Chapter 265: If Only the Date Had Never Come

Low sobs were coming out from the crystal bubble tent in the Anderson’s little garden.

Upon entering the tent Halle saw Margaret bending over one of the shelves for flowers crying. Her body was trembling and Halle could sense the great depression from her sobs.

"Margaret, what’s wrong?"

Halle stepped forward and saw Margaret raising her head. Her reddened little face was all tears.

When Hilla had just married Bruce and moved in the Anderson’s, she liked reading books in the crystal bubble tent. After they moved to the Lakeshore Center, few people came here.

There’s only Orlenna and several maidens living in the Anderson’s.

Margaret was seldom at home, afraid that Orlenna would pick on her.

Now Bruce had an accident and Orlenna brought Hilla over, afraid that she would do away with herself in the Lakeshore Center which was shot through with their love memories.

Halle returned to River City from the countryside. She didn’t move into the Anderson’s as Orlenna wished, but to the Lakeshore Center with Emily.

She would visit Hilla every day with Emily. Although Hilla rarely talked, Halle would still talk to her about something interesting in her daily life as well as about Emily.

She hoped that Hilla could live happily at least for her babies.

Margaret saw Halle and gave her a hug at once.

"Halle, I’m so sad."

Margaret was sobbing, looking really sad.

"Mom wanted to set up a tomb for Bruce by burying his clothes or other stuff. But Hilla doesn’t allow it. She said that he would come back."

"But there is news from South Africa that Bruce is in danger. It seems that he really wouldn’t come back."

"Is Hilla going to be a widow?"

Margaret was a little incoherent. She was so sad that she kept crying as she spoke.

Halle couldn’t tell that it was for Bruce or Hilla.

After all, widows were really pathetic.

Although Bruce was strict to her, she knew since she was a kid that he was the one that loved her most.

Orlenna had told her not to cry in front of Hilla because she was afraid of reminding Hilla of the sad news. However, Margret couldn’t control herself.

That being the case, she had to come to the garden.

Halle heaved a sigh, broken-hearted.

Bruce had an accident and Hilla lost her husband. As her sister, Halle felt so sorry for Hilla.

However, no one could change what had happened.

Bruce was still missing. It had been over a month since the accident. If he was alive, he should have returned.

"Don’t cry. You are the sunshine of the Andersons. Both Orlenna and Hilla need you now."

Halle did not know how to comfort Margaret who was also under huge pressure.

The babies’ due date was drawing near. It had been two months since Bruce left, yet he didn’t come back. So it couldn’t be a happy new year for the whole Anderson family.

On top of it, the Anderson Group was still waiting for their president. If Bruce did not come back before the holiday was over, all the staff would be in a panic.

"There are rumors everywhere. Mr. Anderson had an accident in South Africa. Even the Anderson stock price is volatile recently. The company needs a leader. You are the daughter of the Andersons. Now only you have a say in it."

Only if the company worked as normal, could the whole Anderson family go through all these.

Everyone, from Halle and Hilla to Orlenna, even Margaret herself knew very well about it.

Everyone understood that it was not time to agonize over it and they could not show their emotions in front of others.

As long as the Andersons did not admit that Bruce had died in South Africa, the Anderson Group would still be under the Andersons’ control.

Now the staff in the company was anxious as well as suspicious. What’s more, Orlenna’s bad condition appeared to confirm the rumors.

Margaret had no choice but to go to the company and stabilize the situation.

She used to be an assistant who accepted others’ assistance all the time. All she had to do was printing and copying documents.

Looking at the contracts now, she had a headache.

Fortunately, James could handle everything, or she must have gone to heaven.

"Halle, I know it. I just feel sad these days. It doesn’t matter. I will go and see Hilla."

Margaret wiped her tears off and was about to get up. But Halle grabbed her. "Wait! Hilla just fell asleep."

"Is she alright?"

"It’s hard to say!"

Halle frowned.

She said in a low voice, "She eats and sleeps. She is taking good care of herself and the baby in her stomach. But..."

Halle pressed her lips into a line. Since she came, Hilla had not given any smile for the past few days.

The only thing Hilla did every day was talking to her stomach. Halle didn’t know what she was talking about and she never dared to interrupt her.

Margaret sniffed and felt sorry for her. "The two babies in Hilla’s stomach were the solitary hope that could support my mom. She must be fine. I know that although Hilla does not cry, she must be sadder than me."

Halle opened her mouth but didn’t say anything.

Now, she didn’t know how to console Hilla.

The news from South Africa was abysmal, but fortunately, they did not find Bruce’s body so there was still hope of survival.

Halle wiped the tears off Margaret’s face and whispered, "Someone from the Jorgansens has arrived. Go take a look!"

It was really a surprise that the Jorgansens actually sent people when the Andersons were in such turmoil.

Surprised look registered on Margaret’s face. The Andersons didn’t leak out any message about Bruce, but she knew that one day people would hear about it. She thought, "The Jorgansens must have gotten some news. They were probably here to break off the engagement."

If Julian put forward it any other time, Margaret would be tickled. After all, she had always felt that this was a bad fate.

But in such a difficult time, if the marriage between the Jorgansens and Andersons had been canceled, then it would be the solid evidence for the news about Bruce’s death.

Margaret’s brows furrowed. Marrying Julian was hard for her, but canceling the marriage with him was also not easy.

However, she still cursed Julian in her mind.

<You want to break off the engagement when my family was in adversity. I knew it when I first met you! You are not the one that deserves the marriage with me!

Of course, a business marriage is based on interests. Now that the Andersons are

precarious, you certainly will refuse it.

To be blunt, you are a treacherous businessman!>

Margaret gritted her teeth and angrily walked towards the main hall.

Under the gorgeous crystal chandelier in the living room, a tall slender man was sitting.

The man leaned back against the sofa, looking noble and elegant. Although he looked casual when he was drinking tea, he was a gentleman.

Julian looked around at the familiar surroundings. In the past, Orlenna talked with him every time he came here.

Today, he hadn’t seen the hostess waiting for some time here. He thought, "The rumor might be true. Bruce had an accident."

Just as Julian was thinking, he saw a beautiful thin girl walking in with a condescending air.

...

Margaret was annoyed as soon as she saw Julian. First, she rolled her eyes upwards.

Then, she sat on the sofa aggressively, caring nothing about the man’s reaction. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

Realizing that she sat on the sofa furthest from the one he sat on, Julian said, "You don’t look good. Haven’t you had a good rest at home these days?"

But what he thought in his mind was, "Or do you think the pin money is not enough?"

Margaret snorted, thinking it was sarcastic.

<What a cunning man! You are probing into the Andersons.

Evil man!>

"What’s wrong with your eyes? I live in my house enjoying my life. What made you think that I didn’t have a good rest?"

Julian did not mind the unfriendly tone. Anyway, he was already used to it.

In the very beginning, he treated Margaret as his assistant. He would be very angry if she talked to him like this. But now, it was totally different and she would never give him a chance to turn the table.

"I’m happy that you’re doing well. I just came to see you. You are my fiancée. I am always concerned about your appetite and health! I am afraid that you cannot reach my standard when you marry me."

When Margaret heard this, she was immediately irritated. <What do you mean? Are you feeding a dog or something?

I have lived in the Andersons’ for more than twenty years. If you are worried that I am not healthy enough to be your wife, then why were you engaged to me?

Besides, why should I have to reach that standard? Why should I have to do as you say?>

"Mr. Jorgansens, if you want to marry someone that reaches your standard, you can go to the kindergarten and choose a little girl. Then you could feed her from an early age. When she grows up, she must be the one that you want. You know, it’s a trend that an old man marries a young girl!"

Margaret said in a sharp and sarcastic tone with a bit of jealousy that she herself didn’t notice.

Julian smiled and raised his eyebrows, "Are you jealous?"

"It’s fine for men like you to be macho. But can’t you just stop being a narcissist? Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?"

Margaret had a look that was like she was saying she was angry as soon as she saw him. She thought Julian was provoking her.

<You clearly know that we are engaged for the sake of business. How could you say that I am in love with you?

Isn’t it obvious that you wanted to take advantage of me?> "No, I am not!"

Julian spoke in all seriousness. That incredibly handsome face was signaling that he took it seriously.

Margaret rolled her eyes upward again and thought, "Look at your arrogant expression, as if what you said was the truth."

She hated this man so much. She tried her best to think of his virtues, but the only advantage that she could find about him was that his family was as rich as hers.

As for the appearance, she thought it was nothing special.

In any case, she had a brother like Bruce who was really hot.

"So, why are you here today?"

Margaret thought, <I know what you are for.

You come here to break off the engagement, don’t you? You had better deal with it before Orlenna comes back.

I am totally opposed to you on every issue. We can’t be together. Even if we get married, we will divorce one day.>

Margaret straightened her back and waited for Julian’s answer.

She stared at Julian with her bright beautiful eyes.

"Recently, there have been many rumors that are not good for the Andersons. I feel that we had better get married to stabilize the situation."

Margaret thought, "Are you here for urging the marriage, not for canceling?"

"Have you heard all the rumors about the Andersons outside?"

If Julian had heard of it, he should know that the Anderson Group was on the brink of collapse this time.

Bruce had not returned. The lie would soon be demolished if he didn’t turn up.

If the Anderson Group floated on the stock market, the share price wouldn’t be stable. It is really not wise for Julian to marry Margret now.

He should have delayed the marriage or even canceled the marriage and kept the Andersons at a distance.

However, Julian came up to her and even wanted to marry her as soon as possible.

"As long as those people know that we are married, people would stop suspecting. Rumors will be gone!"

After all, if Julian was rushing to marry Margret, it meant that the Anderson Group was running well. Then people would stop talking about if Bruce was dead.

This was a very good thing for the Andersons.

Although it was very likely that the truth would be exposed some time, the Andersons wouldn’t lose much even if Bruce died as long as they stabilize the Anderson Group now.

But, did Julian really not care about that rumor? What if Bruce would never come back? The Jorgansens would suffer too at that time.

Was it possible that Julian wanted to merge the Anderson Group with the Jorgansen Group when the company was unstable because Bruce was not there?

Thinking about it, Margaret widened her eyes. She hadn’t thought that Julian harbored such a vicious intention.

Perhaps it seemed like Julian was a savior of the Andersons, but at the bottom, he might have planned on everything and waited for them to fall into his trap.

"I don’t think it’s a good idea. We just got engaged not long ago, and I didn’t see any help to the Anderson Group. Don’t tell me you have other intentions."

Margaret looked up and down at Julian with suspicion, as if she was saying she understood everything and he had to be honest to her.

Julian felt uncomfortable and frowned.

"Is it that easy for others to merge your Anderson Group?"

It was like he was indicating that Margaret was an idiot. He saw through her thoughts.

Even if the Anderson Group did not have Bruce, no one could merge the company in a year or so.

Although the rumors and turmoil would hurt the Anderson Group, it possessed a solid foundation now, different from the time that Bruce was unconscious.

What’s more, after Bruce woke up, he had adjusted the way he manage the company. Even if Julian wanted to enter into the management, he need some time.

"That’s hard to say. You’re slippery."

Julian burst into laughter. "What? Is that what you think about me?"

In a word, Margaret never saw him as a good person.

Margaret snorted and said, "I’ll think about your advice!"

In fact, Margaret knew very well that she didn’t have a say in the decision about her marriage.

"No need to think about it! I think it’s a good idea."

Orlenna came downstairs. Although she looked pale, she was still with absolute

authority.

Orlenna gazed at Julian and gave a gentle smile. "Please let Mrs. Jorgansen decide the wedding date!"

Margaret really hoped that there would never be a date for their wedding.
