Chapter 195: Chapter 195: Confusion

Seraphina Redgrave wanted to laugh, but found her expression had already frozen. She knew Nathan Ayers must have a reason for telling her these things.

"It’s fine as it is now. I hope Miss can stay by Young Master Sterling’s side forever." Nathan Ayers, who was always gentle, spoke these words with an even more unbelievable gentleness.

Forever.

Why is she always being asked to make promises? She didn’t want to stay here at all, how could she easily make such a promise?

"Miss is very clever, you must have already sensed the difference in Young Master Sterling’s feelings towards you. Some things that Young Master Sterling cannot accept are better avoided to prevent hurting him or yourself."

Nathan Ayers felt that the relationship between Miss and Young Master Sterling had reached a just-right point.

No need to take a step forward or backward.

"Are you talking about me contacting others, or is it still about The Defiance Society?"

These words made her somewhat unhappy, so she chose to directly question Nathan Ayers.

Nathan Ayers frowned slightly: "Miss, I know you are very capable, but developing to this point is already enough."

Continuing further would be too dangerous. Clearly, just staying by Young Master Sterling’s side you could have a stable life; was there any need to go to such lengths?

"I’m sorry, but I cannot agree."

Ethan Sterling already said he wouldn’t care about her, so how could Nathan Ayers possibly persuade her?

Nathan Ayers pressed his lips together.

Seraphina Redgrave stood there, clutching her phone with increasing force, her black and white eyes staring at Nathan Ayers as she spoke, "In Special Assistant Ayers’ eyes, perhaps being an obedient lover for Ethan Sterling is my greatest happiness, but my happiness does not come from this."

Nathan Ayers was taken aback by the determination in Seraphina Redgrave’s eyes, as if he understood that this girl was not someone he could persuade.

Seraphina Redgrave turned to leave, but Nathan Ayers, still unwilling, spoke up behind her: "Was Miss just talking about Young Master Sterling? I overheard a few words."

Seraphina Redgrave paused in place.

"You said Young Master Sterling is excellent, just that you don’t know how to accept him. Can I understand this as you not being completely devoid of feelings for Young Master Sterling?"

Nathan Ayers said, "If this is truly the case, one day you’ll have to make a decision between the forbidden zones and Young Master Sterling, and you will need to choose."

She couldn’t forever stand in the middle, wavering.

Seraphina Redgrave pressed her lips together, looking at Nathan Ayers.

"If that day really comes, I hope you stand on Young Master Sterling’s side."

Nathan Ayers looked at Seraphina Redgrave, earnestly pleading.

Seraphina Redgrave stood there, saying nothing.

The air grew quiet.

Ethan Sterling’s voice suddenly called out: "Seraphina!"

Seraphina Redgrave glanced at Nathan Ayers, put away her phone, and walked toward the bedroom.

Inside, Ethan Sterling lay on the bed, looking exceedingly displeased as Seraphina Redgrave appeared in the doorway: "Where did you go? I was just taking a nap and you had to go out?"

"I was just at the door, didn’t go far." Seraphina Redgrave walked to Ethan Sterling’s bedside, looking down at him, "You woke up so quickly. Is your wound too painful?"

"From now on, I won’t allow it. You can’t leave; you must stay by my side." Ethan Sterling spoke coldly.

Seraphina Redgrave reached out, poured a glass of water for Ethan Sterling to drink.

Ethan Sterling lowered his head, drinking the water from her hand. As she lowered her head, she saw his long eyebrows drooping, how captivating his eyes were, only she knew.

This isn’t trouble; it’s your heart in turmoil, right?

So can I understand it as you not being completely devoid of feelings for Young Master Sterling?

Hector Shaw’s words and Nathan Ayers’ words echoed in her ears.

Seraphina Redgrave was lost in thought.

"What’s wrong?"

Ethan Sterling looked at Seraphina Redgrave.

"Nothing." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Seraphina Redgrave snapped back to reality, wanting to pull Ethan Sterling to lie down, but he suddenly turned over and lay on her legs, resting his arms against his face, and began to rest his eyes.

As Ethan lay on her, Seraphina Redgrave spoke helplessly: "What are you doing?"

"You can’t leave." Ethan Sterling closed his eyes, speaking leisurely: "Don’t say anything, I want to nap."

Then nap, but why must she stay?

Seraphina Redgrave sat by Ethan Sterling’s side, helplessly looking at him lying on her legs, no way to resist, and just let him be.

Ethan Sterling fell asleep sprawled on Seraphina Redgrave’s legs.

Seraphina Redgrave sat so long she got bored, also gradually drifting off to sleep.

After a long while, a hand emerged from the blanket, covering the person beside it.

The next day.

Seraphina Redgrave accompanied Ethan Sterling back to Sovereign, clinging all the way, their hands holding tightly.

She was troubled the entire journey.

At noon, Seraphina Redgrave sat at the bedside serving Ethan Sterling his meal.

The meals Granny Coleman made compared to hers were simply like those made by gods.

The First Young Master Sterling leaned against the headboard, not even lifting a hand, enjoying Seraphina Redgrave’s service.

"There are just these matters at the company. I’ll head back to the office later to handle some urgent documents."

Nathan Ayers stood to the side, reporting the work, closing the file in his hand as he did so.

Seraphina Redgrave listened to Nathan Ayers’ report from the past few days, understanding that Ethan Sterling hadn’t been working these days, causing some chaos within the corporation.

Now that he needed rest, Nathan Ayers had to handle things instead.

"Alright."

Ethan Sterling nodded, his gaze fixed on Seraphina Redgrave.

"Oh, there’s another matter. Miss Quinn’s health has been poor, and after getting injured, she’s still in the ICU. Mrs. Quinn would like to visit her."

Nathan Ayers spoke up.

Ryan Sterling and Chloe Quinn had been placed under house arrest, and now Selena Quinn was still in a hospital in the neighboring city. Chloe Quinn couldn’t even leave the old Sterling mansion, driven nearly mad.

So Selena Quinn’s injuries hadn’t healed yet.

Seraphina Redgrave sat quietly by the bed, listening, glancing at Ethan Sterling.

When learning that Selena Quinn was still in the ICU, a flicker of surprise appeared in Ethan Sterling’s eyes, not expecting Selena’s injuries to be so severe.

His expression sank, speaking in a begrudging voice: "Let her visit and have someone keep an eye on her. If there’s any trickery, send her back."

"Yes, Young Master Sterling."

Nathan Ayers replied.

Seraphina Redgrave looked at Ethan Sterling, not knowing how he really felt about Selena Quinn saving him this time.

Saying he was moved, he hadn’t even visited the hospital when leaving the neighboring city; yet to say he didn’t care at all, he had clearly given Selena a pass.

The affairs of the Elite Society and The Defiance Society had developed to this point, and the Elite Society had to offer an explanation.

The scapegoat was Caleb Crawford. The media said that because Caleb had used the position of vice-president to run the Elite Society in a dictatorial manner, bringing the corporation heirs forward, it caused chaos in the Elite Society. Caleb Crawford had now been expelled from the school.

The Presidential Palace had also spoken, stating they would thoroughly investigate the Elite Society, scrutinizing each generation, with even the President’s credentials to be transparently open for fair public scrutiny.

With someone taking the fall and the higher-ups clarifying their stance, the public’s anger subsided.

Throughout, the former president Selena Quinn was not attacked at all, nor did any news dare to criticize her.

This was, after all, Ethan Sterling’s sister—who would dare touch her? Someone must have preemptively sought Nathan Ayers’ opinion, whose response had been to ensure Selena Quinn remained unharmed.

Nathan Ayers’ words indicated Ethan Sterling’s intentions.
