Chapter 111: Merry Christmas

Ariel stared at Serena whose eyes were directly fixed on her. She wasn’t even trying to hide the fact that she was completely interested in Ariel.

"I’ve been well." Ariel answered. "Merry Christmas." 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Serena didn’t expect it. She had heard so many Christmas wishes that she got tired of hearing it but hearing it from Ariel, it felt sweet. This girl... she liked her. She wanted to keep her to herself. She wanted to share her with no one.

Her eyes fell on Ariel’s ruby ring and her delighted expression slowly faded.

"What do you want from us?" Raymond asked her.

"A lot of things." Serena said and chuckled. "I’m joking. I’m just glad that you’re finally happy." She said and smiled.

For some reason, her smile sent chills down Ariel’s spine. She had a really bad feeling about Serena and her grip on Raymond’s arm tightened.

Raymond noticed she was feeling uncomfortable and decided to move on from there.

"We need to leave now." Raymond bluntly said and Serena’s smile fell.

"Right now?"

"Yes, we made prior arrangements. We’ll just see a few people and then we’ll leave." Raymond answered and they started walking away.

"I meant it." Serena suddenly said and they both paused in their tracks. "I hope you live a really happy life from here onwards." She smiled and something about her smile spelt danger so they made their way out of there.

Raymond kept Ariel by his side as he talked to the important persons that attended. That was honestly the only reason why he attended the Christmas gathering.

After talking a bit, he would look down at Ariel to make sure she was okay. He would smile at her and then continue talking.

So many people teased him that he loved his fiance too much and he proudly admitted that fact with a smile.

Ariel felt so loved and special. Standing beside Raymond with an actual and real identity gave her purpose and meaning and she felt complete.

The twins were not at the event and Ariel breathed out in relief.

Getting back to the car, she took out the gun that was strapped to her thigh and smiled awkwardly.

"Didn’t need this after all." She said and Raymond kissed the corner of her eye.

"It’s a relief." He said and smiled at her.

They made their way back to the house and there, just like Ariel wanted, they wore casual clothes, sat in Raymond’s room with the lights off and turned on the TV. They left the curtains opened so that if it snowed, they would know.

"Is this okay?" Raymond asked as he showed her the collection of romantic films he bought after looking up the internet.

"Not bad, Mr Stein. You came prepared." Ariel said with an impressed look and he kissed her forehead.

"Of course, Mrs Stein. I have to make sure to impress you." He said and she laughed.

Raymond took his position beside her and she snuggled in his arms. He put on the TV and silently, they watched the movies.

They ate cake, drank wine and smiled at each other every chance they got. They talked about the movie too. It was quite interesting.

Then all of a sudden, it started snowing. From the window, she could see the snow slowly falling down slowly and she smiled warmly.

"Hey, Ray?" She called.

"Yes, honey?" He answered and her eyes widened. Though she liked it when he called her by her name, it felt even more nice hearing him call her something so sweet and intimate. Guess that was how he felt when he made her call his name over and over.

She smiled.

"Merry Christmas." She said and he paused, looked down at her and realized he hadn’t wished her because of how hectic things had been.

But she didn’t look offended so he quickly returned it.

"Merry Christmas." He kissed the top of her head. "And happy birthday."

"What?" Ariel got out of his arms in shock. "My birthday? How? When?"

Raymond laughed and hugged her, placing her back in the warmth of his arms.

"It’s today, dummy. I figured you’d forget. You never talked about it." He said. "I looked it up a while ago and that’s why I wanted to do something special for you. You turned twenty one today. Happy birthday."

Ariel’s eyes watered. Even when she forgot that, he remembered it so well. But she never held her birthday in high regard. No one had ever wished her a happy birthday. Not even Marco. She didn’t know if it was because she forgot about it entirely and didn’t care about it but she never felt affected.

Her birth and life had no meaning for so long so she didn’t care. What was the use of celebrating the day she was brought into this world to suffer? The birth of a nuisance could never be considered as good.

But for Raymond... Her existence and her birth probably brought light into his life so he was more than happy to wish her a happy birthday with a bright smile, warm eyes and a warm embrace.

She loved this man. She loved him so much and she was just realizing it. But she was relieved. She didn’t realize it until too late. She realized it at the right time and they could do so much together.

A life spent together, she would never regret it for the rest of her life. She would always be happy.

"You don’t need to cry. I get that you’re touched but if you cry every time I tell you something nice or do something good then you’re definitely going to run out of..."

"I love you, Raymond." She suddenly confessed, interrupting his words and his eyes widened.

"What?" He held her face up to see her completely tear-drenched face. "What did you say?"

"I love you, Raymond. I really love you and thank you." She said, her tears still flowing down heavily and Raymond hugged her.

He hugged her tightly with his own eyes turning watery.

"Thank you." He said. "Thank you, Ariel. Thank you for loving someone like me. Thank you."

Ariel’s tears kept flowing and she cried out more. This was probably the happiest day of her life and she would not forget it.

The Christmas she would never forget as well as the only birthday where she got a proper wish. A proper smile.

’Thank you.’ Her thoughts rang and she slowly slept off in his arms.
