Chapter 133: Chapter 133: Will of the Beast (III)

"My King... do you know that she is a witch?"

The throne room fell into a suffocating silence after Pell raised the question. The air grew tense as every beastman went on alert.

Yes, they all knew the Beast King was powerful.

But was he immune to a witch’s spell?

Witches had always been a dire threat to beastmen. The weaker witches kidnapped cubs. The stronger ones did far worse—stealing cubs while bewitching their fathers into slaughtering their own mates before ending their own lives, so there would be no witness to their heinous act.

Some witches could even enslave beastmen with weak minds, turning them into tools for endless labor.

The only reason witches had never taken control of the entire beastman race was simple: alphas of each tribe possessed strong willpower. When one resisted mind control, the rest would follow.

But what if the witch was powerful enough to break even the strongest mind?

Kael observed the fear etched across their faces and nearly laughed.

Of course, he knew what was on their mind. But little did they know, his curse rendered him immune to any weaker spell or curses, including a witch’s charm.

Jojo shared that immunity as well.

The Dusk Star and Dawn Star curses were the strongest curses to ever exist—it was impossible for them to be bewitched by Sisi, even if she knew such spells.

Since there was no way Sisi could bewitch Jojo using any spell, Jojo’s love for Sisi was genuine.

And from Kael’s observation, Sisi displayed no magic beyond her ability to command plants.

Of course, no one here knew this.

Kael had never spoken of his curse.

To them, he was simply born strong.

While that wasn’t entirely false, it was the innate curse he had been born with that made him strong.

Unfortunately, the said curse had also turned his life into a living hell.

He didn’t care if they hated or feared him for it.

But those who had a knowledge about the Dusk Star would also know of the Dawn Star, an even bigger threat that would actually turn Roc Forest into a scorched land.

Kael would not allow Jojo to be targeted or isolated because of a curse he never chose to be born with. The boy deserved a childhood free of misery and loneliness, unlike his own.

Kael had no intention of hiding Sisi’s identity, especially when several of those present had already witnessed the summit, and Sisi herself used her power right in front of Vestor and Grishaw.

Since Sisi was prepared of whatever the risk she’d face, he should also jump right in.

"Yes," Kael said evenly. "I know she’s a witch."

Gasps erupted throughout the hall.

"My King, you have been bewitched!" Pell declared, and murmurs of agreement rippled through the crowd.

Vestor, who had remained silent until now, finally spoke. "My King, allow me to summon a beast shaman to dispel the spell. Then we can kick the witch from the kingdom."

Kael turned his gaze to him.

"How about I kick your head off first?"

Vestor went silent instantly, and most of the court folded at once.

Yes, they believed their king had been bewitched—but the moment his patience thinned, none dared argue further.

After all, Kael could slaughter them all in the blink of an eye. Dying at the hands of their own king was far from the heroic end all beastmen desired.

Still, one beastman refused to yield.

Garou rose to his feet while the rest remained kneeling.

"My King," he declared, "I, Garou of the Panther Tribe, refuse to be ruled by a king who is nothing more than a puppet for a witch!" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"Oh? So, you think that I am not strong enough to resist a mere witch’s spell?" Kael arched a brow, a predatory grin spreading across his face. His crimson eyes glinted with malice. "Then do you wish to challenge me?"

Garou’s breath caught.

Of course he didn’t.

He was strong—in fact, Garou one of the strongest warriors in the Beast Kingdom, second only to Pell and Mateo, the Rhino commander.

But he had nearly died the last time he faced the Beast King, and Kael didn’t even pay attention to him.

If he faced the Beast King again, then his head would surely roll.

Yet Garou clenched his fists and stood his ground, even if his legs were trembling.

"My King," he said hoarsely, "I may die. But if my death warns the others of how grave this matter is, then I am willing to give my life!"

"Fine," Kael said coldly. "Anyone who wishes to challenge my will may come to the training grounds. I’ll kill you one by one—or all at once."

The threat crushed the room.

No one except Garou dared lift their head.

"Hmph. At least you still understand the will of the beast," Kael continued. "I am not a blind idiot. I have my reasons for choosing her as my queen—and that decision is final."

Vestor felt as though icy water had been poured down his spine.

’This is my fault,’ he thought desperately. ’If only I had defused this... if only I hadn’t mentioned a shaman...’

"All of you may leave the throne room," Kael ordered. "Only Vestor will remain."

His gaze shifted to Garou.

"And you—wait for me at the training grounds. I’ll kill you in five seconds."

Garou was not afraid of death.

But the fact that his king didn’t even deem him worthy of a prolonged fight told him that Kael was truly angry at his defiance.

Two beastmen had to support Garou as he was escorted out, his legs barely holding him upright.

Once the throne room was empty, Vestor dropped to his knees.

"Are you satisfied with this outcome, Vestor?" Kael asked calmly.

His words cut like a blade lodged in the owl’s throat, leaving him unable to answer.

"You witnessed Sisi’s power firsthand," Kael continued. "Yet instead of seeking me out privately, you fanned the flames until Garou challenged my authority."

He leaned back against the throne.

"You failed with Ruela. And you failed again today."

"You are unfit to be called wise."
