Chapter 200: First Battle For Fate’s Favor (6)

He resented Kana at first. Kamille was young, and he needed someone to blame. And as days passed, he began to realize that even if Kana told him, everything would still happen.

Kamille’s knees weakened, and his body collapsed to the ground.

Right, he resented Kana... but he never hated her. In his heart, Kana was still the closest to him, his only family.

Now, she was gone, and he witnessed her terrible death.

Kamille was momentarily dazed for a while, but he quickly snapped out of it. Kana’s words echoed in his ears; her desire for him to escape made Kamille unable to fully mourn her death. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

He needed to escape and live.

When his eyes roamed around, he immediately saw a backpack prepared for him and the notebook beside it. The note above it neatly shows the instructions on how to use the glowing device right in front of Kamille.

He did not know what it was, but he only knew that it was Kana’s way for him to escape.

With his trembling hands, Kamille followed the instructions on how to activate the device. He was running for time, the disturbance outside were intensenfying.

Sooner or later, there would also be people coming for him.

Licking his parched lips, Kamille watched the device glowed but it was not instant. His senses told him he needed a minute before it would be fully activated.

A minute... Sweat dripped down his cheeks. Kamille began to be anxious. That was still a lot of time considering his situation.

Suddenly, Kamille snapped to the side, his senses tingled, and his whole body instinctively took cover under the table. However, that was not enough.

Soon, a massive explosion rang, and Kamille’s body tumbled backward, hugging the backpack on his chest. For a while, he could not hear anything but a deafening riging on his ears.

When he opened his eyes, Kamille’s blurred vision had a tinge of red. Blood entered his eyes, and his injuries were not light. Crarwling, Kamille, check the condition of the device first.

Only to see it shattered into pieces.

Kamille’s expression sank; his trembling hands reached out for it, cupping most of the remnants of the device in his hands.

It was not only a device but Kana’s sacrifice for him. Kana, who was barely recognizable after her body exploded.

That hope... that smile...

Kamille stared blankly at the device as though he was seeing Kana herself and the devastating result of her sacrifice. His eyes stared at them for a long, long time; he barely remembered what it was for.

Huh?

He did not know where the fury in his heart came from. Kamille could see red; his whole vision became blurred because of it.

The corner of his eyes moistened, and he only realized he was also crying. His hands grasped the shattered pieces in his hand tightly, even as they tore the skin of his palm.

He barely felt any pain from any of his wounds, and another one would not matter. Kamille only felt one thing at this point.

A burning sensation that came from the deepest of his soul, the rising fury that he had never experienced before, dominated his being.

Something was awakening inside of him... and Kamille did not want to suppress it.

Another explosion occurred, and Kamille’s young body was thrown backwards before he fell on the floor. The ceiling was destroyed, falling where he was.

Kamille did not stop it, and it quickly fell where his body was.

The whole place was burning and being destroyed. It was as though the organization had decided to destroy itself. Everything happened too fast; even the higher-ups themselves were confused.

The whole base was in disarray, and Kamille’s situation was easily forgotten. Everyone was trying to survive the sudden onslaught that came from above.

New rounds of explosions resounded, and the apocalypse seemed upon them. And yet no one knew, it was only the beginning.

A heartbeat could be heard. It was a strange sound that came from inside their hearts and not through their ears. Around the center where the explosion started, dark smoke suddenly rose and engulfed the place in one gulp.

The people around evaporated as smoke passed through them. Seeing this, the other was quickly alarmed and escaped. One particular Esper was looking at the smoke in distress.

"What have you done?" He spoke in a trembling voice. "What have you awakened?" He shouted in the end, and before he could leave, his throat was grabbed.

His pupils shook and flailed around, to no avail.

"You..."

He could not finish before his body was engulfed in a black fire that was ignited from the black smoke. His agonizing screams resounded throughout the whole place until it was silent.

Not even his bones were left.

Some witnessed this, and their knees buckled, looking horrified at the person who did this. Two crimson pupils flickered in the dark and then turned to them.

With a frightened expression, they quickly used their means to escape.

The owner of those crimson pupils merely glanced at them and did not bother. His whole attention was on another; the burning fury inside of him could only be satisfied once he killed them.

The dark smoke intensified and turned to a black fire; they coiled around his figure as he slowly floated towards where the object of this unfamiliar fury was located.

Their locations sparkled through his vision; nothing inside the burning building escaped his eyes. His body moved forward, riding the black fire effortlessly.

"You are..." An old man looked at the newcomer, wearing huge glasses. "...that Kamille."

Although he stumbled in his words, he still stood straight, and his overall demeanor did not change even after seeing everyone in his entourage was burned to death upon Kamille’s arrival.

Kamille’s emotionless gaze turned to him. His crimson pupils flickered, and the fire rose from around the room, ready to engulf the old man, but he suddenly paused.

His eyes tilted to the side, seemingly confused.

The old man suddenly laughed maniaccally then kneeled and spread his arms wide. "I didn’t fail," he laughed enthusiastically, looking at Kamille with such fervor.

His saliva dripped down the corners of his mouth, but he did not even bother to wipe them off, only staring at Kamille with a disgusting grin.

"Welcome to our world... the great noble beyond the gate." The old man laughed, "Do you like my devotion and sacrifice? Everyone here is a tribute to your awakening, my great lord. I am thrilled to sacrifice even my lowly self."

His eyes were filled with madness as if he had been possessed.

Kamille could not understand him. He was incapable of thinking about anything. He only needed one thing: to kill him.

Or maybe... that was not enough. Kamille slowly stood on the ground, and the fire parted as he walked towards the old man. The old man did not move, although his death was imminent.

Instead, he began to become more enthusiastic and bowed with a thud, his forehead hitting the ground countless times. Even when his blood flowed uncontrollably to his face, he did not stop.

Kamille looked down at him. The fury inside his chest was annoying, but his mind became interested in another. Everything else was forgotten, even the reason why he was mad.

"You... tell me," Kamille’s voice was deeper than usual, even had a hint of maturity within.

"Yes, My lord. I will even give you my life if you want to."

Kamille’s lips pressed into a thin line, seemingly displeased. "I don’t need your disgusting life." His lips twitched, and his eyes narrowed into a slit. "Tell me... who am I?"

Kamille became confused. All of a sudden, his head throbbed, and he almost stumbled, but the fire quickly supported him. he could not understand.

What was his name? Why was she here? What was the reason...

Suddenly, his eyes fell on his hand where the pieces of the glowing device were still embedded on his palm. He stared at it for a few seconds.

Kamille’s expression twitched, and he closed his eyes. The memories flashed quickly inside his mind as the old man’s answer reached his ears.

"My Lord, Your Highness the Grand Duke."

Kamille’s eyes snapped open, his whole body trembled, and he stepped backwards. Looking at the old man, calling him a Grand Duke.

He did not know what that was, and his mind was rejecting the idea.

This old man... I don’t like him.

With his mind, the old man was finally consumed by the fire. Unlike the others who were screaming, the old man merely laughed and accepted the fire with his whole heart.

Soon, his laughter ceased, and his existence was erased.

Only Kamille stood amidst the ruins.

His head throbbing, and the desire to destroy overwhelmed his heart.

"Badump... badump..." Kamille’s heart thumped painfully. He clutched his chest and knelt on the ground until he collapsed and curled up.

His mouth opened, gasping for air. His pupils were flickering, and his whole body was glitching as though something within him had triggered some kind of error.

’Right. I sealed him here.’

Unbeknownst to the young Kamille, someone was watching him. His figure was shrouded by darkness, but it could still be discerned.

It was Kamille.
