Chapter 132: Chapter 132: Will of the Beast (II)

"As you all know," Kael said firmly, "I have returned with my son, who is now the Crown Prince of the Beast Kingdom. You will treat him with respect, because I will not sire any other children in the future."

As he spoke, his gaze flicked briefly toward Vestor, making the owl stiffen. The owl knew that statement was meant for him—the one who had once assumed Kael would eventually mate with Ruela.

It was also Vestor who didn’t have a tight surveillance around Ruela, so she could freely walk into the royal banquet wearing a dress only a prostitute would wear.

The declaration sent a ripple of shock through the hall.

Kael was the first alpha—no, the first king—who openly refused to take multiple concubines to produce powerful offspring.

He was placing the fate of the entire kingdom on Jojo alone, as though he trusted completely that his son would survive to ascension—and be strong enough to inherit the crown.

Among beastmen, strength was law, and to be a king, he needed an adequate strength to suppress everyone.

If Jojo failed to measure up to his father, rebellion would be inevitable.

All the beastmen present in the throne room had the same idea in mind:

Wouldn’t it be wiser to sire more heirs, in hopes that one might equal or even surpass the Beast King?

Everyone in the throne room agreed that the little prince was adorable.

But cuteness did not make a king.

Jojo showed no sign of being a prodigy in battle. Unlike the children of military leaders such as Grishaw or Pell, the Elephant General—whose offspring were trained for real combat from the age of four—Jojo was still being carried around and spent his days with his father or that beautiful caretaker.

Yet no one dared voice these thoughts.

As long as the Beast King stood behind the Crown Prince, no beastman would challenge him openly.

Vestor, at least, was not surprised. Kael had already informed him of this decision the day before.

What made his chest tighten was the second announcement.

"All of you present at the banquet must already know of the woman who returned with my son yesterday," Kael continued.

His mind briefly recalled Sisi sitting obediently on his arm. With Jojo and Sisi sitting on his arms, Kael felt like he was carrying the two most precious jewel on earth.

Of course, everyone remembered her.

The caretaker was a breathtaking beauty, the kind capable of toppling nations. A single smile from her had been enough to leave many of the men in a daze.

They waited, certain the king would name her as a new concubine, as it was natural for a king to have countless concubines.

But they were wrong.

"Her name is Sisi," Kael said. "She is currently residing in the Queen’s courtyard and must be addressed with honor."

He paused, sweeping his gaze across the hall, checking if anyone dare to object.

When no one spoke, he continued, his voice clear and unyielding.

"And I intend to make her my Queen."

A sharp gasp echoed through the hall, and heads lifted in disbelief as beastmen stared at their king, hoping their ears had betrayed them.

But Kael remained unmoved upon his throne, gazing down at them.

"Until she is crowned, you will refer to her as Mistress Sisi," he said. "If anyone has objections, speak now. Otherwise, I won’t be bothered to listen later."

Vestor glanced around the room.

Several of the high-ranking beastmen must’ve had witnessed what happened in the summit—how the trees had twisted and fused together unnaturally because of Sisi.

Even now, the trees in the summit remained intertwined, which was an unmistakable proof of Sisi’s witch power.

Vestor wanted to voice out his objection, but he waited.

Because if he spoke first, he was certain the Beast King would behead him on the spot. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

At last, Garou, leader of the Panther Tribe, stepped forward.

"My King," he said loudly, "she is a human! How can we allow someone naturally weaker than our species to rule over us?"

Vestor frowned.

The argument was flawed.

Yes, humans were physically weaker, but they bred faster, stood united, and built powerful civilizations.

Beastmen, on the other hand, reproduced slowly and clung to tribal divisions until Kael forced them under one banner.

’Am I the only one who actually witnessed Mistress Sisi’s power?’ Vestor wondered. ’Grishaw saw it too... yet he accepted her without question. What happened during their journey? Why does he seem afraid of her?’

"Y-yes, My King," Jeanne, leader of the Flying Squirrel Corps, added nervously. "Even if the Queen never participates in battle, you would eventually sire an heir with her. Your bloodline is precious to us. Wouldn’t it be a waste to dilute it with a weak human’s genes? Your child would surely be weaker than you."

"I told you," Kael replied coldly, "I have no intention of having another child."

And even if he did, he doubted Sisi would ever agree.

She was strong-willed, and clearly disliked him. The idea of her willingly sharing his bed, let alone bearing his child, was laughable.

The hall fell silent as the king’s answer was enough to shut them up.

Offspring had always been the core of their concern. If the Beast King would not sire another heir, then Sisi could be treated as a queen in name only, little more than the highest-ranked concubine.

That thought eased many of them.

But it made Vestor’s unease deepen.

He clenched his fists as no one dared protest further.

’If no one speaks, I must. I must protect this kingdom from being taken over by a witch,’ he thought. ’Even if it costs my life.’

Before he could step forward, another voice rose.

"My King," Pell, the Elephant General, said, his deep voice carrying through the hall. "I witnessed what happened at the summit."

Murmurs spread.

"The trees moved as if alive. They intertwined with one another under the will of a single person," Pell continued. "That person was Mistress Sisi, was she not?"

He lifted his head and asked plainly,

"My King... do you know that she is a witch?"
