Chapter 194: Chapter 194: Chaos

Seraphina Redgrave glanced at Ethan Sterling, who was already asleep, turned on the camera function, turned off a palace lamp, and sent a selfie to the group.

The bedroom didn’t have much lighting, even during the day it was quite dark. She casually took a picture; it wasn’t particularly flattering.

"Beatrice Fawcett: Seraphina! I’m glad you’re okay!"

"Ronan Yates: Seraphina, where are you? Let’s celebrate tonight, we’ve become so popular, so many people know us now!"

Looking at Ronan Yates’ message, Seraphina couldn’t help but glance at Ethan Sterling lying beside her, then began to tap on her phone screen.

"Seraphina Redgrave: I can’t make it tonight. You guys can celebrate; the competition is over. There’s no one left to spoil your fun. But after you’re done, head back to school. The future of The Defiance Society has just begun; I’d like to see anyone get cocky."

She sent a bit of motivational wisdom to the group, shutting Ronan Yates into silence.

Beatrice Fawcett broke the silence.

"Beatrice Fawcett: Got it."

"Rory: Got it."

Everyone chimed in agreement.

Seeing this, Seraphina felt there was nothing more to say. Just as she was about to close her phone, she saw a message from Ronan Yates:

"Ronan Yates: Seraphina, you didn’t call for another duck, did you? Even though you have the means, you should still take care of your health!"

What kind of nonsense was this?

Seraphina, exasperated, sent a "get lost" back to Ronan Yates and closed the chat. Her screen showed a pile of missed calls, all from Hector Shaw.

He must have called to congratulate her after seeing The Defiance Society win three times in a row.

She got up, left the room, and picked up her phone to call Hector Shaw back.

Standing at the window, she opened it, feeling the warm summer breeze as the maple leaves rustled in the wind on the street outside.

Hector Shaw picked up the call immediately, his voice filled with excitement: "I knew you could do it! I knew you would make it!"

"Thank you."

Seraphina looked at the blue sky outside the window, feeling like she could almost reach for it.

Hector Shaw rambled on with some nonsense, then sighed and said, "Ah, if only everyone in the restricted area could contact us. You’ve done so much; they would surely be proud."

Seraphina silently looked at the vast blue sky, wondering if the weather in the restricted area was this good.

"By the way, I just read a report saying Ethan Sterling attended the competition too." Hector Shaw sounded concerned: "What does he think of what you’re doing? He’s someone standing at the pinnacle. If you go too far, won’t he..."

"He saved me today."

Seraphina spoke with a complicated expression.

"What?"

Hector Shaw was dumbfounded.

Seraphina didn’t have many friends, and the only ones who knew about her current situation and her relationship with Ethan Sterling were Hector Shaw. She wasn’t good at confiding in others, but now she really couldn’t see things clearly.

"He took an arrow for me today, and now he’s lying in bed."

Seraphina spoke while gazing at the maple leaves.

She really didn’t expect Ethan Sterling to go to such lengths for her.

"Are you hurt?"

Hector Shaw asked with deep concern,

"I’m fine."

"This..." Hector Shaw wanted to say something, but didn’t know how to begin. After a long pause, he finally asked, "Have you fallen for him?"

A man risking his life to save her, how could she not be moved?

Seraphina didn’t know how to respond. The denial caught in her throat, so she simply said, "He’s great, but I don’t know how to accept it."

She even found him annoying at times.

"Seraphina, you never used to be like this." Hector Shaw’s tone grew serious, "This isn’t annoyance; you’re confused, aren’t you?"

The two of them wanted to leave the restricted area. Hector Shaw didn’t know Seraphina completely, but he could tell her heart was troubled.

She had never shared such matters with him before, because she was always determined and knew what she should do.

Seraphina fell silent.

Was her heart troubled because Ethan Sterling saved her?

She never used to be like this.

Seraphina looked at the sky outside the window and suddenly noticed Nathan Ayers walking over from next door. He stood at the door, quietly watching her, and nodded at her.

"Let’s not talk about it."

Seraphina directly hung up the phone.

Nathan Ayers approached Seraphina, noticing the phone in her hand. It wasn’t the phone Young Master Sterling gave her; she had another personal phone.

Seraphina noticed Nathan Ayers’ gaze, looked at the phone in her hand, and laughed helplessly, "I’ll dispose of it soon."

If Nathan Ayers reported this to Ethan Sterling, this phone wouldn’t escape its fate of being smashed.

Upon hearing this, Nathan Ayers laughed, his voice gentle, "I won’t tell Young Master Sterling anything. As long as you manage it properly, it’ll be fine."

As long as Young Master Sterling doesn’t get upset.

Seraphina stood there, not knowing what to say. She recalled the call with Hector Shaw and felt sure she hadn’t said anything she shouldn’t have.

Nathan Ayers didn’t leave. Instead, he came closer and stood beside her, looking at the beautiful scenery outside the window. He clearly wanted to say something.

So Seraphina stayed too, not leaving.

"Young Master Sterling and I have known each other since we were very young. I’ve been by his side for a long time," Nathan Ayers said, his tone calm and gentle.

Seraphina looked at Nathan Ayers, a bit surprised. She had always thought Nathan was just Ethan’s special assistant, not realizing they had been friends since childhood.

"After the young lady left, Young Master Sterling never really did well, not until last year when he seized control of the Sterling from Mr. Sterling."

Nathan Ayers stated.

Seraphina looked at Nathan Ayers puzzled, "Why is Special Assistant Ayers suddenly telling me this?" 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"At that time, I thought once Young Master Sterling had everything, he would be open about it, but he wasn’t."

Nathan Ayers didn’t directly answer Seraphina’s question but continued, meeting her eyes: "Dr. Goodwin said Young Master Sterling felt very lonely. If he kept going like this, he might eventually trap himself in an abyss of his own making, and one day he’d have a relapse."

Genotypic mania is quite prone to outbursts.

Seraphina stood quietly, refraining from any further comments.

"In his life, the young lady was the person Young Master Sterling cherished the most. I thought finding a substitute for the young lady might ease Young Master Sterling’s burden, which is why we had that scene in the restricted area."

Nathan Ayers explained the reason Seraphina was brought out of the restricted area.

Seraphina listened, realizing why she was able to stand here.

"I didn’t expect that you were nothing like her, nor that you weren’t even ill. I thought Young Master Sterling would be furious, but he wasn’t."

Nathan Ayers smiled, "Miss, you probably don’t know, but ever since you came, I’ve seen Young Master Sterling become more and more vibrant. I’ve even gotten scolded less often, and life has become more stable."
