In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL]-Chapter 201: First Battle For Fate’s Favor (7)
Kamille sealed the real him and the memories of this night deep within his subconscious. Slowly, cracks appeared in the memory until Kamille found himself standing alone in a somewhat familiar place.
Blood red dominated his vision, and as he looked at his feet, there was blood everywhere. Lifting his head, his eyes met a familiar face.
It was himself.
Beside himself, someone suddenly appeared sitting on a throne made entirely of black fire. He was staring down at Kamille, smirking.
Two Kamilles stared at each other for a few moments before the Kamille sitting on the throne shattered the silence with a taunting remark.
"Since you’re here... You’re finally tired of being weak, huh?" If Rise were here, he would quickly think of Kamille’s extreme side.
And it was right.
Kamille did not immediately answer and stared at himself. Although the same person, their personalities are somehow different.
He knew why that was the case. His current self was his ’humanity’ while the other embodied his ’noble’ self. Although they were one person, they had been split for so many years, and clashing was inevitable.
The part he sealed so many years ago and always been suppressing until this day.
Kamille nodded after a while.
"You’re right. I’m weak." He admitted.
The memories of the injuries he inflicted on Rise flashed across his mind. Kamille’s expression twisted, and so did his other self.
Noble Kamille narrowed his eyes, disdain reflected in those dark crimson pupils.
"That’s your fault for being stubborn. You failed to protect him, and you lose... pathetically." He taunted, and Kamille was not offended.
"It’s indeed my fault." Again, he accepted the insult. "I lost. I died."
Kamille was not unaware of his death. The voices he heard still lingered in his ears, and the way he was being tormented by their effect led to his death.
Noble Kamille shrugged and tilted his head, chuckling. He appeared to have found it amusing that Kamille was dead.
"You have to die. So, I can take over." He grinned at that; excitement glinted in his eyes.
"Probably, you’re right." Kamille did not seem to mind, but then he smiled. Almost the same as the Noble Kamille’s. "Perhaps, also not."
Noble Kamille’s grin faded slightly, then he rolled his eyes.
"You’re always annoying."
"Mhm." Kamille once more accepted it. It wiped off the grin completely from the other’s lips.
"What now?" Noble Kamille dropped the friendly guise.
Kamille met his eyes with a solemn expression. "I need power. To do that, I need to become whole." He pointed at the Noble Kamille. "I need you."
Noble Kamille’s brow shot up. "Heh? Who told you I’ll cooperate with you?"
Kamille simply shrugged, not looking worried in the slightest.
He began walking towards the other and stopped a few steps away. Noble Kamille did not stop him and only watched. Or probably because he would not be able to do anything in the first place.
And both knew that, and so Kamille was not worried. His other self would not be able to get away or escape. Although the other did not seem to have any intention to do that.
"I’ve lived as a human esper for 24 years." Kamille suddenly started talking about something else instead of answering the other’s question.
He paused and thought about something before he continued. "Or countless years from countless times."
Kamille had acknowledged the time of resets. Ignoring the exact time, he began talking again. "I killed a lot of monsters and faced nobles. Then I suddenly found out that I am also one of them. Quite laughable if you think about it."
Now he was rambling, and Noble Kamille intently listened. He did not look annoyed or agree with Kamille.
"But nothing of that matters." Kamille’s crimson pupils shrank, dand angerous mana surfaced and surrounded him. "What am I, or who am I. Those were simply identities bestowed by fate. And fate... is not on my side."
Kamille’s mana continued to spread and intensified, and the blood on the ground boiled as blood red smoke began rising and permeating the air.
Noble Kamille only stared and listened.
"Try to stop me from devouring you."
Kamille stared at Noble Kamille, without radiating malice on his own, but the mana around and the phenomena he caused were enough to know he was serious.
Looking at him, Noble Kamille suddenly laughed, and his body eased. There was an obvious glint of interest in those eyes. There was no anger or resentment, only amusement.
"Why would I? I’m a part of you. I’m only testing you if you still don’t know yourself."
From the start, it was always this way. Kamille could devour the ’noble’ side of him to become whole, but noble Kamille would not be able to do that.
As Kamille was the ’real’ one. He only joked at Rise when he claimed he was the real one. Although there were some truths in there.
Rise would need to discover it himself.
"But are you ready to accept me? To become... a noble you hate?"
This did not stop Noble Kamille from continuing to provoke Kamille. He was one not be serious over something. Although his end was technically near, he did not pay it any mind.
He would only merge with Kamille to complete him and not really ’die’.
"I never hate nobles," Kamille answered honestly. ’I don’t think I ever hated anyone before."
He never hated nobles; fighting them was mainly because that was his job as an esper of humanity. Kamille’s loyalty never lies to the humans, and his ’humanity’ influenced him over the years.
Even the organization that made him a weapon to fight monsters was not worthy for him to feel hatred.
Kamille never had a purpose besides fighting; that was one thing he could do since he was forcefully awakened at the age of 9.
He had not even fulfilled his dreams as Kana wished before her death. Kamille had outgrown the childish dream he had.
And suddenly, someone arrived to change the trajectory of his life. He made his life interesting, and made him look forward to the future he would spend together with him.
Yet... someone blocked that future. A seemingly invincible mountain was pressing down on them, and they held their fate.
"Now I do." Kamille’s hands clenched into a fist, and veins bulged on his trembling arms. Intense hatred dominated his whole being. For the first time in Kamille’s life, he made someone his purpose.
"I’ll kill them."
To stop this never-ending cycle, and give Rise a future. Even if it destroyed him. This time, he would not fail.
His intense emotions also made their way to the other self. Noble Kamille’s expression sank, and he intently stared at Kamille.
"Do it." He said, urging. "Fate or anyone, fuck them all up."
For the first time, Kamille smiled genuinely in front of his other self. "I hope I didn’t get your personality." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Noble Kamille laughed at that. "Impossible. You’ll change."
Kamille had to agree. "Hopefully, not much."
Noble Kamille smiled and did not respond to such wishful thinking. Kamille was supposed to be a noble and inherently disdained humans.
That was on his blood. However, he suppressed them and only let out his ’humanity’. Now that he was becoming whole, his noble self would inevitably show itself even if he did not want to.
The blood boiled even more fiercely, and the whole place became enveloped by fog. This was Kamille’s subconscious, and it now started to merge with his noble self.
The merging could not be said to be slow, but not fast either. It did not create an intense effect either. Noble Kamille disappeared where he was sitting until it was only Kamille standing in that chaotic space.
He looked peaceful as he closed his eyes. The process of being whole was not supposed to be painful, and instead, there was a kind of refreshing and comfortable sensation that spread to Kamille’s whole being.
Outside of his subconscious, Kamille’s body suddenly moved. His heart, which stopped for a minute, began beating again. Right, only a minute had passed.
Kamille only died for a minute.
His blood around him also moved, and as though they were summoned, immediately merged to his body again until all that remained were their traces.
"Badump... Badump..."
A loud heartbeat resounded, like what happened years ago. The awakening of a terrifying being sent shivers down everyone’s spine.
This heartbeat could also be heard by the whole world, no matter where they were. And one particular person had the biggest reaction and was also privy to what it was.
"Huh?" his head snapped to the side, pupils shrank, and a bad premonition suddenly dawned on him. "What happened?" He mumbled, and the youth stood and walked towards the hole that was created in the ground.
In his hand, he was gripping a clump of silver hair. Looking closely, the youth was dragging Rise’s unconscious and injured body by his hair.
Rise’s blood soiled the ground, creating a trace.
Just as he paused and tried to look underground, a huge mana concentration erupted.
"This?" His pupils trembled, and his whole being shouted for him to kneel.
How come there’s a high-ranking noble here besides himself? And a higher rank than him?
