Chapter 190: Realization (1)

Unbeknownst to Rise, taking Riri early on ruined his act in front of Kamille. If he knew, Rise would only find this a surprise and celebrate by kissing Riri’s cheeks so hard and call him his good luck charm.

At this point, he still did not know, so he would not be able to do that yet.

The preparation for the gate was still ongoing. Rise had already scrapped his plans about using his father’s power to make Kamille accompany him inside, as the other had already requested it.

"Remember what we agreed on?" Rise hugged Riri and asked, looking the little one in the eye. "Don’t use your ability arbitrarily."

Seeing him nod obediently, Rise sighed in relief. He was aware that Riri seemed to have this assumption that by using his ability, he could help in his own way. And it was true; however, there were hidden risks about this.

Most especially that he would not be there with Riri during this time. He trusted his father, but he would only be at ease if issues arose when he was around or, hopefully, Kamille was there with them.

Riri’s ability to glimpse through destiny was overpowered; the less he used it, the better. Preferably, only when Riri himself mastered it.

Rise took advantage of his leisure time before the appointed time to give orders through both forces he acquired. Currently, he has a growing information network on the dark and the men previously entrusted to him by his father.

Both had different focuses and, as much as possible, would never work together. In terms of scale, Rise preferred to give most orders through Dino and the gang as they would complete his tasks without leaks and without questions.

After a short goodbye to his father, as there were not needed for words within them. Their relationship was slowly getting better, and that was enough.

"You sure, you’re not going with us?" Captain Nikolai asked when they saw each other going to the venue.

Most of the espers around were wearing their combat suits; Rise was no exception. Wearing the standard all black Esper uniform of the Union. But there was a cloak draped around his shoulders, with the hood concealing his silver hair.

As a result, he stood out a bit but only for a moment, since no one cares about each other’s outfits. In fact, it helped him from attracting attention by seeing his face, a very famous face.

Rise looked around while answering.

"I’m not. I’ll accompany someone." His lack of concern was obvious, and so after exchanging glances, the three did not insist.

Although it was a big regret since having Rise on the team was a huge boost to the overall combat ability and survivability.

"Then, we’ll go ahead." After patting his shoulders, the three left Rise and went to their team.

There was no time limit, and each guilds were only given the instructions of the time window they could start mobilizing their teams to enter the gate. And so, each did not need to actually wait for the latecomers and could directly head inside.

Rise stood conspicuously at the gathering venue where a gate was located, his eyes wandering around. For some reason, his guild leader seemed to enjoy making him wait.

If only he could just visit Kamille’s place unannounced.

Soon, Kamille was nowhere to be seen, but a group caught his attention. It was the Evergreen Guild with Thalia at the forefront. When they got closer to where he was, Thalia immediately noticed him and paused.

"Oh... Rise!" Thalia smiled and waved to greet him enthusiastically. The other women behind her exchanged glances as though ready to pull out their guild leader once she started to act strangely.

Come to think of it, Rise also had something to give her. What happened last time still lingers in his mind, and he needed to prevent it before that.

"Guild Leader Thalia," he nodded and walked closer to her, until his mouth reached where her ear was, and whispered. "I have something to give you."

Thalia’s eyes widened, and she almost stepped back, but her face was like a tomato now with how red it was. Her pupils shoo,k and imaginary smoke seemed to blow out of her head.

"Y-Yeah?" Her voice broke, which made Rise laugh.

It made him more determined that unless it was Thalia herself who remembered her past and decided to get involved, Rise would not let her take part in his plans.

An item appeared in his hand, then gave it to her, who blankly received it.

"It’s an item you can activate when you’re in a life and death situation. So make sure to remember, alright?" His majestic voice almost made Thalia pass out, who could only nod and be supported by her guildmates as they walked to the gate after bidding a short farewell. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Well, it seemed Thalia would recover inside the gate then. He already thought that the airhead would treasure it instead of using it, so he placed an automatic activation in it, once the item sensed a mana level reaching a threatening mark.

Rise watched until the group was finally engulfed by the gate. He could only hope that Thalia would not encounter that bastard this time around.

While lost in thought, he suddenly sensed an intense gaze directed at him. Rise found it familiar, and his head immediately turned in its direction and soon enough met the owner of the gaze.

Kamille...

Without him knowing, the other arrived and was watching him. And it appeared, he was already present when Rise talked and gave an item to Thalia.

For some reason, Rise swallowed, feeling nervous all of a sudden.

Wait... Rise cocked his head, confused. Huh? His intuition told him he was missing something really important! In fact, it was almost at the tip of his tongue, but he could not figure it out yet, especially when Kamille was already coming to him.

He could only watch as Kamille walked closer to him with an indifferent expression.

Rise was about to say something, but Kamille beat him to it.

"You cared for her a lot." His eyes narrowed, "Casually gifting a rare item."

Rise frowned and looked at him, trying to decipher what he wanted to say. Yet, Kamille only gave an indifferent glance before walking towards the gate.

Dumbfounded, Rise hurriedly followed.

"Wait!" Rise did not think much about it and grabbed Kamille’s arm and held on to it. "Are you still mad because of what happened?"

Out of habit, Rise hooked his arms around Kamille’s arm, and did not notice how the other glanced deeply at it before returning his gaze to Rise’s face.

"I already apologized."

Kamille averted his gaze, but the darkness that loomed in his face lessened significantly.

"You haven’t."

"Huh?" He had yet to apologize? Rise did not understand.

However, he could not ponder deeply about it as they had already entered the gate.
