Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Will of the Beast (I)

Kael held his son close as he stared toward the cave entrance.

His crimson eyes glinted with quiet possessiveness as a silent decision settled in his heart.

It didn’t matter if Sisi wanted to leave, he would find a way to make her stay.

It also didn’t matter if she wasn’t his fated mate either. He had severed that bond long ago, and for all he knew, his fated mate might already have built a family with another man. After all, no woman would wait for a cursed bastard like him, right?

Yes, Kael knew he was selfish.

But he had always been selfish and willful, just like how he took Jojo with him and hid his real name, so he would never know his true identity and curse until he was old enough to accept it.

If Sisi refused to comply, then he would devise a way to make her.

He was a king, after all. His will bent other beastmen, conquered tribes, make anyone who dare to challenge him submit to his power, and he had never wanted anything more than this.

To bind her to his side.

To bind her to Jojo as his mother.

Kael silently set up a mission: they had to become a family of three.

’For now, I’ll make sure the court understands her real position in the palace,’ Kael thought as he rose, lifting Jojo into his arms.

"Hold on tight, Jojo," he said calmly. "We’ll go down the summit faster than usual."

"Okay, Daddy!"

**

Sisi swung gracefully from one tree to another until the palace came into view.

Grishaw and Vestor were still standing at the foot of the summit, clearly waiting for the Beast King’s return.

"Mistress," Grishaw asked politely, "how is our King?"

"He’s fine," Sisi replied as she brushed fallen leaves from her clothes. "He’ll be down soon. You can wait here."

Vestor remained silent.

His gaze stayed fixed on her—sharp, guarded—as though any sudden movement from her might spell disaster for the kingdom, and he was ready to stop her no matter the cost.

But Sisi ignored him entirely, and turned toward the Queen’s courtyard.

She understood his suspicion well. Kael had warned her many times—witches were enemies of beastmen.

But she had already chosen to use her power openly so she could reach him at the summit. So, there was no point hiding now.

As for her fate?

That depended entirely on Kael.

If he wanted her gone, then so be it, she would leave happily, as she never belonged in this palace to begin with.

...And she would take Jojo with her, of course.

For now, all she could do was sip her tea and sew her dress and cloak in the Queen’s courtyard.

Grishaw and Vestor watched until her figure disappeared behind the courtyard gates.

Grishaw cleared his throat. "You shouldn’t show such scrutiny in front of her, Vestor. Mistress Sisi isn’t dangerous. If the King learns you’re treating her like an enemy, you’ll anger him. You’ve angered him once, I’m afraid I can’t guarantee your safety if you angered him twice."

Vestor nodded slowly.

"I know how to conduct myself," Then he added quietly, "But I remain wary. Mistress Sisi is clearly a powerful witch. She doesn’t need protection, and she doesn’t seem to be fond of jewelry and gold. So, why would someone like her bind herself to our King and Prince unless she has an ulterior motive?"

"Maybe she truly cares for the Prince," Grishaw said at last.

"Does a witch even have the capacity to love?" Vestor asked.

This time, Grishaw had no answer.

*

Just as Sisi had said, the Beast King descended the summit not long after, carrying the little prince in his arms.

Grishaw and Vestor immediately knelt.

"Grishaw," Kael ordered, setting Jojo down, "take my son to Sisi’s courtyard."

"Yes, My King."

"And Vestor," Kael continued, his tone measured, "follow me to the throne room. I have an announcement to make."

"...Yes, My King."

As Vestor followed, unease weighed heavily on his heart.

’It must be about Sisi,’ he thought grimly. ’Has she used her power on the King? What if a witch is quietly taking control of the kingdom?’

The worry gnawed at him as they entered the throne room.

Kael’s high-ranking subordinates were already present, kneeling in orderly rows.

As Kael seated himself upon the throne, Vestor stepped forward and announced in a clear, ringing voice,

"Hail to the Beast King! May he rule with greatness and wisdom!"

"HAIL TO THE BEAST KING! MAY HE RULE WITH GREATNESS AND WISDOM!"

Once, the proclamation had included May he rule forevermore.

Kael himself had ordered its removal.

He never intended to rule forever.

Everyone in the court knew Kael possessed greatness. His power rivaled that of a demigod.

But wisdom?

Kael had little patience for bureaucracy. Most affairs of governance were dumped squarely into Vestor’s hands.

Had this been a human kingdom, Kael would have been better suited as an invincible war god rather than a ruler.

But beastmen worshipped strength, and none but him could sit upon that throne with that strength alone.

Kael listened to the reports with half an ear, responding only when necessary. Matters that didn’t demand immediate action were handed off to his advisor.

His mind was elsewhere.

He was considering how best to announce Sisi’s position.

To the court, she was merely another woman who got into the palace with her beauty—no different from Ruela, a former concubine.

But Kael wanted more than that.

Kael listened to the last report about a spring festival since the spring would come in two days, Kael finally spoke.

"Before we end this morning court," he said evenly, "there is one matter I wish to address."

The hall fell into absolute silence.

All eyes were fixed upon him.

Some wondered if it concerned Ruela, now reduced to a lowly maid—though the matter had been sealed tightly within the palace, even her own family was left in the dark.

Others suspected it was about Sisi, the devastatingly gorgeous woman staying in the Queen’s courtyard. Perhaps the King intended to elevate her as a new concubine.

After all, she was beautiful, and the Prince adored her.

But Kael’s next words shattered every expectation they held.
