Chapter 430: Chapter 429: The Girl from Six Years Ago (33)

By then, Vera Wave had turned around. Seeing him, she hastily stood up.

"Mr. CEO."

At the company, she always addressed him as Mr. CEO, hoping to maintain a clear distinction between work and personal matters.

Kris Cooper came over, placed his hand on her shoulder, and squinted at his mother. "Why wasn’t I told that CEO Hansen was visiting the company?"

That darn kid! He doesn’t bring anyone home, and now he won’t even let me come over and see?

Bailey Hansen shrugged. "The company isn’t your private domain. Can’t I come?"

"Of course, you can, but isn’t your visit a bit sudden?"

"I was just passing by. Can’t I come up and have a look?"

"May I ask where CEO Hansen was coming from and where you were heading?"

Bailey Hansen languidly crossed her legs. "I wanted to have coffee at a cafe near Ashton Building, and I just happened to be passing the main entrance."

Kris Cooper rolled his eyes. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Alright, there’s really no reasoning with women!

Kate Palmer, who knew the inside story, merely chuckled quietly.

Watching the mother and son bicker, Vera was momentarily stunned. Hearing Kris grow increasingly snarky, she lightly tugged at his sleeve.

"Please don’t say that. Since CEO Hansen is part of the company’s management, it’s perfectly normal for her to visit!"

Honestly, this guy! Even if he’s the CEO, he can’t treat management with this kind of attitude, can he?

"Look at Vera, then look at yourself!" Bailey Hansen rolled her eyes at her son, put down the juice cup in her hand, and stood up. "Vera, I’m very interested in your proposal. Let’s have lunch together and discuss it properly, okay?"

"She’s not available!" Kris Cooper immediately rejected.

"I wasn’t talking to you!" Bailey Hansen just smiled at Vera. "Is that okay?"

Kris Cooper spoke again, "Not okay!"

"Kris!" Vera tugged at his clothes again, smiled apologetically at Bailey Hansen, and tried to smooth things over. "CEO Hansen, I actually have something on at noon today. How about I treat you next time, if that’s alright?"

Bailey Hansen nodded. "Then let’s make it tonight. Royal Dining Room. Be there or be square."

"Okay." Before Kris Cooper could speak, Vera had already agreed. "Then, I’ll see you tonight."

Bailey Hansen patted her shoulder and then glanced sidelong at Kris Cooper. "I’ll have the driver pick you up when you finish work tonight. Be there or be square."

After saying that, she shot Kris Cooper another eye-roll and strode towards the door.

"Kate, I’m leaving!"

"Okay!"

Kate Palmer busied herself with seeing her out, and Vera, tugging Kris Cooper’s arm, followed them to the corridor.

"Take care, CEO Hansen!"

"Okay!"

Bailey Hansen waved goodbye to Vera, then slipped her hands into her jeans pockets and, accompanied by Kate Palmer, headed towards the elevator.

Vera raised her left hand to wave at her, then turned her head to give Kris Cooper a reprimanding look.

"What are you doing? She invited me so sincerely. Your attitude is really hurtful, you know?"

Kris Cooper looked at the girl before him, a wry smile playing on his lips. He was trying to protect her, wasn’t he?

"Are you really going?"

"I’ve already promised her. Besides, it’s just one meal; it’s not like I’ll lose a piece of myself. Anyway, I’m your fiancée, right? If I go back on my word, wouldn’t that make you lose face?" Vera tilted her head up and winked at him. "But, you’ll have to reimburse me later, okay!"

Of course, that last part was a joke. She could still afford the prices at the Royal Dining Room.

Gazing at the girl’s sparkling eyes, Kris Cooper raised his right hand and gently grazed her cheek with the back of his fingers.
