy...we always knew it would not be an easy process."

"Imagor was willing to forego the child but Kalia would not hear of it. In these past four months, I have paid close attention to each stage of foetus development." Lord Everon continued.

"Everything was in perfect condition until recently. A dragon foetus can thrive only encased in heat and warmth. Kalia has a naturally cold body constitution that clashes with her child..."
