Chapter 131: Where does mummy want to go?

Javen nodded his head but suddenly caught sight of the bouquet.

"So, it’s true." He said.

"What is?" Alexa asked in return and he pointed at the bouquet in the vase. "Oh, that." She chuckled. "News surely flies fast."

"Why did you accept it?" He asked her.

"Why? Isn’t it pretty? Besides, I’m not really obligated to reject gifts like this from students. If I hadn’t accepted it, that boy could probably get mocked for the rest of his school days and this pretty thing would end up in the trash. I have no reason to reject gifts from anyone." She said and something hurt Javen deep in his heart.

"Is that so?" He asked while trying to hide the hurt he felt.

She had told him countless times that she would never treat him differently just because he had feelings for her. His gifts, she would accept them if she wanted but that did not change anything. But seeing her accept other guys’ gifts in that same nonchalant behavior hurt him.

He really couldn’t win her heart, huh?

"That’s good." He said and turned his back. "Anyway, I have a class soon so have fun with Rachael." He made his way out.

Alexa knew he got hurt but it couldn’t be helped. He was bound to get hurt one of these days. The best way was for him to accept her rejection and move on but he was being stubborn.

"What a headache." She exclaimed and picked up her things.

Luckily, this day had no problems and Stacy left with a happy heart.

"Hey, my little cinnamon pie." Alexa called, actively fondling her cheeks. "Do you want to go out with mummy?"

"Whach abouch work?" Rachael managed to say over her squeezed cheeks and Alexa laughed.

"It’s alright. Mummy is free for the rest of the day." She said, "So, where do you want to go?" 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

"Where does mummy want to go?" Rachael asked, rubbing her finally free cheeks and Alexa paused. This stubborn daughter of hers.

"How about this? You’ll call a place you want to go and then I’ll call a place I want to go to. How’s that?" She suggested and Rachael nodded. "So, you go first. Where do you want to go? Let’s have fun together."

"I..." she twiddled her thumbs. "Well, I..."

"Go on." Alexa eagerly urged her daughter on with twinkling eyes and this made Rachael shy so she blushed and looked away.

"I... I want to visit the aquarium and see the fishes." She managed to say and shut her eyes, hoping that that wasn’t too much to ask but then peeped to see her mother smiling in delight.

"What a coincidence. I also wanted to visit the aquarium." She said and laughed. "I also want to eat sweet cake so why don’t we stop by a dessert shop, eat your favorite strawberry cake and then the aquarium. Or we could visit the aquarium first. In any case, we’ll do both." She laughed in delight, carried her and swirled around.

Rachael felt happy. Her mummy was happy so she too was happy. As long as she wasn’t a burden then she would do whatever with her mummy.

Unfortunately, that evening, Serena returned and like always, she took charge and instead of going to the aquarium, they went to get expensive clothes and a fancy dinner afterwards.

Alexa felt guilty for raising her daughter’s hopes only to dash them like this but she looked and saw that she was unaffected.

"Rachael." She called, squeezing her hand lightly and Rachael raised her head. "You okay, sweetie?"

Serena watched them and kept her eyes on Rachael, wondering if she was being a burden again. Rachael met eyes with Serena and was immediately reminded not to burden her mother.

"I’m alright, mummy." She said and smiled. "There’s always a next time."

Serene shut her eyes in satisfaction and ate her meal.

"Alexa, don’t get distracted." She said and Alexa turned to her. What sort of distraction was she talking about?

"I’m not getting distracted by anything." She simply said and continued eating her food. "The only things I can consider as distractions are those things that are hindering me from spending time with my daughter." She stated and Serena paused.

Alexa, a masterpiece of hers, couldn’t cower to anyone and definitely not to her but she was sure she had been acting the kind sister well enough for her to never go against her so what was changing?

Her eyes fell on little Rachael. Did she say something about that day to her? But it had almost been a year since then. She wouldn’t suddenly spill that out.

And if Alexa found out she said that to her daughter, she wouldn’t be this calm so that wasn’t it.

"Did anything happen recently?" She asked and to which Alexa shook her head and said,

"Nothing out of the usual." She turned to Rachael’s plate, cut the piece of meat left in her plate into little pieces for her and smiled. "There. Now you won’t have problems cutting them." She stroked Rachael’s hair.

"You shouldn’t spoil her like that." Serena suddenly said and Alexa turned to her with a frown.

"Excuse me? What’s that supposed to mean?" She asked, clearly displeased by her words.

Serena frowned. This was the first time Alexa was looking at her with such displeased eyes and this reminded her of the girl she used to be. The girl who hated and feared her.

"I said you shouldn’t spoil her by doing everything for her. She’ll only become lazy." she said in her defense but that only made Alexa mad.

"Everything? How many things do I do for MY daughter that you say I do everything for her? I don’t even spend enough time with her. She takes care of herself like she doesn’t need me and says she’s fine. She’s a child and she says things like ’you shouldn’t cry alone’." Angry, she got up and slammed her hands on the table, earning unnecessary attention towards herself. "MY daughter looks at me with eyes that have no trace of innocence and yet you tell me she’ll become lazy? Serena,’’ her hands clenched into fists on the table and they trembled, along with the rest of her body. "You... What did you say to my daughter?"
